I found where Jr dumped some stuff back in the 1800s metal detecting

  • I got to the end of this old farm and started picking up signals on my metal detector. This old deserted New England farm was settled in the 1700s and abandoned in sometime in the 1800s. It has seen a lot of time and earth changes and is now all overgrown with forest. It is all about the landscape history when exploring and metal detecting old places. So out at the end of the old rock wall I started finding pottery, sheet metal and then cool relics. It looks like a little dump spot at the end of what was afield way back when. If you want to find good old places to metal detect you have to walk and walk and walk......keep your eyes open ! Sometimes you can find those hot spots nowhere near the cellar hole.

200 years ago that area was plowed farmland with houses and barns, now it’s thick forest. I don’t know why that amazes me but it does

Thanks, Charlie. As usual, a good video and some interesting finds. That cap @ 13.00, you said "grooved. That band around the outside was "knurled". A straight knurl to be more precise. There are also angled and cross-hatch knurls. These are great way to add "grip" to smooth cylindrical objects and we still do it today! Keep those videos coming!

The ox knob like cap went to a fancy ground screw cap whiskey flask, circa 1890s-1910s. I have a couple flasks with the original tops!

Trying to find my dad's wedding band that I had and lost last winter clearing snow around our apartment. Got a detector for my birthday last year. Found some things around our 1756 building thats now three apartments.

Check inside the gloves you were wearing (or where you took them off and set them).

With all the glass factories in New Hampshire,Temple,Keene, Stoddard,Lyndeboro, I am surprised you don't find more 19th century glass artifacts, bottles etc.
