How I wish pes 2019 myclub mode will allow players to change formation and tactic ourself without the need to acquire manager with fixed formation which I think is pointless. I love legend players though.
That is one of the points that does put me off MyClub - the lack of tactical flexibility, however, at least it prevents those cheese formations, that are super lame and you know the match isn't going to be very realistic :)
For me neither is better than the other. You can with and lose with both possession play and counter attack. Counter attacking, hoofing, button bashers are by far the most common opponent you’ll come across when playing online, but as shit as those players are the high possession, low shots, sideway passers are just as bad! Possession can be the most overrated stat in football imo (I say that as an Arsenal fan!) Those players who have high avg possession but yet their slider more towards counter attack are dangerous imo. They’ll have high possession but be direct with it and make chances, not slow sideways passing and no chances. Being creative and making chances is what PES is all about for me. We all hate losing but I can have respect when beaten by someone who’s genuinely creative rather than the repetitive cross spammer or predictable possession player. Ps - Spoony P is bang on when he says sometimes you have to go backwards to go forwards!

But i had 50% average possession so not very much, because i dont like holding the ball and not take a shot, but also dont play counter attack. But i had 1000 rating so it worked for me.
But i think straight possession oponents can be very dangerous if they score first, they always can holding the ball very safely, and if they score is hard to equalize as they know perfectly how to hold the ball. But on the orher side, when they losing and need to score, they usually cant score. PS i know it was long time ago but it works the same in pes 19
Gon Busta I would say make use of both depending how the game is going... if you're leading and the opposition are throwing everything at you, then switch to more deep defensive formation and use counter attack. If someone is sitting in deep and you want to control the game, then choose possession. Cheers bro

Im gonna throw a spanner in the works and ask - does it not work both ways? Does good counter attacking player is also not good in possession? ;) First few minutes of the video shows well how both styles play out. Im finding counter attack better if you like to play quick football. If you have patience than possession should suits you better. Counter attack has its perks. Quite often you will end up near opponent goal before they regroup and you have less defenders to worry about. Not even because of you playing long balls, but mainly because in counter attack your players seems to be more eager to go forward. They do better runs which is one of the flaws of PES18 in my opinion. Runs are not great, and even when you trigger manual runs, instead of dashing forward, they just...jog along, which really pisses me off...;D
Hey dude, if they're jogging when you trigger them, they're nackered! lol. You can only do that about 3 or 4 times before a player becomes tired, so use it sparingly. You're absolutely right, counter attack makes your players go forward quicker - but online - that's so easy to deal with generally. If you come across a really good possession player, you can't afford to lose the ball otherwise you don't see the ball for 10-15mins which becomes frustrating and makes you reluctant to long ball. Both totally accessible but I think if you had 2 players of equal skill at the top level, I think possession should win over a counter attacker... not always but more often than not.

In PES 2017 counterattack was the way. However, in PES possession is what I used.

For me when Im playing on "Top Player" the cpu shuts me down with 2nd division squads..so "neither" lol
