Wow, I'm glad I saw your video before I purchase mine. The polyurethane and silicone additions are great tips for longevity! I would be extremely disappointed if I had to buy another one after only 3 years of use. Many thanks! 😎👍🏻🐔🐔

Just this week our city changed the ordinance for Chickens. I got the same one as you have and I did the silicone caulk as you did. I am going to use Venture Clad on the roofs. Also going to set it on treated 2x6's. Going to do Rustolieum on the wood. Very nice vid.

I agree, any pre-fabricated coop won’t last very long at all. 3 years if you’re lucky! That’s part of the reason I chose this one, the metal frame should hold up well. Great ideas for prolonging the lifespan! I’m definitely saving this video for future modifications. 😎 (Edit: I would add caulking to the screws on the tin roof for added water protection.)

Metal roof screws come with a rubber gasket to seal when tightened.

Thank you so much for making this video. We just got the same coop and I'm so glad we found this. We saw some other videos where people said theirs only last 2 to 3 years. I was curious what size self tappers you used and if you sealed them or not?

Thanks for the ideas. I'm thinking maybe reframing a roof to allow better ventilation in the gable for winter (in Ohio) and using the metal roofing for longevity.
How has it held up after a year?

@@EastRiverHomestead Please consider an update, as a little prevention should have extend the coops wear. I am thinking about getting back into having some chickens, but I do not want to build a coop from scratch. I have been looking a the plastic coops, THe TIKE Style of put together and a dog run with a roof.
