Got a degree in furniture design in 1971, then went into another profession. Now back to wanting to make things as a retiree. Boy, woodworking tools have really improved over the last 4 decades. Love the small circular saws that empower just about anyone to be a builder without breaking the bank. My biggest apprehension about woodworking was the potential for bodily injury, but with these saws now have blade guards top and bottom, that risk is greatly reduced. I mostly did carved pieces, but still had to cut to get the basic size and dimensions at the beginning. Looking for a super-lightweight model, electric model that won't take up a lot of space.
So many things have changed over the years regarding portable power tools. We really are in a golden age of safety and power! Drills no longer sprain your wrist, circular saws no longer kick back. Riving knives, lithium Ion batteries and flesh-sensing technology...pretty incredible, right?

I have the Bosch. Kit came in full Bosch stacking box with three batteries and a USB charging unit for the phone. Offer I couldn't refuse. Absolutely brilliant! Wish I'd had it years ago. Hadn't realised how maybe 70% of cuts are 1" / 25mm or less. Far cleaner cut that hand saws. Made some cutting guides. Use it constantly. Got a few extra blades: 60-tooth pressed steel for perspex. Quality-wise, I think it fits between their green DIY range and the blue professional range. It feels a bit light weight and setting height and angle is a bit imprecise so takes time if it matters. My other circular saw is 110V 210mm Makita so a bit overkill for small jobs but that can double up as a table saw.
Thanks, the Bosch and Makita have saw blades that are right side cut, the others are leftside cut. Perfect for left-handers

What are cut off tools? I've never heard that term.
