I'm a Vale supporter. When we played Blackpool, last game of the season 1993. First time I had been, well first time been inside the stadium. Why had the roof been removed ?
@clubkinetic1 roof was lost because of lack investment by our owners ,the start of our once great stadium were our record crowd ,of 40,000 against wolves went down the toilet ,ending up with same stadium only getting a ticket off the fire people ,for only 5,500 allowed in ground we've always had sht owners for ,last 50 years unfortunately to this day .
@@mickharrison9004 I was thinking maybe it was blown off or the salty sea air got into the metal work, but no it's the usual story. Thieving b@stards allowed ownership of football clubs. About fire regs. I think it's a travesty the South Stand was pulled down. Magnificent architecture. Should have been a listed building. Surely must be some flame-retardant paint available in the 2000's ?
@clubkinetic1 yeah we loved the south stand back in the day ,but as you said and I know your club ,can only be as good as owner let's you be all in there hands ,Germans have it sorted in law over there the fans must own 50 percent ,of there clubs so that the same can't happen with them .
My first ever match I went to I was in the kop and I loved it now I go in the north stand I was brought up a cross the road from bloom field I could the goals from my bedroom I was 8yrs old.but good video up the pool
That place was a part of my growing up. From sitting by the goal on the wall in '69 to the taking off the roof and our exodus t'scratching shed. Happy, sad and occasionally scary times but always exhilarating!
Priceless document of the old Bloomfield Road. The clip was featured in the BBC's Blackpool on Film programme but do not know where it comes from originally or who the man is.
Brilliant. I first stepped on the Kop 82/83 Season was 8. Looked a bit different. Dad took me he didn't realised it was split in half and we ended in away end but soon moved. Didn't really watch the games busy running round playing tig
My first game v Bristol City 2-0 win. Alan Suddick &Alan Skirton got the goals. The Kop could be a lively place saw a Blackburn fan arrested because he had a fairy liquid bottle full of Ammonia under a top hat and was squirring it about. Games against Bolton,Preston and Burnley were always "atmospheric " 🤣
Roof should have covered the whole kop and should have been just for pool fans ,that feeling entering the back of the kop and seeing the green base of a pitch plus the smell of cigars Happy days
From what I have read somewhere. When the roof was originally added to the existing Kop. It could not extend the whole length because it would have effectively blocked out the floodlights. If you view from 1.32 onwards you can see the legs of the floodlight tower set back and the roof line. It is the only reason I've ever come across as to why the roof did not cover the full terrace.
Not 1978, not if it was Southampton. The last game in 1978 is engraved on my heart. It was away at Brighton - we lost 2-1 but it didn't seem to matter, because we were safe from the drop, weren't we? Not quite mathematically safe, and it all went horribly wrong, and we spent the next 29 years in the bottom two divisions.
@@greenway2006 Due to the bad weather in Feb/March 77 in north west causing I believe postponed games there was a Blackpool home game that survived featured on the ITVs Sunday match but I can,t remember who against , it was a change from the usual Liverpool, Everton, man utd, man city games.
Wow so many memories my Dad took me to most home games throughout the 60’s and we always stood in the cop with one exception when Man Utd took over the whole of the cop and the police wouldn’t let us in much to my Dads disgust, that’s probably why I can’t stand Utd.
Kevin Olson, rip were Blackpool forever.
I'm here again with all the love and memories for my club on the kop, great old days we love you Blackpool we do.
As a boy i ran up them stairs to the kop with great excitement ♥️

Such fond memories .
Up the Pool .
It's a shame that the camera did not pan out to show the entire Kop.
It always looked impressive on TV.
Think it was 4 th or 5 th biggest kop in England great times 80 s blackpool fc .
What a shame that the cameras did not zoom out to show the full size of this terrace.
Pommo started the chants
POMMO OF THE KOP! Last saw him at Bury match 1984.

Best part of the ground, Let's be honest the rest of it was a dump.
