Soooo good! From the moment Peel played one of their songs I was hooked. Unique and brilliantly random. And each day (you listen to Kleenex/LiLiput) you feel nicer!
The bass player reminds me of the cute bass player in the band DELTA 5,, ..of "Mind Your Own Business" ~ new Apple Iphone commercial FAME. ( 6/1/21 ) ♡
The Take is from 1978, filmed then in the studio of the National Swiss TV - "Beri-Beri" beside the Hit-Single "Nice" - as Part of a Female Music-Special, featuring also Lene Lovich, Pat Benatar and Swiss Singer Betty Legler. There was also another Swiss Punk-Band, called "Neon" with their Song "Nazi-Darling) with Astrid Spirit, that became later "Kleenex/Liliput"s lead Singer. John Peel was Fan of "Kleenex" and broadcasted them often on the BBC. RIP Marlene Marder (1954 - 2016) (Pat, Zurich; Switzerland)
This is so great to see. Thanks for uploading . I saw a comment about THE FALL... MY VERY FAVORITE BAND ALSO ! I never thought about it but , YEAH ...Some FALL stark bass sounds. LONG LIVE THE FALL
I really thought she was singing in German in the first song, then realized it was English lol. I took me about a minute. Then I saw the lyrics in the description for 'Nice' were in German & realized she was singing heavily German accented English in the 1st song. That was a trip going on that wee journey hahaha.
Actually, if I'm not mistaken, at the time the Swiss government was giving sizeable grants to musicians. The Lilliput/Kleenex members were all painters and media artists but saw music as a good revenue stream to be able to live off of. This is also before Switzerland became the land of the rich as we know it today, but from what it sounds like they were able live and continue creating their art somewhat comfortably.
Thanks. You have no idea how many times I've listened to this song without being able to understand the "and do it better" part. Having read your comment it's obvious!
Very Wire, early Talking Heads, Gang of Four, Pylon. Spikey, angular post-punk. Stacks up well with all those bands. No wonder Kurt loved them so much.
You make it sound like Kleenex was influenced by the bands you mentioned but should I remind you this from 1978? Gang of Four's Entertainment! came out the year after that, etc.
They all look very boyish, not that i care, their music is fuckin top notch Im more interested in learning and playing/singing the guitar and lyrics, idk if i have the voice for a girlband song though 🤣
Result of the youngest Boomers wanting their own music. Extended to 1991, USA, UK, and Nirvana In 1991. Classic Rock AOR stations still played same exact music in 1991 as if it were 1969. It was time for new groups.
crikey, they were clean, weren't they? I mean, sparkling! (just read that back and saw the name of the band properly, no pun intended, I promise). Second track is my fave
Le regard et les coups d'œil de la bassiste me font penser à Konrad veidt dans le personnage de Cesare. Bonne interprétation de ces filles . On n'est pas dans l'imitation stupide du groupe de marionnettes de mac laren.

This is very good music from this era. Some of the best.
That bass player is the coolest thing I've ever seen.

@@gazriley624 Klaudia's still alive. You might be thinking of the guitarist, Marlene, who passed away in 2016.
Yes, and thankfully the camera operator agrees!
@@Turtle152 Klaudia....yeah. She should be the bass player in every band.
@@Turtle152 She be glad to know she not yet dead!
the best band... that there ever was... their first 7" on Sunrise recs. will never be topped for sheer invention & sheer energy.
There's something so fantastic about them... It's really quite startling.
There is a certain aura to this video that is divinely bad ass.
Thanks for uploading this 😊
Oh, the power of that rhythm!!!
This is the best.
Great band.
Absolutely love it.
Sorry about what?
wow, just found this band , awesome. luv that bass. Reminds me of my fav band ever, The Fall.
Bought this on an EP back in 1978 as a import from Switzerland. It was later issued in the UK on Rough Trade records as a single.
I love this band so much.
Lead vocal girl is my love
wow, i never heard "beri beri" before, and i very much like it!
These gals rock! x
Just found this gem. Now a huuuuuuuge fan. Wish i knew about them years ago.

That's Liliput's second vocalist, Chrigle Freund. She was in the band from 1979 to 1981. Are you sure this is from 1978?
@@KronnangDunn The SRF Archiv video identifies it as 1978 as well: ua-cam.com/video/dQfGcVFNiPg/v-deo.html

So cool Girls! Love love :)
omg this is rare to get video of bands from the 70s punk era. remember these as a kid on the Peel show.
I have this ep some where, bought it after hearing them on the John Peel show

After all these years I never even new they had made a video. Thanks.

Tomorrow I will traugen some hellblau in honor of this song.
so good, garage rock in the germanys
Such good stuff. This is a treasure.
They remind me of a early Go Go's.
I saw them on an episode of “Sprockets “
Good one 😅
Ramona would make an awesome bingo caller!! :-)
She taught me in high school!
I love this!
Pretty girls!
Beri Beri is sweet
What a brilliant band they were
"give it all - good butter" they're all grandmas now.
All your records would have to go platinum to live in Switzerland. Cost of everything is mental!

This reminds me of 1980, the year I discovered punk and new wave. Best Post punk band ever
Rallye Landi :
Me too. I was 16 at the time and all these groups from London, Paris or Berlin brought new life to R&R! What a great time!
They are ok, but second division really
This is from 1978??
I never came across them back then. Never heard of them 🤔
This is truly awful. I love it.
Ich liebe dich x

They should’ve kept Regula in the band
little 'Anne Heach on bass
German girls are the coolest!
Swiss also ;)

This is awesome. I'm on a Game of Thrones binge and for a moment I thought they were all Brienne of Tarth.

ich liebt Liliput/ Kleenex!

Musical.
These women are all probably in their 60s now and quite possibly grandmothers. Maybe they should reunite!
Phoenix85006 Not possible in an original set anymore. The one on the guitar died from cancer some years ago.
The main singer taught me in high school!
Absolutely brilliant. 100 times better than the Slits.
The Slits are also awsome, with different ingredients in the mix
Slits always sounded pretty devoid of any melody or structure to me. Prefer these.
Never heard of these before but kinda got the East German touch. Watch out for the Stasis.
I think a few Japanese bands were possibly influenced by them.
Those are some fine looking Deutsche Frauleins.
they're Swiss, not German.
@@tsartodd lol...👍

She burned one on the way over.
THIS WAS PROTO POST PUNK WHEN PUNK WAS
Oh, sorry, the drummer girl
The German Devo?
that’s most german(swiss) bands
i found this same video posted as boat song. this one must be correct. the boat song one must be wrong. i guess?
wait, just kept watching. its my two favorites. now more confused. guess thats what i get for not being german or alive.
mc5or6 ... and it's actually their distributor that keeps naming the songs incorrectly on their videos.
"Boat Song" was the incorrect title, it's the name of one of their other songs.
The singer is not Ramona (Carlier)--no way. The singer is Chrigle Freund, their second singer.

Was this filmed on video? (its very clear for 1978!)
Sounds great but i don't understand Mandarin.

In a nearly perfect song, I feel the drummer could add a little something.
I'm pretty sure that she was adding everything she could.
