      As it would seem white Karens go back centuries. Some Black Karens can have a little reign now! What hurts you is that we are no longer having to be subservient! We can speak our mind without being physically lynched! We are aware you can lynch us in the press but we are not as afraid as we use to be. Just a reminder! White terrorism against Black Folks in Amerikkka is still happening!

      It's nothing new, just a variant of the Maoist struggle sessions during the Cultural Revolution that New Left academics and commie terrorists like Weather Underground adopted in the late 1960s.
      Rather than waste energy denying their accusations, it's more constructive to call people who do this mentally ill psychotics who need a straitjacket and a padded room.

    Wow. This is troubling and very problematic. White people should NOT be automatically viewed as being racist simply due to the colour of their skin just as people of colour should NOT be presumed to be void of racist thinking due to the colour of their skin. RACISM IS A HUMAN CONDITION. We are all in this fight together and the only way that we can combat racism is by truly doing it together. For goodness sakes, the term 'Karen' is, by very definition, a racial slur. Have we not learned anything as human beings? Every single person at this table, including hosts Regina and Saira, carry a variety of biases that they may or may not be consciously aware of. Instead of continuing to DIVIDE people based on skin colour and attributed stereotypes, how about UNITING people with the common desire & goal of actually fighting all prejudice and discrimination TOGETHER. It is neither justified, nor is it accurate, to equate racism with white people alone. Anyone who has experienced stereotyping, prejudice and discrimination themselves SHOULD KNOW BETTER than to turn around and do the same thing to others. How is doing so going to help matters? It is just repeating the same cycle over and over again. EVERY HUMAN BEING, REGARDLESS OF SKIN COLOUR, NEEDS TO CHECK THEIR OWN THOUGHTS FOR BIASES AND MISCONCEPTIONS, HOLD THEMSELVES ACCOUNTABLE FOR ANY MESSED UP THOUGHTS/BELIEFS AND THEN FIX THEM! If we are actually going to make progress in combating racism (and all other isms) then we ALL need to stop making rash judgments/assumptions about each other and stop perpetuating negative stereotypes.

    • @LM-mr3fd
      @LM-mr3fd Рік тому +5

      @@reidphx What truth exactly?? If you read my comment then you should have seen my acknowledgement that ALL human beings carry biases whether they are aware of it or not. I expect everyone at that table to have some biases. No truths were revealed in this short clip as far as I'm concerned so no truths could have struck any of my nerves. What did strike a nerve with me is the perpetuation of problematic stereotypes and the presentation of this video as though it just happened naturally when in reality this gathering was very directed, possibly even scripted, and definitely orchestrated to send a very specific message. They needed these women to behave a certain way and to say certain things for it to have the effect that they were going for. This is extremely problematic because the message that is sent is actually one that is both unfair and inaccurate. Implying that white woman 1) must automatically be racist 2) must also be completely oblivious to their racism and 3) are proven to be racist IF they wouldn't voluntarily become black is NOT OKAY. Asking these women if any of them would change places with a black person may seem ground-breakingly clever (because that is what they are going for in this video) but in reality, doing so is completely UNREASONABLE and is a total SET-UP. If any of these white ladies were to say YES to that question then they would look like ignorant SOBS that are either oblivious to, or in denial of, their own white privilege as well as the ongoing discrimination/injustices that are still routinely experienced by many people of colour in the world today. On the other hand, if any of these white ladies were to say NO (which they all did by not putting up their hands in this video) then, according to this orchestrated 'social experiment', they would somehow be revealing their 'racism' as opposed to their awareness of their own white privilage. Where is the logic in that? Why would that ever be seen as proof of racism? It is a LOSE LOSE situation for any white person asked this question, especially under these contrived circumstances. The maddening thing to me is that this video was clearly DESIGNED to put these white women in this situation with the INTENTION of making them look like they must then be racist. Ironically, not raising their hands would arguably be more in line with them NOT exhibiting racist behaviour given that it demonstrates the awareness that it would be inappropriate and insensitive for them as white women to say that they would trade places with a black person. I find it very hard to believe that Ms Jackson and Ms Rao were not aware of these very significant flaws in their 'social experiment' (which reads much more like a set-up to me) before making this video. Not wanting to change one's skin colour should NEVER be used or presented as evidence of racism because IT IS NOT EVIDENCE OF RACISM. Not raising their hands would be more indicative of actual AWARENESS and COMPASSION...and perhaps even some white guilt tbh. I would NEVER ask another human being if they would willingly change their skin colour, nor would I expect anyone to want to do so. Understandably, white people are not encouraged to be proud of their skin colour whereas people of colour understandably are encouraged to be proud of their skin colour. It shouldn't be viewed negatively if someone just wants to stay themselves. In the case of this video's line of a questioning it was clearly very pointed. There is absolutely no way to know who, if any, of the women around that table are actually racist...including Ms.Jackson and Ms. Rao. We need to stop making rash judgments and we need to stop straining to show so-called 'evidence' to fit our narratives. Racism is undoubtedly still a major problem. That said, IMO, this video actually manages to do a disservice to all those who are trying to combat racism and make actual positive changes in this messed up world of ours. I think that Ms Jackson and Ms Rao would have done much better to utilize an open conversation-type setting (vs. the literal orchestrated set-up). The focus should be on educating people and compassionately helping them to correct any biases that they might be carrying rather than aggressively targeting & labeling people. Teach everyone that we should see each other fully (including colour) & embrace/celebrate one another. Various messages have been sent out over the years depending on the times. En Vogue's 1992 hit song 'Free Your Mind' encouraged people to ''Be color-blind, don't be so shallow''. Those lyrics were important and still are important IMO. That said, in 2023, a white person saying that they don't see color or that they are 'color-blind' is not typically well-received despite them likely being well-intentioned. Compassionate correcting and guidance is all that many of these people need, not attacks and being unfairly labelled as 'racists' . I genuinely fear that the kind of tactics & illogical assertions demonstrated in this video will only serve to divide human beings even more than we sadly already are ☹.

      People need to learn to respect each other in a diplomatic way, but racism is natural. It's not a problem unless people are using it as an excuse to be cruel to others. But nothing wrong with people wanting to live amongst those most like themselves. That's only human, natural.

    • @LM-mr3fd
      @LM-mr3fd Рік тому

      @@angusorvid8840 Racism is NOT natural. Young children, who have not been TAUGHT to judge others by the colour of their skin or ethnicity, have been shown to be very accepting of each other regardless of their differences. Biases unfortunately form with age and sadly, some individuals turn into full-fledged racists but that has more to do with influences within their households and/or influences outside of their households. I honestly don't know which is more concerning, that you think that there is ''nothing wrong' with people only wanting to live amongst those most like themselves'' OR that you assume that people with the same skin colour and/or of the same ethnic group would automatically be the ''most'' alike. That is a BIG misconception. Those willing to live in a diverse community and to interact with any/all members of said community will likely find commonalities with ALL people in the community to varying degrees. Skin colour and ethnicity are by no means reliable predictors of commonalities between people. Just as you can share skin colour or ethnicity with someone yet have very little else in common, you can also NOT share skin colour or ethnicity with someone yet have a multitude of things in common. And FYI, being ''diplomatic'' while secretly harboring racist beliefs is neither okay, nor is it respectful. We should all aim to genuinely love, appreciate & celebrate one another, not just tolerate one another.

    So I have non-white in-laws who if asked, "would you trade places with a white person in this society?" would all say no. It's a shamelessly manipulative gesture on the filmmaker's part. And designed for a fake "gotcha" moment. As to your title? You might want to tell that to Coleman Hughes, who just wrote a brilliant book: "The End of Racial Politics--Arguments for a Colorblind America". And guess what, he isn't white.
