I just made this upgrade/repair today. This is DEFINITELY the problem with these diffs. It’s mind boggling how ARRMA can’t see what’s needed. They send me shims that weren’t even the right fix.

Very good info and thanks for sharing here! ‘BashingBrian’ from the Arrma Forums also did this a few weeks ago and I followed suit. I’ve put six 6s packs through mine and it has been bulletproof. No probs whatsoever....loving it!!!! However 12x18mm shims (0.3, 0.5 & 1.0mm thick) were used and they completely cover the area behind the sun gears by providing a perfect fit and maximum support.

Awesome video sir, thanks for this. I have a Kraton 6s RTR but am considering buying a Kraton EXB to experiment with adding my own ESC and motor set up for the first time instead of buying RTR. The diff issues I have seen and heard about have put me off a little bit but this video at least lets me know there is a way to get the thing to be reliable. In my opinion though it should not be up to us, the customer, to get involved in spending money, waiting for parts and then stripping down a brand new model to prevent part failures from normal use of the product from the manufacturer.
That said, I saw one other video recently where an owner added a locked spool / block to the rear diff to at least get his EXB running and get some use out of it and although that is not an option I would personally consider I did wonder what your thoughts would be on installing a locked spool to the centre diff of a Kraton or Outcast 6s which most people use 500k diff oil or silicon plugs to practically lock it anyway.

I know of people who are still waiting on their warranty replacement diffs. We shouldn’t have to be playing armchair engineer to fix an obvious design flaw from Arma. Diff problems have plagued their rigs for some time now....going back to early version Outcast’s that needed the diffs to be shimmed out of the box. When putting back together I put the shims behind the pin back in the order they came out 2x large first then the small shim next to the pin. If you look at the diagram in the manual for the rear differential it has the shims all mixed up. It shows the small shims but the part number is for the larger shim dimensions and vise versa. So Arrma have brought out yet another version with major problems straight away - great video - u solved my diff problem on my v4 with your othet shimming vid ! Thanks bud it was annoying te hell out of me hearing that grinding. Can i pick your brain ? I would (as im sure many kraton owners would) like to know just how much of the new EXB parts will go onto a Normal v4 6s Kraton. I see the gp4 crown n pinion fit but what about all the safe d stuff and bulkhead size etc? Modelshops show non compatible but to me it looks like it will fit. Can u help pls mate ? I basically want EXB drivetrain in my v4

Cheers man, I'm glad there helping.
Right I dont have an exb, just the diff but here is what I know.
The diffs and pinion will go into the old housing fine. But I think you need complete diffs as the diff cups are smaller and the V4 wont fit onto the crown gear. (Someone please correct me if I'm wrong).
The chassis is a straight swap, arms are slightly different but should swap. Towers are different (rear more like mojave I believe) but again will swap. If I'm honest and you upgrading your V4 the front and rear diff and pinion is all that I would use EXB for the rest I would stick to M2C etc as they are stronger than the exb one already.
I hope that answers your question

HI what kind of diff fluid are you using now when you shim it. you said 30k on your can i use 10k ? or i should use 30k? its not gonna effect the diff to much is it? making more bullet proof or less ? i would assume 50k is too heavy ?
