I gotta say, around the halfway mark of the movie, I told my partner that they were definitely going to kill off Nateo, they introduced him as the first child, but then he never had any screen time or any lines. We never even got to know him, so idk how I was supposed to care that he died, other than by feeling the parents anger?🤷♀️
I never watched the first movie in theatres and only on laptop and I remember being so bored I fell asleep. I also watched it several times on small screen with friends and yet I still could not recall the plot at all after a few years like you said no impact. I watched the second one in theatres and enjoyed it a lot more but I think it was just for the aesthetics like you said and nothing else really. Spider also really annoyed me as a character because I felt like he kept switching sides on the down low, not being 100% loyal to anyone, and yet was still embraced by jakes family.
So I'm Alaskan, and most of the people in my life are either Native or Tongan or Samoan, so the first film I related a lot to Native culture, and the second film I related a ton to Tongan and Samoan culture. So both movies made me feel like they were telling the stories of all the people I love, and I think that's why I liked it so much and connected with it so deeply.
James Cameron is the master of 3D cinematography and Avatar is the purest and simplest example of his craft. He is the greatest visual storyteller working in Hollywood today. If you can see that or appreciate that from T2, Titanic or Avatar, you're not going enjoy The Way of Water. Cameron has great characters in Avatar. They're simple. They're natives. They're not going to have motives that we can fully understand or appreciate. You have to actually pay attention to what these characters say or do. You can find these characters within yourself. Like I said, they are very simple. The plot was about family, protecting family. The story is the world of Pandora. If you trust James Cameron to immerse you in his world and character is, you can totally appreciate both the plot and story. If you watch the movie a few times, the characters will totally grow on you. You will start to care. I really don't think you were paying attention. Theres a lot going on. Every characters motivation aside from Tuk, the youngest is very clear.
Avatar films are purely immersive visual experiences. They focus on being really great at one thing, the visuals. It is more of a nature documentary than it is a movie. Having said that I love both Avatar films. I can easily get lost in the beautiful vistas and lose sense of time. I will be watching it in 3D atleast a couple more times. Your criticisms regarding the plot and character are all valid. But I don't agree with the world building. While the aspect of world building you are focusing on (social engineering) is valid but it plays only a small part in what the film strives for. World building in Avatar films is more about the rich flora and fauna of Pandora. There was so much thought that went into designing and creating everything that fills this imaginary world. They looked so detailed that I had to keep reminding myself they weren't real. I think you were blown away by the first Avatar when you saw it as a kid because you were mesmerized and let yourself be awed. But now as an adult you want more than visuals. Nothing wrong with that but I have to say it is the wrong movie to be seeking intellectual depth. I was able to turn off the thinking part of my brain and lose myself into the beautiful immerive world of pandora. I walked into the movie expecting that same awe from the first one and I think the film delivered on that.
It's funny because when I told my partner I wanted to see it, they were shocked because I'm not into action or scifi. So we watched the first one together before going to the 2nd one, and I loved it so much more than I did the first time🤷♀️ I also left the theater saying I wanted to go again while it's still in theaters🤣🤷♀️ I did leave the theater pissed tf off at spider. Dude was just a two faced flip flopper and didn't seem to understand that his daddy is the one trying to kill his family. I'll probably never like that actor because of this character 🤣🤣🤷♀️
I found your video very relaxing to watch, because I’m so frustrated that people are praising this movie. You nailed every point that I’m unable to articulate
Yes, I'd do it to save someone I love. Especially my dog. I honestly think all the time about how I'm going to be totally lost without my dog. She has helped me more than I could ever help her (I found her tied up to a bush in a field when it was 96°F outside. It was the day after my bday, and a couple months after I had to have a hysterectomy. She's my baby.) And I just wish there was a way for her to spend my whole life with me. I know that's selfish of me though, so at the end of the day, I actually don't know. My instinct tells me yes, I'd do it, BUT only if it's what that person wanted, I'd never do it just to make things easier for me.
I’m really enjoying your new media videos. I’m super cautious abt Harry Potter videos and ur Lavender Brown one slapped. Cool content :) In the years since avatar came out: hey this is a really blatant white savior to the indigenous people who’s superior in their culture from day one- oh he also wears their skin like a Get Out Steven movieman: UH. NO :(
SciFi/Fantasy writing convention is THICC jelly Oh pandemic That writing advice is really comforting lmao I’m proud of all three of my things (characters plot worldbuilding) but they each need more work and I know how better to balance that
I would love to see that in a better story bc in the summarized context it seems like there’s just a guy somewhere making everybody’s genes start replicating worse and worse until they die 😂🤣 I’d be really interested in a movie where the _entirety_ of it is finding this being and deciding whether or not to kill it. My own ethics and the ethics in my work are to leave it alive- we are supposed to age and die, and there is beauty in our existence as individuals, as a collective, and as atoms and quarks. But also a family member who was my sanctuary and comfort and home passed recently (old age, not ideal circumstances but way closer to how he wanted to go, so that’s nice at least) and the part of me that needs him to still be there softly stepping out of his front door and waving at our car when we pull up in his driveway, and I kinda need him to still be there. A lot. Like my philosophy on death hasn’t changed but I need him back tho. So I would like adore a well done movie all about that. I’d 100% trust the Parasyte guy to make it, or Spike Lee, or The Lobster guy (that’s a surreal horror film it’s not jordan perwrson 🤣) and that’s abt it
I was furious leaving cinema after watching this movie. I felt like my brain cells were dying during the movie, that's how bad the scenario and dialogs are. It's basicly very expensive screensaver (words of some movie critics). By the way, I'm a huge fan of first Avatar.

I disagree about the racism thing, they made fun of the tree people's tails, and their hands, their legs, even the shade of their blue.
Loved this video! 💙💙💙
I think the best review of Avatar is 'for the vibes' lol 😆

I'm so fucking mad at spider.🤣🤣

I love that you finished talking about the pros of Avatar 2 by the 5-minute mark in a 20-minute video 😂
Cookie is adorable! 😍😍😍

Loved this movie.

“Even if I don’t care abt that character, I care abt the other characters around them that’re in pain” tbh based and cool
“Jake is a tribal chief” anguish
No, it is a ###### good movie😡
Great analysis on the movie!
The way this review fails in every way :’)
Imagine calling a 2 billion dollar film a failure lol
Imagine thinking success can only be valued by monetary gain
@@toddaurelius2675 ….. yea, because it is lol
2 billion dollars.
What’s your bank account look like?
So what? Deal with it.

Don’t lie…you were not a fan or the original…
@@clutchthecinnamonsergal8493 sorry to disappoint you, but I am 🤣. I also admit first Avatar already had weak story but it still worked (for me).
I loved it🤷♀️
