It's always amazed me how Dave still delivers even this drugged out. He even remembers the lyrics to all the songs. - A lot of artists completely fails live, when they came to that stage in life.
Today is the one year anniversary of Andy Fletcher's death. I had the honor of meeting this impressive looking English guy in person. He signed the Delta Machine album for me, we had a cigarette together. He was nice and kind. Honor to his memory. For Fletch's day, he couldn't have chosen a better song than the song that was his most favorite.❤
Devotional is lifetime experience. Alan's arrangement of live tracks is so innovative, they sound so powerfull and fresh till now. When I watch your reactions I'm back in my fifteen 😂 Keep going 😉
Vocals have more complex resonance live. Voice was perfect here. Album version amazing but tinny in comparison. My take is he perfected it with all the live performances leading to this captured show. This particular performance timeless masterpiece.
Based around the Oil Tank Mix, Alan did an stellar job adapting it to the live environment, you missed the first 5 seconds actually (the weird voice of the bridge starts the song)... i'm a very limited keyboard player (very very amateur) but i can tell you, this particular version has a power of its own... feels very different to any other one when you play those strings....power, i can't say any different...
THIS! The synthpatches that DM used/made were and still are incredible. My favorite one is the brass-synth that plays on the first 2 chords of the chorus, its just so majestic and LOUD.
I’m late but just wanted to say Happy Birthday to Andy. He would’ve been 62. Fletch has always been my favourite member, it’s a shame he left us to early. May he have a happy celebration up there
Thanks for your nice UA-cam movies, Seph. This is Andy’s favourite song. I got to meet Andy way back when everyone thought Depeche Mode was over after Dave's CPR. It was in the streets of Groningen (Netherlands) during the opening of an exhibition by Anton Corbijn (then "5th band member"). He was very accessible and nice, and when I asked if they were still a band he replied that they were going to record a new album. First hand news :-) Andy was the backbone (glue) of the band! Do not underestimate his power in the band. Without Andy Depeche Mode wouldn’t exist for a long long time. The Devotional concert will get even better 😉 Look at the stage, the films, the big “metal men”. All designed by Anton Corbijn, also down to earth as Andy was. 😎 and Dutch as I am 🇳🇱
This live track has elements from one of the 12” remixes called mayhem mode mix plus the weird “let me take you on a trip” voice from the “dub in my eyes” mix. It’s a great combo live
For me the intro to the World Violation tour (Kaleid + World in my Eyes) as captured on a few videos is the best version of the song... but this is pretty good too ;)
154 concerts in total between the two Tours, from 19 May 1993 to 20 December 1993, then 9 February 1994 to 9 July 1994. So that should tell you why it almost killed them.
Lot's of these songs have extended versions and remixes, (that are amazing) so you will experience musical parts that don't appear on the album versions. It's what makes live performances extra special for lots of artists and fans, hearing something new and "extra" rather than a straight replica of a track.
I think it's only 2-3 performances stitched together, Seph. They wouldn't have had such a large number of cameras at every show. It is the pinnacle of DM shows, but all their tours are great and the latest one for MM is up there. Love the reactions, keep going!
Oh man, what a version😍 I remeber well on the massive bass on minute 5, incredible🙈 Thanks seph😎 When people say, this was the best. Then they mean probably more the hole show itself. The screens, the versions of the songs… Daves performance changed in the future tours, but i personally think he got better on every tour😊
Hi... this performance was amazing...!!! Whith triis song Dave always do sexys moves... this is one of my favorite songs.. and wait for the next sorprises
I believe that’s a misunderstanding- The DVD is not a bunch of songs from different concerts. It’s one concert and has footage from one or two other performances: Barcelona, Frankfurt and I don’t remember lol - I think the confusion comes from The Songs of Faith and Devotion Live CD, that compiles separate live versions of each song from the album in the exact same order.
They brought this song back for the current tour, though not this version. It was Andy's favorite song, so while they're playing this song, on the screen behind the band is a huge black and white photo of Andy. Since he died, I always feel sad when I hear this song.
"Ahhh! We actually get a close up of Martin! How long did that take?! Two songs, I believe! It's a travesty! It's a travesty, man!" (1:26) This show is really great with amazing footage of Dave singing and dancing, but as you point out, it really suffers from the lack of close-ups of Martin and Alan, particularly from an angle in which you can actually see them playing their keyboards, which are some of my favorite moments from the Hamburg and Pasadena live shows. Anton really dropped the ball on this one in that respect. I saw the Dave butt gyrations coming and knew you'd be right there with me to have a good chuckle! "No, it's too early in the song, man!" (3:00)
I love the album version but i love even more that they put the effort to change all the songs live. And then you have the remix version so its much to love but in different ways
I don’t know if anyone mentioned this but the screens on the stage level were large video screens and above where Martin, Fletch and Alan were there was a huge film screen. Wait until you get to songs where they have the visuals on all those screens. It was really a sight to behold. I can’t imagine all the people it took to set up and take down all that equipment from city to city and country to country.
This version is great! But I still prefer the album version. It is more compact and the song's characteristic "synth loop" after the choruses fits better and is more "direct" etc. This version of "world in my eyes" was introduced live with the devotional tour. Before that, during the "world violation tour" the original version was used - and the performance during that tour is reflected in the music video for the song. If I were to play the song for someone who has never heard it, I would definitely choose the album version.
This ❤ this live version of World in my eyes. I did see them in concert in the beginning of the year and this song sounded different. I will actually see them again in December of this year 🙌🏼 and I’m so excited beyond words. 🫶🏼DM🫶🏼 by the way I love your custom made t-shirt. I would gladly wear it at the next DM concert. Just saying.☺️
Seph - As a life-time fan I can say this tour was the darkest time ever they had and the only moments they were together during this tour was onstage. They had their private-rooms, private-cars private this and that. They were all using dirrefent chemicals and that was no good. Fletch had to quit touring before it was finished ´cause of a nervous-breakdown. Almost everything but the music was in bad shape. That's the one reason this live-documentary is so fu**ing awesome... And quite scary as well. On of the most beautiful performances EVER in rock-music history.
If you pay close attention to the mixing, you can hear Martin at thr left and Alan at the right in almost every song (was already the case in policy of truth). That's why some sung part sounds fullier (here the verses). For those who are interested, stay focused on the right channel during the others songs.
there is alot to say about this live setup in sound, everything is superb , Alan did a perfect job with this , Drums are so cool in sound compared to the live shows they do now ( not saying Christian cant play ) but the sound of the drums now are flat and not sounding good in my ear´s and all the atphmosphere is gone too (so is alan )
It's always amazed me how Dave still delivers even this drugged out. He even remembers the lyrics to all the songs. - A lot of artists completely fails live, when they came to that stage in life.
Another great mix of the song done for the live version by Alan.
Ahhh! So it was a mix!? I had a suspicion it was but wasn't 100%
@@SephPlays Yes he toyed with this one, it borrowed a few things from an official remix but also had its own uniqueness for the concert version.
@@TimothySmiths Im looking forward to hearing some official remixes 😃

That's not correct, Andy passed away on 26 May 2022. Today would have been Andy's 62nd birthday (8 July 1961). RIP Fletch
@@chacojocko oh ya sorry today it's Andy Birthday

This is the single best live version of any Depeche Mode song ever performed.
This is my favorite DM song, hands down.
Gets even better with Martin coming out playing guitar, two female backing singers and Alan coming out to play live acoustic drums
Oh Seph ... You are in for a treat when they get to Everything Counts

I would of loved to see this tour 🎶🌹🖤
OMG SAME!
And I can remember how it sounded live...I lost my mind :)
I bet you did!!! Lucky! Jealous of you right now haha
Last Tour in Full Team...... Pure Class......

It was recorded in Frankfurt, Germany. I was there…😎
This particular one?
Yes, shows were recorded in Frankfurt, Lielle and Barcelona but compared with bootleg recordings the most of this dvd was taken from Frankfurt

I love the real snare sound on this one.
Hard to decide.. i love both versions very much.
DM Albums have always just been a preview of the way they will play them live.
I seen them on that tour in Dublin 1994. What a show. I'll never forget it.

It got to expensive and they scaled back dramatically for the second leg call the Exotic Tour.

I love back then because the songs matched the current sound of the latest album. Since ultra the sounds are generic. Reason ..no Allan. oh well
The intro, voice thing is way better then the album.
amazing, nice performance

Love this version but my favorite vesion is the Cicada mix!
double like
