Going to make a Tank/Bard class. Excited for it.

I'm honestly happy that Ashes doesn't actually have 64 different classes: that would be an absolute balancing nightmare. This class system is more of an 8 class system, each with 8 different "flavors", which sounds much more manageable by both players and developers.
I'm personally going for a Charlatan that it's heavily speced in exploring and utility, with some personal damage if I can affort it. Since I want to mainly focus on sea faring and dungeon exploration, I think this is fine and adds to the captain persona I want my character to have (a pirate who buffs the crew during fights and leads the explorations). Plus, the combination of Rogue and Bard sounds like a great meme and I just want to try it for the lols.

Man, i loved Rift...until Trion ruined it. Sigh. Great video. I also will be playing every archetype during Alpha2.

Yep, it was great early on

@@RyveGenesis Agreed, they then went down the PvE route, still a very good MMO but I left because I prefer PvP or at least 50/50. Their instanced PvP (forget what they called it) had some really fun maps, though no MMO has come close to the maps in WAR, which were so varied and awesome. WoW did the 3 well designed BGs but never expanded on it, no idea why not. New maps are fun, even if they are not well designed, can just take the poor ones out of rotation, pop em in every now and then. Ah well, PvPers are the lesser chunk of MMO players... it is funny how a MMO needs to at least say 'PvP' when in reality 70% don't PvP all that much, but they seem to want it in their MMO anyway... at least early on.

I think the question is: "How different is a Mage/Fighter from a Mage/Rogue?".
Does it have a completely different feeling to it? Is it just a different colour of the same shape?
You also talked about augmentations based on religion and race. How much difference does that decision shows in the final build of the class?
This is the feature/system regarding this game that I'm the most sceptical that they will be able to pull off properly.

According to steven you will still 'feel like' you are playing a tank regardless of your secondary choice, so I doubt it will be a drastic change for everything but the summoner, which seems like it's entire identity relies on the secondary choice.

@@Dagnar1478 So a difference between a Tank/Warrior and a Tank/rogue for example would be that I would be absorbing damage with blocks in the Tank/Warrior and I would be evading damage with the Tank/rogue?
So I would still be tanking but in a different way.
If this is the approach I'm fine with it, it's different enough. I do hope they implement a trial period after choosing the 2nd class so people can try the different combinations.

@@Shurikinnn yes that is probably close to what we are getting. Alpha 2 will probably have free resets just to get testing data, but resets in the actual release are intended to be a little more difficult than just paying a respec cost like in WoW. We are probably going to have to do a quest and get some resources to turn in for it. I like the approach they are taking it, but I hope you can do it relatively quickly so you can make roster changes in raids or groups to fill them out better.

I'm also leaning toward rogue or ranger depending on how available ranged options are for the rogue

My hope is that you will still gain some decent vertical power progression in your secondary archetype, but perhaps not as much as your first. We know from steven a tank/x is always going to play like a tank, so I wouldn't expect some grand transformation, bar the summoner, which seems like it's entire identity revolves around the secondary pick.

Hopefully a number of 'builds' are fun and viable. I always felt GW2 was a little bit of a let down in the number effective builds, given the number of choices. I enjoyed Rift's class system a lot as well, there were a number of interesting and very viable builds in it (it did suffer from some very simple but very effective setups that could spam 2-3 abilities, not sure why devs didn't make some simple changes on that). Of course, some players will go nuts complaining about the rock-paper-scissors setup, luckily AoC devs will just ignore them and they will eventually go away. Finally, don't play a rogue, I doubt that you have the right demeanor for it. (for example, can you complain endlessly that you can't 1-2 shot even tanks from stealth while also arguing endlessly that you should always be able to escape? I think not! 😋)

It is a bit sad because with hearing that classes won't be changed that much it means we are left just with one tank and one healer type. No some voodoo/druidic healers and/or variety of tanks. If you don't like cleric you don't play healer at all. Bard should be 2nd healer option in my opinion.

    • @Dagnar1478
      @Dagnar1478 Рік тому

It would be nice if there was at least one more option for tank and healer, but we can hope that we get variety in future patches or expansions. I'd rather see a smaller subset of the game release and get balancing down before adding complexity.

Balancing 64 classes wouldn't be too bad. Just need a clear vision of what their overall interactions with each other would be. Dark Age of Camelot has 45 classes and great PvP. Pretty positive AoC is copying a lot from DAoC.

The apparent amount of work to be done on the archetypes suggests to me that Alpha 2 is still quite distant.

Alpha 2 level cap is 30, so I doubt they are aiming for much in terms of secondary archetype balancing for its launch
