  • Let's continue working our way through the parts of speech in Latin. With nouns covered, let's talk about verbs. The inflection for verbs, or conjugation, is very complicated, and dreaded by most students. But don't worry, we aren't going to go too crazy yet, let's just talk about the very basics: person, number, tense, mood, voice, and transitive/intransitive. Let's define these concepts now so that learning conjugations later will make more sense!

I just found your channel and I'm pleasantly surprised that you're a latinist. Latin is an absolutely fascinating language.

Yes, Latin is indeed an inflective language. This means that words change their form to indicate grammatical relationships, such as tense, case, gender, and number. This feature is common in many classical languages, including Latin. 👍✅ 🙏 proffesor Dave

I don't want to be the grammar police but I think it's "professor", not "proffesor"

@@theangrysuchomimus5163 I don't want to be the arbiter of technically correct, but wouldn't that make you the vocabulary police, not the grammar police?

Latin is such an interesting language given its ubiquitous presence in scientific terminologies. (such as medical, taxonomic, and other branches of science) It's great to see how Latin still has an importance in the 21st century given its historical influence. Keep up the great work Prof. Dave!

I absolutely _love_ this series! It's been the longest time since I went back Latin, and your series has really given me the crash course I needed. It's really amazing how Latin being the root of so many romance languages means that learning ones makes it easy to learn Latin. On the other hand, starting with Latin acts like a Rosetta stone that helps you unlock other languages faster. Really glad I put in some effort to learn my Spanish verb conjugations! Thanks for your good work!

I studied Latin at High Scholl for 5 years. I was no good at it but the teacher always gave me 51% because he liked me. I recall the first thing we learnt -- mensa mensas mensat etc.🙂

I was amazed at the complexity… but then as a native French speaker I realized… yep, the normal stuff. Nice to know you are into many different things.

Hey man. I'm losing it. My sanity is all gone. I have to ask you, are you by chance the Dave Grohl, legendary drummer of Nirvana and frontman of the Foo Fighters? Your name is dave, and you look a lot like him. I'm not crazy I swear.
