    I´ll be moving to Berlin soon and I am watching a lot of home decor videos these days for inspiration. Your house is really clean and quite spacious.

    Are you still at Ramstein? I’m a veteran (served in the Air Force and separated to get my master’s) but I’m thinking about applying to a DoD position at Ramstein. What is off base like? I’ve been on the actual base before.

      I'm a gs employee too and a Army veteran considering applying for positions in Stuttgart or Ramstein area this year. It's time for me to leave the U.S.

      I am not! Off base is awesome, we were in Landstuhl which has restaurants, parks, bars, clubs, lounges, and the town center. The area is also about 20 minutes from Kaiserslautern, the larger city where there is so much to do, eat, see. I recommend this area so much! Best of luck!!

    Random question. Did you buy the Dyson there or did you bring it with you? I’m pcsing there in less than two months and the papers I got said it’s recommended to bring a dual voltage vacuum with you. Does it still work okay over there or are you just storing it?

    • @AlexandriaJae
      @AlexandriaJae  3 роки тому

      Hi Shelby! The Dyson runs on batteries so it is dual voltage! I bought it here at the BX, super convenient 😊

    how much is the rent

    • @AlexandriaJae
      @AlexandriaJae  3 роки тому

      Because as military members we receive a housing allowance, our rent was definitely more than market price. It was a little above 1000€.

      Bookoo is a good website. Type in bookoo/and the area

    • @AlexandriaJae
      @AlexandriaJae  3 роки тому

      Yes bookoo is great for the apartment search! I actually think I found my apartment via facebook marketplace! Do not forget about that place for your search, same for when you're looking for furniture. SO, my landlord found me and we chatted a few times before she offered me the place! She loved my profile pic of me and my husband and said it was fabulous and why she gave us the apartment!

    @Alexandra Jae. Hi Alexandria, I was born in Ramstein (Ramstein-Miesenbach now). My dad was in the US Airforce. He married a local German girl. We moved back and forth, Germany, US and Canada, quite a bit so dad had to call it quits with the Airforce. Mom always wanted to be close to her family, I don't blame her. The times we lived in Ramstein I attended German school, in Canada, and the US, of course English speaking schools, as a kid you adjust to that. I was born in the Spesbacher Strasse, where my Godmother lived. Soon after that we moved into my Grandparent's house, also in Ramstein, which had many apartments large and small. We got a small one, but it was rent free, so yeah, I'll take it! I checked that house on the internet, posted by a Real Estate Agent, years ago, I got a good look at it. It had been remodelled. The address is Schernauer St. 6a. It has a Kiosk across the street (if it's still there). It also used to take you right to the base, I don't think it would now, considering safety concern.
    Staying on the Schernauer Str. and following it to the right there is/was a large outdoor swimming pool which the Germans and Americans financed together. In the middle of the town is the old Catholic church. Right across the street is a white 3 story house. It's also a family home and some family members still live there, it's in the Landstuhler Str. 13. My mom grew up there along with a whole bunch of other family members. The house was cramped and small for all the people but that was not unusual there. The older boys and men liked to drink so you can imagine the noise and ruckus. They never fought though. A lot of people went through WWI and WWII, imagine that? But they are all gone too now. When they had a Kaffee Klatch I used to sit under the table and listen to all their stories. A man whom they called, the Uncle from America, der Onkel von Amerika, showed up one day, from where, nobody knew. I never heard them talk about his real name, but he paid for the house, across from the church, to be renovated and enlarged. Then he suddenly left again, to where?. nobody knows. This was long before my time but they talked about it, off and on, throughout the years.The house is in the Landstuhler Str. 13. Just out of interest, where do you live?
    I'm talking too much but you have no idea how nice it is to hear from someone who lives there!
    PS: You talked about the windows and doors. I remember, about 50 or so years ago, the Americans paid for all the German houses and schools to have tripple paned glass installed in the windows and glass doors. A lot of them had to be replaced all together due to age. I'm guessing that's why they are so nice? It was all due to the planes landing in Ramstein. It was pretty noisy as they flew day and night. We were directly under the flight path. You had to shut up, no matter what you were doing until the planes landed. Some of us had gotten used to it but most didn't. There were many Hercules and they are huge and noisy. They brought soldiers from war zones where they were treated in the US hospital, which is now situated in Landstuhl. Not the planes of course. You'd know that they still land in Ramstein. (am I giving away my age?)
    So Alexandra, I sure hope you like it there. I would suggest you mingle with the town's people, like when you go to bars, of which there are many, restaurants, do your groceries there as often as possible and even if you know, ask someone if they have a recipe for such and such. The people are very strict and they expect the worst from foreigners. But it doesn't take them long to soften up. Especially when they receive compliments and a few flowers now and then. That's actually the custom when you go to visit someone. Enjoy yourself!

    Hi. Thanks for the video. Got a couple of questions: (1) What areas would you recommend for off-post housing not too far away from Landstuhl? (2) Do you by any chance have US power outlets in your off-post housing? (3) Can you please share the link for the entertainment center? Thanks

    Where did you buy those shelves and storage racks in your 2nd room that you turned into a close? If I relocate I will need a lot of storage since German homes do not have walk in closets. I have a lot of clothes and shoes 😩
