aloha uke friends! have fun with this one! download a free chord chart at bit.ly/2LZQLO9, and you can find the full chucking tutorial at bit.ly/howtochuck. thanks for watching!! and give a thumbs up for Brian on the U-bass!! xo cynthia.
The first day, I learned the new chords (Eb, D7) and the strumming pattern Gm (dX) Eb(u). The second day, I learned Eb(uduX) D7 (U -uXu- uXu). 3 days later, I'm humming Havana Thanks 😘You are my best ukulele teacher
Cynthia, I love this song! I have been practicing this for some time but always got the thumb of left hand very painful when I reach the end and the fingers shaking. This is frustrating me a lot and I don’t know how to go over it!
I thank you for sharing your gift with everyone. 58 years old and learning to play my first instrument and you are the BEST teacher for me!!! Blessings
Me too, 59 years old (1st instrument) and it's a struggle but I keep at it. It's taught me a deep appreciation of musicians and performers of any kind. Cynthia is one of the best teachers around.
Thank you for posting that, Lori, Maria and Ina! I am 34 and learning to play feeling ashamed like it is too late to learn. But it’s a pleasure to play now.
Thk u for making this video. I have been watching Ariel’s tutorial for this song but I couldn’t catch up. Your tutorial is so easy to follow. Good Job! U re a great teacher!
Cynthia, I love your cover on this! Two things I would wish for: 1) your playing & singing this song as a separate MP3 so I could listen to it a lot as I go about chores - I don’t see it on an album of yours yet; and 2) having the words to HAVANA on the screen as you start putting the words to the chords and strum; I’ve been saying “Down-chuck - up down up-chuck etc” so much through all my practicing that I’m having trouble fitting the words into my playing it! I’m pretty-much a beginner but I can play it ok but not with the words. Thank you! I really love this song!
I really, really love your tutorials! Thank you so much! ❤️ Also, you have such a beautiful and lovely vibe coming through the youtubes that I'm feeling like 'everything will be ok', so pls keep on doing these videos :)
Thank you, thank you, Cynthia! I suggested bar chord tips and more advanced strumming patterns, so I feel like this tutorial was speaking directly to me! ❤️ I paid close attention and have been practicing every spare second. Had some breakthroughs and that feels amazing!! Thank you for this!! Love your beautiful, smooth rendition. Oh, also, my kids are in love with this song so thank you for making me seem so cool in their eyes! 😎
Soooo very excited about this session! Was JUST trying to work out this one for our little 5 yr old granddaughter (she loves it so much!) and was so sad that you’d not done it yet. You are amazing! Thank you so much!!! 🙏🎶🌺
Any chance you'd be willing to do a video in the version Ariel does? She uses a c-minor instead and that seems to be a little easier for beginners!! Also, the key of a-minor seems to be easier for beginners as well. For those of us beginners, could you put the chord chart off to the side all the way through the song? That helps sooooo much for those of us who are just learning the chords and trying to remember how to play them. Also, slow it down considerably on your first play through so we can keep up with you!! LOL! It's far more fun to play along with you but sometimes I have to set my playback speed so slow that it doesn't even sound like the song after that. Somewhere between .75 and .50 would be perfect. .75 is still a little too fast but .50 is painfully slow and sounds horrible. Let's land in the middle somewhere for that first play through in the video... LOL!
Emily Grace. I hope you have made progress here. One of the huge advantages of Gm to Eb is the 1 finger chord change... Where else in the ukulele universe do you get a chance to play Eb as a beginner with zero pain? Good luck! Mark.
Three chords is without doubt the tune, but which three chords? Gm is good, Instead of Eflat, why not choose Cminor? Instead of D7, why not just choose D and use D7 for only for accents? You must have tried these alternates.
Hello every one and hello to Cynthia, my new coach :) I have started uku 2 weeks ago ! I have really started the very first day with a method bought at the shop. From day 2 to now, I am playing because of your tutos. I have played many of beginners you offer ! Thank you a million Cynthia ! I am improving so quickly because of you ! I really like and enjoy your videos ! Nico from France ;-)
As someone who lives in Hawaii for seven years and as a new ukulele player with an acoustical/electric, I think your teaching methods are focused and perfect in their approach for both beginner and intermediate players. Keep up the great work Cynthia🌴🌈🍊🍍🍌
i always wanted to learn this song with ukulele , thanks i love it i'm gonna follow your advices you know i made a cover of this song Unfortunately with piano and voice , but now i can made one with the ukulele if you want go take a look :) and another time thanks
Adoro seus tutoriais. Sou iniciante no ukulele e seus tutoriais me incentivam muito a continuar. Lindo esse seu ukulele, um dia quero poder comprar um igualzinho!😍
Does she use the middle finger to help the index finger in D7? or is it just resting there? I wonder if it is a trick, since you stay a lot at this bar chord throughout the song...BTW love u Cynthia!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE your videos. I am a patron also and find you to be an excellent teacher. I also really enjoy your voice when you sing, very relaxing. Keep it up and thank you for sharing your joyous spirit and helping others find joy through making music.
Hey Cynthia, you're such an amazing teacher I want to wish you "Happy Teachers Day" in advance (because I won't remember to do this when it actually comes).
Thanks for the great video! When I go from Eb to D7 on my soprano (which doesn't have a strap) my ukulele moves. This is much better on my tenor (which has a strap) but I have not had this problem with other chord changes. Would be grateful for tips on how to keep the uke in place during this song 🙂
Thank you so much Cynthia. After my recent trip to Hawaii, I determined to learn how to play ukulele. I have zero experience in playing musical instruments. Your tutorials help me a lot. I almost gave up at Day7 because I couldn’t play island strum after watching many tutorials. With your detailed tutorial and practice, I’m able to play chucking with island strum at Day 18. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this 3 chord song. Sounds awesome played this way, peaceful and mellow; can hear gentle ocean waves in your singing. You have a very beautiful voice. Thanks for the tutorial and a big Congratulations on your signature Ukulele 🙌🙏Happy day to you both. 👍U-Brian 😎

Great! Thanks Cynthia. Fun song too. Loved the bass as well. Very soulful.
Cynthia, I love this song! I have been practicing this for some time but always got the thumb of left hand very painful when I reach the end and the fingers shaking. This is frustrating me a lot and I don’t know how to go over it!
barr chords hurt my left hand fingers so much... especially the thumb joint
am i doing something wrong or is this normal

I really, really love your tutorials! Thank you so much! ❤️
Also, you have such a beautiful and lovely vibe coming through the youtubes that I'm feeling like 'everything will be ok', so pls keep on doing these videos :)
This is one of the most fun songs I've learned so far. Who knew upchucking could be so satisfying? Cynthia Lin, you're my fave.
No wonder I love this song, its just 3 of my favorite chords over and over! 😊I love the chuck strum, great beat!
you are my favorite uku teacher. Come to NYC :)
Changing from Eb to D7 makes me so frustrated lol but i will keep trying. Thank u for the amazing tutorial!

Cynthia, the angles in heaven must be in awe of your voice; I certainly am. ❤️
