Watching a Candide film is a religious experience for skiers.
That's so true. I understand the feeling of speeding down the slope. It really is great.
Ty Lockton Yes it is
and boarders.
I understand how you feel. I think skiing is very fun.
Ty Lockton Then that makes snowboarders heretics?
Who the hell are the 63 people who disliked this? This guy is the founding father of freeride, he's a straight up living legend. He's probably the best skier in the world to date
I know, right! I signed into bot of my accounts to like this video!
They thought it said Dis-I-Like
It should be forbidden to unlike this video. The low push should have been exceptionally removed by UA-cam. Another analysis is that the finger of these 63 haters may have accidentally clicked on the wrong thumbnail. Otherwise I have no other explanation... FEW WORDS.
That was me! I removed my like, disliked it, just so I can like it again.
The old timers on the mountain that hate everything and everyone
7 years later and this is still the best edit I’ve ever watched. True perfection.
Anyone know what river that was at :48 seconds.
This is the single greatest skiing movie about the single greatest skier of all time.
Hands down the best skier.
best ever
because he's french :P

At first i thought it's too long to watch. After i've watched it i think it could have been even longer. Simply breathtaking
Is it a one-hour movie long a long movie? In what kind of warped dimension do you live bro?
Think he more so was in the market for a shorter, more concise clip. It's not unreasonable to consider something an hour long "too long" to command your attention
Same XD
Couldn't be more correct.

we wanna see a mountain named after Candide Thovex....thank you
franko forest bruh get a range named after him
Mt. Thovex has a nice ring to it

Well, it's a shame every ski video I watch from now on will be downhill from here.
Usually, downhill is much more action packed than uphill in ski movies anyways… ;)

I got it mate haha wasted on most
In the meantime from tanner hallows short but very nice
Film is ridiculously good. I'm not a boarder but I love how they gave props to the boarders. They were looking for something different and found it. Film also captures the emotional barrage of happiness I get when I ski. Sound track is great too...thanks for this film!!!
Amazing skills
Amazing songs
Amazing editing
Amazing Man
Amazing landscapes!
This movie is just perfect, thank you for sharing this perfection for free!
Noskeal Can I hit the "thumbs-up" button more than once?! :D
Your desire to do this is largely enough :D
+Noskeal Well put! I don't even know _what_ this movie is about, but I'm only 2 minutes in and already hooked.
This cinematography is on the same level as *_Terence fucking Mallick_*. And that's saying something...
What's crazy is...the opening shots of this focus entirely on the Winter Temperate Forest ecosystem. Imagine if this same film crew shot _every_ ecosystem on earth? Jungles, the arctic, deserts, tundra, coral reefs, mountain ranges, etc. And why not add human ecosystems to the mix....aboriginal tribes, small villages, cities, and mega metropolises. I know Planet Earth and other docs have done this before....but there's just something truly special about the opening scenes of _this_ movie; the lack of narration, the perfectly suited music, and of course the gorgeous cinematography. I'd pay to see this same film crew make sans-narration docs on any other subject. I'm just kind of in awe at how good this is.... :)
+avedic I'm totally agree. You put the rights word to define this perfection. Good job!
Noskeal perfectly said
I watch this at the beginning of every ski season to get stoked.
Same haha
Doing that right now. Opening day is tommorow :D
Watched it right now with my wife who has broken her lower leg 3x 2 weeks ago during skiing. Tomorrow the whole family is going for a week of skiing... 😆
Same going skiing in a week
It’s that time
This is seriously the best ski movie i ever wacthed. It tells a beautyfull story LOVE IT

The first time I heard about Candide was when I was about 10 years old.
I rented a VHS of the 1999 Winter Gravity Games and Candide won the Big Air competition against Johnny Mosley (who is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met)
I was absolutely floored by Candide. I rented that VHS more times than I could count… in fact if I remember right, the rental shop had a deal where if you rented a VHS more than 20 times, you could keep it… and I think we still have it somewhere at my step mom’s house.
Though I ended up snowboarding, Candide has been one of my biggest influences for wanting to get into snow sports, and now I’m a member of snowmaking leadership for a major resort in Colorado.
THANK YOU CANDIDE!!!
Possibly the best video on youtube.
Could watch this every day.
I watch this every day.
Candide is a legend, doing ballet in a mountain never seemed more gracious. What an inspiration for taking things to just a beautiful and crazy level. Absolute stunning movie.
Not just the greatest skier ever. One of the greatest athletes ever too. He deserves so much respect, and comparison to all the other "greatest at their sports". But watching Candide spreads more joy for me than any winner of the 100m, Tour de France or whatever else you care to name. Perhaps Messi, at his most magical, did things so absurd that he made the world laugh with pure elation. Candide is like that. Watching him is a pleasure. It makes anyone feel great.
I definitely consider him the Messi of skiing. Nobody else has ever made what they do look so natural. He should be more widely known, but considering he doesn’t do public stuff it’s not really surprising.
I was just comparing Candide to Messi in my mind haha Only these 2 men ever made me emotional watching them create and perform. Both their movements seems so insync with nature. I could spot a Messi dribble from a mile away and same with a Candide line... I can just spot him even if he's skiing straight. Only these two make this a religious experience for me and nobody else. I've watched this video atleast 2-3 dozen times just like I've watched some of Messi's. You can't explain them.. just experience them.
Candide is a legend, the creator of a style, the pioneer of the sport. he is still the most well rounded skier from park to big MT he the best also 100% the most well made movie in the 15 years 2 months youtube has been around
Candide is a great skier for sure but I don't remember him pioneering anything. What style do you think he created?
Balls
@@guyincognito. you dont need to create a style to be a pioneer of it
@@guyincognito. his style that many skiers including myself try to imitate. Candide has a very unique style
@@ToddHoward3 Effortless and totally in control is his style to me. Definitely what I attempt to replicate on the mountain.
Words can’t describe this man, not only did he single handedly make the sport what it is today. But he was doing things in 2003 that people can only dream of now.
The best skier we’ve ever seen and we might not get another like him
im gonna be like him
I saw lots of movie about freestylers and freeriders but he still the best skier born on this earth ! Seriously this man is just the God of all skiers. Thanks for what you did in your life you are a true exemple for many generations. Legends are living for eternity !
Tanner Hall could give him a run for his money as the best ever
That crossed my mind, if you want to see God enjoy a piece of his creation, watch Candide ski.
@@thomasmorgan7004 or Sammy Carlson
@@dillondjenkins yep for me sammy is better than Tanner hall ever was he comes closest to to CT but even he doesnt quite make it. Candide is just riding everything so fast and agressive while making it look so easy and do it in style. Candide is like the hoji plus sammy carlson
I’m a snowboarder, your creativity on the mountain definitely defines you, Candide defines freestyle skiing. My skiing friends finds it amusing I talk about Candide. 2 years before Candids accident, I crushed a vertebrae when a cornice broke on me . When the Doctors said I would be back, the motivation to get back the fitness and on the mountain was immense.I’m so grateful for every day I’m back. When he released that video back again , it was ecstatic. A great movie, I watched several times and love it. Blizzard of Ahhs is probably the only ski video which I have watched lots of time 😊
"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you could possibly imagine" .. Candide Thovex is a Jedi.
Candide Thovex, the ski god, the legend
I agree. If there is a God of Ski, Candide is at the very least His incarnation in flesh. That guy lives, breathes and dreams skiing.
The beginning 0:00 - 7:00 of this video wasn't a skiing video it was really good snow porn which I enjoyed immensely!
Oui vraiment belle musique

@brad flynn Porn is destructive and scarring? Wat? xD
I grew up in the era of Scott Schmidt and Glenn Plake, and what they were dong was amazing. Watching what people can do now with these new skis is unFUCKINGbelievable. And these guys are doing the same bad ass drop-offs onto pillows and everything but now their doing back flips and all that. Wow, things have changed.
hi
I remember 'Blizzard of Aaahs!' being unbelievable and wondering how the hell they stayed upright
Ahhhhhhh yes glenn plake momentarily meeting him was one of the highlights of my life
It's all relative one influence the other
Beautifully made. Should be shown in cinemas.

This should be show on prime time TV around the world. All people should see this movie at least once in their life.
Literally took me 30 mins to get through the first 10 mins. So many sick pillow lines and big mountain shredding! Great film!
yes! The Legend ... continues! Such an amazing film.
Je reviens ici même 8 ans après, ce film est un pèlerinage de la Ride. Quel skieur, quelles images, la bande son, le parcours de ce gars et surtout la coolitude et la simplicité quand on le croise à la Cluclu

Skiing
I remember being at the pipe at "Les deux Alpes", summer 2005, lot of pros were there because it's almost the only place where you can ski during the summer in France, so you can imagine the level was already very high on the spot but at the end of the morning Candide arrived, alone ! first thing I thought was "damn he is small", then he destroooooyed the pipe with mindblowing amplitude for the time, everybody was shocked lol, it was like twice higher than all the best riders we saw before, almost supernatural.
I started skiing before I was 3. I grew up on the mountain and my dad owned a couple ski shops. I am a phenomenal skier I used to win all the mogul competitions at Mt. Hood in the early 90's and I've seen a multitude of great skiers Glenn Plake, Johnny Moseley, but Candide is far and away head and shoulders the best, there's not even a remotely close second... He's truly a BADASS!!!!
No body cares

Every time there is new Ski edit that blows me away I come back and watch this and it blows me away even more
What's crazy about the film is it builds the mystic of Candide without him actually narrating or even talking on the film. I love the end when he falls on the pond and then does his little dance at end of bridge, again only adding to the mystic and gives him that playful yet not taking himself too seriously even though what he does is totatlly whacked for most and completely from the heavens when you watch and out of reach for 99.9% of humans.
You can spend years searching for a perfect line. You can spend a lifetime trying to find words to describe beauty and fail repeatedly. You can watch candied transcend skiing and in stunned silence realize he has, for decades, been pointing so many ways to enlightenment.
this was fucking epic
It was pretty trash. Had to stop after 10 minutes because of shit music and french without translation.
@@torilose well i guess you are the problem and not the vid then

38:00 - This is the most amazing skiing I've seen
Be Snow my friend! Candide got the message for sure. Speechless!
Even after 6 years... Hands down one of my TOP 5 ski edit video ever. I'll show it to my kids ❤️
Magnifique Candide. Tu as suivi ton rêve de gosse... et tu as emmené le ski avec toi... et tu continues encore aujourd'hui. Tu resteras LE skieur de référence.
I have never Seen such a beautiful movie...
When I whached I was so much in the Story of this mind blowing view and such a magnificent Talent
probs at all of the guy from quicksilver
This dude just stomps lines that I doubt I'd even hike down...in the summer. I am a snowboarder but watching him ski is amazing.
I’ve prolly watched this movie at least 4 times a year for 4 consecutive years never gets old. Candide is the man the living myth and a freakin legend hands down greatest ski movie I ever seen crushes warren miller moves in fact it makes Warren Miller movies look like child’s play
The air just holds him like him like a parent... breathtakingly beautiful. Best content on you tube. Wish it was longer.
28:00 "IS HE SKIING OR IS HE BASE JUMPING!" I'm rolling on the ground laughing
Don't think I've ever seen a documentary quite like this - pure grace captured with glorious cinematography
the skiing is of course magnificent...but the film itself also is divine...the cinematography and it's coordination with the music...wasn't expecting that part of the trip...you free-style'rs have your own world...
I grew up watching Greg Stump films featuring Scott Schmitt, Glen Plake and Kevin Andrews but I still can remember the first time I saw Candide take the techniques he mastered in the park and bring them to the backcountry and I knew he was the future of skiing.
Todd Jones comment at 28:45. (Thank you BTW Todd for this comment)
While watching this, I thought to myself how similar Candide and CR Johnson ski. I always wondered what it would be like to see CR skiing today, and I can at least get a glimpse through Candide. Thank you Candide for your beautiful skiing. RIP CR.❤️
6 Years Later and I´m still Watching This Masterpiece, You Inspired me Candide Thank You! ;)
Candide Thovex takes skiing to the next level..!
He is genius, and I am not easily impressed. He has authentic style, there is freedom in how he skies. I think he is one of greatest and inspirational skiers.
Amazing movie, Candide was and will stay a legend.
I love the way this guy skis. He plays with the mountain -- nothing artificial -- like terrain parks. He is the best.
God... It' absolutely fantastic! I love the cinematography, i love the image, i love ALL
Candide is perhaps the best Boarder in the world... on skiis. And, the cinematography is as astounding as his skiing! Watch it again and again - what a story.
This man is an artist
Candide... what a man, he went soo big! simply my favourite ski film.
Candide in my opinion is the most superhero-like of any skier ever. 8 years ago this film was an expression of futuristic skiing and 8 years later it still is.
He must have knees of steel. I think my legs would snap in half on some of those landings

I have done ski once for 5 days and fell alot. But i am loving it. Cant wait to be on snow again.
I'm a lifelong snowboarder, but absolutely mesmerized by Candide's movies and performances and what he's done to skiing. Doesn't matter if you ski or board, this movie and Candide himself is next-level, I am in complete awe!
Thanks man!!!! We worked out asses of for this project... glad to see it’s testing it’s time
It is still at the top. Just curious though, have you noticed the frame drop/duplication issue that give a slight pause effect every second or so? Some kind of encoding issue? Believe me, I know back when this was filmed encoding was much trickier for web formats.
EPIC. Passion, faith, inspiration. Thanx Candide
Yea I watched this movie with a pleasure, amazing people, - one of the kind and the best skier, the best free style without a question I love it!
51:48 I can never prevent the chills that ALWAYS come to my body when I see drops like this. Holy hell!

Best skier out there. Such a great Movie !!!!
Im a snowboarder and surfer and this is equally the best sporting docco ever!! I recently have seen that he's a big wave skier now 🤯
avalanche is scared of Candide!
😐
movie almost 10 years old, footage as much as 20 years old, still holds up. extremely rare in ski movies !!!!!!!!
This documentary deserves more credit🙌
Truly, in my opinion, one if not the very best, free skiiers in the world.
most amazing and inspirational ski documentary ever made.....
I just love the fact that it's an hour film about Candide skiing and he only says one sentence the whole film. It really is true his skiing is so good it just speaks for itself.
Respect is earned by doing things that people is not prepared for.
Releasing the best documentary about modern skiing is one way to earn it.
Thanks, been a favorite since it dropped!
This guy is more than gifted!!! Like mentioned in the film, it's quite easy to follow but breaking new frontiers, on the other hand, needs a skilled pioneer! Thanks for this beautifully produced film!!
This is one of the biggest talent of freeride skiing I ever seen. Keep it going as you are the inspiration for young generation. My 3 years old son keeps watching you with fully smile on his face. 👍
Myself a very mediocre skier who sticks mainly to blue/ red slopes with occasional black one very slowly and painfully. To watch such talent, Candide is so one with the nature, the freedom he exudes and shares with us. I can only view these splendid landscapes through his lens. I am in awe of such abilities and freedom and fun! Formidable et surtout merci pour ce très beau film. Cet homme est un vrai ressort: he takes a tumble and springs back. If I fall into powder, you’ll have to wait for snow to melt in spring to see me again😅. Such agility. Beautiful and inspiring.
I am amazed at how the sub-atomic particles in Candide's body responded so well to his love of living in his body through skiing. Not a matter of mind over matter but getting out of the way to allow matter manifest the drive of being. Candide, c'est inspirant ton histoire.
Candide is the skier who has motivated more to go out and ski than anyone else. I owe him a lot just for that.
Impossible de ne pas pleurer face à tant de beauté.
Thank You Candide for shaping the way skiing is today! Worlds Best !!!!!
I really appreciate the honesty of skiers who said that this style of riding was inspired from watching the snowboarders
Thanks.. it really came from the heart. I loved how much snowboarding was affecting how we saw things then.
Btw... I’m Skye , the skier that said it in the movie
Candide.. .... is the best skier in the world......
what a great movie. Thanks for doing it. Just amazing
Merci Candide pour ce film, incroyable tout simplement.🏂
The oversized skiing and camera work compete for absolute majesty :D My eyes were bulging and tearing throughout. Thanks to all, lovely hour spent as we're all indoors right now!

Absolutely breathtaking intro
Amazing and beautiful movie, what an athlete and talent, relentless pushing limits.
Reminds me of Travis Rice Style.
I so much love watching this movie, but my favorite part starts at 47:40 it's just friends having a good day of spring skiing.. and stomping their landings. I love skiing in the slush.
That day was soooo much fun!!!! Laurent and lolo were teeing off on the step up I built... such a great vibe that day
@@eatpowder You built?
@@milesgillespie6665 yup... I have been shaping all kinds of stuff with candide since CK1. He actually edited it in my kitchen in St Anton. My name is Skye, I’m interviewed in here as well. Still, that day will always stick out... I’m also the guy in a black jacket hitting the backy, but Laurent Thevenet (kid with the armadas) was killing it on the weird 1/4 thingy I shaped
@@eatpowder Well, congratulations on helping to produce the best ski film out there, even better than 'The Blizzard of Aahhs'... and that's saying something. I imagine it's almost impossible to keep up with Candide when he wants to let his skis run.
@@eatpowder I have to ask... as a kid, did you ever shape your mashed potatoes at the dinner table? Or is that just me.
I'm a snowboarder. But this was epic. This guy can tear it up. I like the nod they gave to snowboarders. The editing and music...👍
Who votes this down? Seriously... Like, even Tanner and Simon would vote this up. I'm so confused. This guy is a Founding Father. He's up there with Chris Hawks and Turpin, who were just slightly before his time. I assume it's either Shawn White or Beiber.

I, as a snowboarder, still truly admire this guy, his style of riding, everything he does for the sport. when it comes to extraordinary talent and dedication no one cares if you have one or two wooden planks under your feet.
This is one of the best ski movies! I've watched this sooooooooo many times.
