    ===============
    Garth, Tressa, Eliza, and Ivy Bellows are experiencing something that no family should have to experience. On July 22nd their oldest daughter, Abigael, slipped under the water in the Willamette River in Eugene, Oregon, and has not been seen since. The whole family has traveled out west from Pennsylvania to help search for her and the expenses are piling up quickly. As the days go by they will need to pay for food, housing, travel, car rentals, airfare, and possibly more divers, and whatever the future holds for this journey.
    Please help ease this burden for them as they have so many other stresses right now and want their energy and focus to be on finding Abigael and bringing her home.
    Every bit helps. Thank you so much for contributing.
    ===============
    / abbsmaree
    In this episode of Adventures with Purpose, we meet up with Abigael's family on some none so fortunate circumstances as search efforts have been underway to find Abigael who was swimming in the river and never resurfaced.
    Lane County Sheriffs Office, Search and Rescue, along with dozens of volunteers have been on the river trying to find Abigael.
    We need your help!!
    If you live in Oregon... Get out to the Willamette River and start searching anywhere you can between Springfield and Portland Oregon.
    You'll see in this video that we performed an exhaustive search using sonar and diving where Abigael was last seen before going underwater.
    If you're not in Oregon, share this video and help get the word out to help Abigael's family bring her home.
    #scubadiving #missingperson
    We are humbled and thankful for this opportunity and experience to bring in helping Abigael's family.

    The moment he said, “Talk to me, honey, talk to me. Where’d did you go?” 😭
    That’s the moment he stopped being a UA-camr or a diver or a Good Samaritan and started being a father and friend to this lost girl.

    I almost drowned in an Oregon river when I was a teenager, and sadly most people here know someone who has- but it was hard to understand how easy it is until I experienced it myself. For context, I am a skilled swimmer who was even on a swim team as a kid. I leisurely swam out to the middle of the river where I could still touch the ground with my feet, enjoying the scenery and cool water, playing it safe. When I eventually decided to swim back to shore, I realized that I wasn’t getting anywhere. I tried, and tried, and tried, but I never got any closer. Even though the shore wasn’t very far, no amount of strength I used to paddle back seemed to help. As soon as I realized the situation I was in and what was happening, inside I started to panic. I wanted to call out to my friend, but I didn’t want her swimming out and just getting caught, too. It was terrifying. Luckily I eventually remembered something I had heard before, which is that if you ever get caught in a current, DO NOT FIGHT IT. Relax your body. If you struggle against it, your energy will disappear incredibly quickly and you’ll go under. I stayed as calm as I could and just did my best to stay above water, as the river slowly pushed me toward a soggy bank. I’m sure I only spent 20 or so minutes in the water, but it felt like an eternity. I had never been more thankful in my life to step over algae and bugs in order to walk my way back. Don’t fight the water. You will eventually make it to shore.

      my brother when he was young fell out of a kayak in(no life jacket,ugh) calm water and swept into swift water--i ran down the river bank and jumped in--he was in full panic mode,screaming-- i swam to him,his arms flying--i slapped him hard and held onto him-he kinda of calmed down and eventually i got him to the bank--we were lucky--the kern river takes many lives....

      I was caught in a riptide and exhausted myself trying to get back to the beach. Fortunately I was told to ride it and it will take you close to the shore so you're not fighting the current. It was crazy.

    • @jdearing46
      @jdearing46 2 роки тому +13

      100% great advice! Even on or in a lake you can have currents of a sort. My example come from floating to far out from the beach area then I was more than half way across the lake. I just relaxed and floated kicked swam my way to far shore. I then had to walk around the lake to get back to my peoples. Panic will lead to uncontrolled fear and then death.

    She was found by the boat dock. You hear him mention the boat dock, and it is interesting because that is when the mom gets upset and has to walk away...like her gut knew. It's funny because his brain said to look where she went missing at that area by the shore but his instinct told him to stay under water and let the current carry him towards the dock without preplanning. He was right by her but the river wasn't ready to release her. There must've been a greater purpose she served in that time. This guy has great instincts. So does the mom. Rip and thank you for allowing us to get to know such a bright light and caring family. Maybe that was the purpose of all of this. 🙏😢❤️

    Jared as a former diver and working on the Mississippi doing some rescues and recoveries I don't think she will be way down stream. I think if she went under and most likely stayed under she is caught on something in the first, say, 10 miles or less. Thin people don't tend to surface as well as bigger people, as you said. I also know the only way to get a true float direction would be to sink someone or something approx the same weight into that current. You showed how the current will take a person in directions unexpected. I believe she is stuck on a snag most likely where the current begins to slow allowing her to sink. I apologize for being blunt however, I too, want to be transparent.
    You Sir are an amazing man and the team you assemble is amazing!! I hope you and or other divers can spend more time helping this family. Thank you Jared for all that you do for all those in need!!!!

Her face is pale just like the picture. The head moves from side to side but it looks directly at the screen. Right. Before. The. Vine. Grabs. His. Arm. And he cuts it. The vine was trying to tell him something. I think he saw it as well and maybe got frightened. It's like he saw it then looked to the left then slowly to the right where you can see it clearly. Here's a pro tip; Never buy an all black wetsuit or dry suit. I've done a lot of diving, for pleasure and commercially. I've also worked in Search and Rescue for 14 years. I live in an area that has plenty of ship wrecks so there are lots of sport divers. We are often tasked to look for missing divers and guess what? A diver dressed all in black is hard to find! My drysuit is bright orange!
    I don't care if I look like an idiot, I'd rather be alive.
    I'm not a Navy Seal or a member of the SBS so personally I'd rather be found if I ever get into difficulties. The sea is a big place, the view from a boat is limited so unless you're lucky enough to have a helicopter searching, your chances are slim.
    P.S. The divers that we recover are usually dead, most are never found because they're still somewhere on the bottom. The trend in rebreathers has complicated this, human error or equipment error. Seen both!

    I’m so glad she’s been found. People need to be more aware of how dangerous rivers and anything with a current is. As has been stated even most experienced swimmers can drown given the right circumstances in Any body of water so always be careful. And most drownings are silent and do not “look” like drowning. My aunt lost her son Ryan even though he was a good swimmer when he drowned in their home pool (20 years ago he was 5 when he passed ) . They had set up a “fence” around the pool and he was told not to swim without supervision but he snuck out while everyone was sleeping managed to get past the “gate” (which had to have taken him a few mins) and into the pool. The theory was that he couldn’t pull himself out of the pool because there was no walk in steps and he drowned. No one knew he had gone for a swim and drownings are usually quiet so no one would have heard anything.
    It’s so important to be educated on water safety, and what active drowning looks like. Be careful in running water even Olympic swimmers can drown in rapids.
    I hope you don’t mind if you read this lol but I have a story from my childhood where learning water danger made my friends cousins and I chose “safer” places to swim it’s typed below. Not exiting but heck water safety is so important
    I lived in rural Japan in a small town with mountains on three sides that had a large river that would flood and turn clay brown whenever it rained. None of us kids ever drown in it because we were careful and lucky. Even though we’d stick to the areas where the tide was low and water came up only to maybe knee height we were lucky no one ever had issues. My cousin lost a favorite toy boat to the river when the string it was tired to snagged on something and got away. It disappeared in the rapids within seconds no one tried to go after it because we knew better. We grew up knowing how dangerously the water was but not enough to stay away. Watching the toy boat disappear in an instant scared us enough that we swam in areas not connected to the river after that. As an adult I now understand how lucky we were that the only thing lost was the boat.

    I'm sure that you all ready know this but I put out here still. They found her body 3/4 of a mile from where she went under. July 31,2020. Her family finally had got to take her home. Sad for all. Thank you so much for trying to find her. Stay safe and healthy. God bless

    Oh, I grew up in Springfield Oregon, I spent all of my summers on the McKenzie and Willamett rivers there. Swimming, Rafting, kayaking and tubing down the rivers. They can be treacherous. I hope they find her soon.

    You all are truly angels who walk this earth! The compassion you have for complete strangers is hard to find these days!! What you do is not easy and bless you and your families for allowing your time to help these people when they're at their lowest. You are very special :)
