This is such a beautiful song and Karen's voice makes it amazingly lovely. That it's in Gaelic makes it all the more remarkable.

For everyone who has been asking for the lyrics for this song (as well as the translation from Scottish Gaelic), here they are:
CHUIR M'ATHAIR MISE DHA'N TAIGH CHARRAIDEACH (My father sent me to the house of sorrows)
Òran luaidh ás an Eilean Sgitheanach - A waulking song from the Isle of Skye
    O bheul-aithris - Traditional
    Rann a 1 / Verse 1:
Chuir m’athair mise dha’n taigh charraideach (My father sent me to the house of sorrows)
    Hì rì huraibhi ó hó
’N oidhche sin a rinn e ’bhanais dhomh (That night when he arranged my betrothal)
O hi a bhó ró hu o hó
    Rann a 2 / Verse 2:
‘N oidhche sin a rinn e ’bhanais dhomh (That night when he arranged my betrothal)
    Hi rì huraibhi ó hó
Gur truagh, a Rìgh, nach b’e m’fhàlairidh (Such a pity, Lord, that it was not my funeral wake)
O hi a bhó ró hu o hó
    Rann a 3 / Verse 3:
Gur truagh, a Rìgh, nach b’e m’fhàlairidh (Such a pity, Lord, that it was not my funeral wake)
    Hì rì huraibhi ó hó
Man do bhrist mo làmh an t-aran dhomh (Before my hand broke the bread for myself)
O hi a bhó ró hu o hó
    Rann a 4 / Verse 4:
Man do bhrist mo làmh an t-aran dhomh (Before my hand broke the bread for myself)
    Hì rì huraibhi ó hó
Man d’rinn mo sgian biadh a ghearradh dhomh (Before my knife did cut some food for myself)
O hi a bhó ró hu o hó
    Rann a 5 / Verse 5:
Man d’rinn mo sgian biadh a ghearradh dhomh (Before my knife did cut some food for myself)
    Hì rì huraibhi ó hó
’Sheathain chridhe nan sùl socair (Darling John of the tender eyes)
O hi a bhó ró hu o hó
    Eadar-chluich / Interlude
    Rann a 6 / Verse 6:
’Sheathain chridhe nan sùl socair (Darling John of the tender eyes)
    Hì rì huraibhi ó hó
Tha do bhàta ’nochd ’sna portaibh (Your boat is at the moorings tonight)
O hi a bhó ró hu o hó
    Rann a 7 / Verse 7:
Tha do bhàta ’nochd ’sna portaibh (Your boat is at the moorings tonight)
    Hì rì huraibhi ó hó
Och, ma thà, chan eil i socair (But, if it is, it is not at rest)
O hi a bhó ró hu o hó
    Rann a 8 / Verse 8:
Och, ma thà, chan eil i socair (But, if it is, it is not at rest)
    Hì rì huraibhi ó
Ó, nach robh thu, ’ghaoil, ’na tòiseach (Oh, if only you, my love, were in its bow)
O hi a bhó ró hu o hó
(Edit: Somewhat unusually for Capercaillie’s performances of this song, I realise after listening to this particular performance that the second half of Verse 2 and the first half of Verse 3 (the line beginning “Gur truagh, a Rìgh ...”) are, on this occasion, missed out from the song. I have, however, given above the ‘full’ version of the song as Capercaillie usually sings it, as you can hear from other performances that are available on UA-cam.)

    lyrics in English::
    Hi rihurabhi o ho
My father sent me to the house of sorrow
oh hi a bas the last in our line to speak galelic.ho ro hu o ho
that night he held my wedding for me
what a pity, O king, that it wasn't my funeral party,
before my hand broke the bread for me
before the knife cut my food for me
beloved seathen of my calm eyes
your boat tonight is in port
oh if it is it won't be calm
Oh that you weren't, my love, in her bow.

i wish not only in scottish but in the whole world. I am latina (from Colombia) but i feel scottish and celtic at heart. I cannot explain the multiple feelings i experiment each time i hear songs like this, it´s like a caress to my very soul, it´s like lost memories surface again. I cry of longing of a time and place i cannot recall

@@angeramirez25 I know just how you feel. The feeling runs soul deep. If you get a chance, visit Scotland. My preference are the smaller villages along the coasts and inland as well the hills and lochs. :)

PLEASE, does anyone out there have the translation form Gaelic to English of the lyrics to this wonderfu song. I believe it is a Waulking song from the Isle of Skye. Wishing to know the history and meaning of what the lyrics tell. Much Gratitude ~
