Sadly, Katie, I think your comments are absolutely correct. I have lived in the UK for 65 years. It is very common that when I meet someone new, they ask me about my origins to start a conversation. I have no problem giving them a potted history. Then we can proceed with a normal conversation. The alternative is to have a content free conversation restricted to the day's weather. How did we get to the point, that an 83 year old woman of hitherto sound character gets irretrievably cancelled, because she tried to start a casual conversation with another woman by simply asking where they came from? People in responsible positions who forced the woman to be cancelled, might believe they have acted on the side of minorities, but in fact they have fuelled racial tension, and I hope they will reflect on their hysterical illogical behavior.

It seems to me the charity worker, dressed in "African" clothing and sporting an "African" name, who changed her name from Marlene Headly (born in Willesden, North London) to Ngozi Foulani, appearing to hail from somewhere in Africa, didn't want to give accurate information about her heritage because her family is from Barbados, West Indies and not born in Africa. This revelation makes her look rather fake and contrived which is why she avoided providing a straight answer and "feels" traumatised. She has been outed, thanks to Lady S. Reminds me of the white American woman, of European heritage, pretending to be black. When asked about her heritage, she is very evasive too.

This “victim” has demonstrated a complete lack of class or decorum in going public with this story. If a woman wearing African costume and African hair approaches us with an African name badge, it's legitimate to ask where she comes from. That would then be the opportunity for a bit of a laugh when the person replies, oh, Slough, but I like to dress and present myself as an African and to identify as being of African descent. They are not oversensitive. They are malicious. An excellent example of how it can be as sinful to take offence as it is to give offence. The malice of scanning an interaction for the tiniest offence on which they can pounce. The late queen's husband was known for his regular gaffes. And the royal family took it in their stride. But now they've allowed Meghan into their family that acts out melodrama after melodrama, which no person of colour can take seriously in someone living in a mansion. The British Royal family brought this trouble upon themselves to let Meghan into their family. The queen's uncle was told to choose between being king or his American divorcee. The queen's sister was told to choose between life as a princess and a divorcee. The king made the right choice and left and kept his mouth shut. The sister made the wrong choice and then spent the rest of her life bemoaning her fate and drinking.

She was dressed in a culturally specific way, she went in miked up and ready to rumble, and she picked an 83 year old to bring down.

There is a time in your life when career is important and you have to go along and say the right things in the right way or you end up without a job/career unable to feed yourself. However, when you've worked hard all your life, lived frugally and saved and no longer need to lick corporate boots, you have earned one small privilege and that is to speak freely, knowing that being a fraud is the higher price to pay.

My aunt who is 86 and now has dementia, says things that even make me cringe no matter who you are and this was before she got dementia. There is a rare thing called humility and understanding, if you are communicating with an elderly person sometimes you have to put your ego to one side smile, and listen to them. It's the individual's choice to allow any comments that that elderly person may say to have an effect on you, but if you feel that you have the right to ridicule an elderly lady because of the questions she asks this shows you who that person really is.
