This made me LOL. Over 30 years ago and a newly arrived immigrant, i was invited to a relative’s summer wedding. Short on cash, I found a dress on the $10 rack at Sears. Did pretty much what she did except my hair was up in a french roll. Practically turned heads that day. Still have the dress hanging at the back of the closet and earrings. Kept it to remind me of all the compliments I received that day on just $10. My ‘cheap as chips’ moment.

Zipper on side but you had to get into the dress head first. The squared bodice is similar to ones worn by Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana. It was in navy blue with while polka dots, not so fashionable now. If you can picture the brown and white polka dot dress worn by JuliaRoberts in Pretty Woman but navy instead. Can’t seem to part with it although it no longer fits.
A petticoat is great for those dresses that are so transparent that you can't wear them and still look nice. People should admire how you look pretty in the dress instead of how much they can see your underwear and your legs. Petticoats always.

Being a senior citizen I'm always amazed how many women don't wear slips or petticoats under their dresses. Proper undergarments can transform clothes.
My mother tries to get me to wear them but (no offense) they make me feel too mature.. especially since the style now is kind of 'put on a slip dress and throw a leather jacket over it'

Never stopped even had a friend who is a tailor make me lace and eyelet full and half slips in 3 lengths. Camisoles and full slips. Foundation garments elevation every clothes price range. And a collection of textured tights.
Yes it might be a good idea but it doesn’t really do anything all that special for this dress. I like the way it moves better before. More flowing. But the lace the bottom could be cute (although doesn’t really truly match the style of the dress)
As a fat person I can assure you that is not true. What is important when you are a bigger person is adding structure and understanding your shape. I have a natural hour glass shape so for me a cut belt and layering makes a world of difference. I have friends that have big hips but no titties so they make a point of adding interest like ruffled tops to fill out dresses when they are baggy up there. It's all about accessorizing.
I'd love to see more of this. How to make inexpensive clothes look more elevated. Or how to make dated clothes look more modern. (It helps us thrift/vintage shoppers)

Honestly, I love getting dresses with wacky patterns and colors cause I always put a black 'crop' top turtle neck sweater with cap sleeves. It always makes them look elegant and high fashion and lets me pair it with my black heels.
