Truth. I feel into that trap of "squats and deadlifts make your waist bigger". I wasn't seeing much results, obviously. I was watching Omar Isuf videos and he interviewed Brad Schoenfeld. I started his Max Muscle Plan. The first two months have no direct ab training whatsoever with the exception of planks during the deload weeks. In 5 weeks my waist had gone down 1.5 inches (from 33 inches down to 31.4 - 31.6 inches), despite not changing my diet at all. I drink sweet teas (I'm a Southern boy), eat fried food, etc. The only thing that changed was my training, which placed emphasis on progressively heavier compound movements.
Not really a caloric deficit. You cannot really measure the calories you consume. Additionally CICO (Calories In, Calories Out) affects you merely indirectly. It's way more important to avoid crappy carbohydrates. Starch is the best carbohydrate to build muscle and satisfy your hunger without filling up your glycogen stores (you could actually deplete your glycogen stores. Sweet potatoes have the greatest nutritional value out of all crops. If you want to lose weight, I would recommend a ketogenic diet. You won't go below your nutritional needs, you'll lose fat by depleting your glycogen stores and still build muscle.
1) If you actually took a basic biology class, you would know that all forms of carbohydrates (except fiber) are converted into glucose when digested in the body so there are no "bad carbs". 2) By cutting out carbs, you're cutting out calories (carbs are 4 calories per gram), so yes, it is a caloric deficit. "I always lose fat when I eat less carbs. It has nothing to do with calories" - person who doesn't realize eating less carbs means eating less calories
Crazy Frog goddamn, that was a terrible, non-scientific comment. Ketogenic diets work, sure, but they don't inherently work "better" than other diets. Ultimately, for the average person, calorie-consumption relative to calorie-expenditure dictates weight-loss
so we have the starter of thread.. who thinks lifting and deficit alone gets nice abs..not true.. and based on your quit blocky midsection youre missing a step. some numpty who thinks you cant measure the calories you consume and the biggest super numpty who believes there are no bad carbs... so what like a bag of white sugar is fine then??
Thanks Steve! This was helpful and I was with you til the round the world move - that last move was very advanced!!! You're a good teacher though and I appreciate you grading the exercises to all fitness levels!
Seems like you have the utmost respect for yourself and your sport; when you set out to achieve something you do it wholeheartedly which is admirable. You inspire with your focus on healthy living, cooking, attitude, and workouts regardless of your current goals! So if it feels good and is good then keep at it ✌🏼[like making youtube videos...😆] Honest ur story is so inspirational; where you've been and where will u go from here? It'll be great!! UA-camfam is routing for you!
Thanks for the video!! I was on permabulk mode and kind of neglected abs and now at the end of my first real cut I'm super lean everywhere else, and even in the midsection but the development just isn't there. Work to do while bulking now!
I'm lucky, I never really stored fat on my stomach. It's more in my hips and back. I'm female btw too. And I'm pretty tall, skinny so quite the ectomorph. I never had visible abs though despite there being no fat on my stomach. I started at 25%BF and I'm now at 19% BF and my mid section looks the same, except now that I train abs directly you can see the lines that go vertical. The horizontal lines on the abs are only just started to appear. So for me it wasn't about my body fat, it was cus my ab muscles were basically non existent and I've had to build them up. So it can be annoying when people say just drop BF to get abs. Not always the case...
Hi Steve cook can you make a video about how UA-cam has unsubscribed some from your UA-cam channel because I have been unsubscribed from allot of channels
"Aww what's up guys?! Don't mind me just hangin out here. Got short shorts on so people can see my balls" LOL this vid was well worth it just for that bit! 8:10. Keep it Cookin' Steve!
I do abs in a circuit. I hate doing them but if I don't they'll get weak. I rarely lift with a belt unless it's really heavy. This is my circuit. I do it 3 times a week: Dumbbell Farmer walk at body weight Ab rollout Russian twists Plank hold for 30 seconds Over head press hold at 95lbs for 30 seconds Mountain climbers Captain's chair Dumbbell side bends I do this for 5 rounds of 10 reps and then I Squat Pull up Flat bench press Deadlift Over head press Notice how the core is activated in all these movements? I also do this in a circuit fashion. For 5 rounds of 10. I'm usually done with my workouts in 45 minutes. I hate cardio, but I do that on my off days 3 days a week. Maybe 30 mins. Cardio is boring.
I feel like you can spot reduce a bit. Flabby abs vs tight abs, makes a deference. Just like you can't only run and then will see the abs you never worked. When I hit abs more consistently I notice slimming
Love the workout 😊
How to build abs = work out your core
How to SEE abs = eat clean to reduce your bf %
Feels good to have the trainer editions back with the intro music!
quick and real answer: compound lifts and caloric deficit

I always forget about the windmill. I MUST attempt this! Fail to succeed! #NoShame #EveryLegendHadABeginning
I love training abs/core
In my mind, the pressure you create against the belt, would cause a hernia. Is this incorrect then?
I enjoy the tips, knowledge and seeing jake being slapped in his ball...
can y do a gym tour pls?

steve them legs getting big af bro swole.
For a guy who's around 5'9" and who works out abs quite a bit, how low of a body fat percentage would you say it takes to start seeing abs?
Caleb Fox i would say 7-10% body fat, depending on how muscular your abs are.
That likes to dislike ratio though 💙
Tarush pratap singh That's what you get by being real
Non' AchYourbusiness true
How many sets and rep of each do you do
