Many years ago we were acquainted with Gary Atkins, Chet’s nephew. Gary learned guitar at the knee of his uncle, and had at least one of the guitars Chet had played - and wow, could Gary play! We entertained him for dinner and an evening a couple of times, and each time he gave us private concerts that were amazing. His style and repertoire were very much similar to his famous uncle, and he was a lovely person to share music with. It was a gift in so many ways. I wasn’t very knowledgeable at that time about hollow-body guitars, so I don’t remember if it was a Gretsch or a Gibson. Many of the best moments in life drift in quietly, and ephemerally leave the same way.

Talking of Steve Marriott, back in the 80s there was a TV series called 'Live from London'. One episode featured Steve Marriott's Packet of Three - you can see it on YT. It was a great gig and this is where my love for the 335 started. That and Bill Nelson's Be Bop Deluxe. Funny the things you remember.

There is no evidence Nick Drake used old, dead strings. He was fanatical about tuning accuracy, which such strings cannot achieve. Most likely he used nickels, which had a deader sound, but that is also conjecture. One thing which is known is that he never played a Guild on record. Most of his stuff was done an a D 28. The guild on the cover of Bryter Layter belonged to the photography, although Nick did borrow it (or a similar one) for at least on gig), The shoes on the cover of Bryter Layter were also the photographers, but people seeking the authentic sound have not bee able to discover how old or dead they were. Holter pickguards (US( will make a vintage pickguard to your specs in this thick material. Not cheap, but really good.

I like that you mentioned going to a roller bridge...I just put roller bridges on two Bigsby Gretches. With the stock saddles, the strings didn't move in the saddles, and you could see the bridge actually flexing. With the rollers, everything is smooth.

He moved towards embracing electronica even further, playing with found-sounds, and has never stopped including his very recognizable guitar playing. He has a signature guitar model, made by Eastwood.

I knew that adjusting the truss rod had lots of "side effects," but i never guessed it would affect intonation.
    Makes sense, though!
I'll have to give that some thought regarding my acoustic, which needs a little nudging with regard to its setup.
It's mostly good, i might level a fret and see how it goes, before touching the saddle, cuz you can't put back what you take away!
(Yeah, i know i could use a shim, or worst case make a new saddle, but I'm trying to avoid missing my actual playing time!)
Thanks for the information during your narration.
Love watching you put lots of love into the instruments. It's obvious how much your care, by the way you play them afterwards.

*This video reminded me to get started.*
My greenburst hollow body Les Paul was gouged in the green by the 3-way switch and it's deep enough to have caused wood loss.
*It's a gouge I know even someone as expertly skilled as you wouldn't have good news lol.*
My plan is to sand all the green on the front and reduce the damage depth, use a small amount of super glue to fill it, redye or stain it green, touch up the black to blend it then reclear coat it. I might even get lucky and it turn out 100% showroom finish.
*I'm determined to reach that level at this!!*

It may be that roller nuts and roller bridges serve to ensure that the tension in the string (all along it's length) is as close to equal as it can be, this should provide more tuning stability. The second law of thermodynamics applies to mechanical systems as well as thermal, just a thought.

That is a nice way to keep the strings attached to the Bigsby. Have you heard of the StringRay tool? It makes that process much easier; a hard plastic clip that sits with its own tension on the Bigsby, holding the strings for you. No need to wedge wood against the guitar body.

      Two methods.
      On the belt sander.
Put a stop of about 4mm(5/32") in the vice jaws. Support the pencil in the gap against the 4mm stop. Plane off half the pencil.
I use my short old pencils . If you use a long pencil it is okay to cut an angled flat section so long as the lead is there at the end. That may be easier.

Some '69 Gibsons still had the adjustable bridge (I had one for a long time), so that doesn't preclude this from being a '69. OTOH, another reason to think this is a 66 is that 69 j-45's are square shouldered. But transitions, transitions, transitions ... My vote goes for it being a transitional early '69.

I keep telling him to stop doing that cuz you can twist the neck, uneven strings tension will cause the necks to twist. he won't listen to me, anyway I've been keeping it nice and tuned and it plays fine the actions good slowly but surely the neck has straightened itself out😮

All my guitars have zero frets and I will never go back to plastic or even bone nuts.
IMHO a nut should be just for spacing the strings apart and the zero fret is where the open strings should play from
