That lens is purple fringing city, very noticeable on the outdoor photo at 5:42 this is why I use the 50/1.2 way more than the APO 50. What the APO 50 has is excellent color rendition and microcontrast

The indoor photo at 7:10 was taken with my Q3. Did you notice any fringing on the outdoor photos? (4:42-6:01)

@@sc1then you are misleading your viewer, talking about a 50 APO and showing "close up images" with it while using Q3 images .... S-M-R-T smart...

@@PatrickColpronno, all of the outdoor photos AND close-up outdoor images WERE taken on the 50 APO on the M11. Only the last indoor images you mentioned at around 7:10 were taken on the Q3. The 50 APO lens was pictured. I couldn’t use the lens to take a picture of itself!

@@sc1 Shoot you had me take a second look, not 7:10, but at 5:42 outdoor photo, I definitely meant outdoor and was talking about the metal bug sculpture. I do have a Leica 50 APO, it is a purple fringing monster, not as bad as the 35 Summilux FLE, just slightly better. You should really test it on a sunny day, you might be surprised at the purple fringing it has. Earlier batches of the lens were even worse than newer made lenses. If I was to hazard a guess, it will probably be one of the next lenses in the Leica lineup to get redone and improved with close focus capabilities.

I see it now when zooming in on the bee sculpture antennae. I was able to remove the purple in Lightroom without any difficulty.

Thank you for another really good review! Please do a review of this on your MP! I would love to see how it renders on film!

I just shot a roll of Kodak Portra on my MP using the 35 APO. It will take 1-2 weeks for me to get the results but I’m interested to find out.

I strongly recommend using the plastic cap. The cap will get dropped and/or scuff your lens. I get what Leica was going for but the free plastic cap is them suggesting you use that, as well

The Voigtlander 50mm f2 apo lanthar is rather incredible with beautiful colour and contrast/sharpness. Just a bit cheaper and probably unnoticeable difference . I adapt to a s1r and results are beautiful.

Nice! 35mm is my favorite too! Yeah, sell the 75 if it’s not calling to you.

I lean to 35. But 28 and 50 are good for a secondary focal length.
43 on the Q3 is intriguing. Blending 35 with 50. I’ll post a unboxing video on this soon.

Did you sell your Summilux-M 50? I have the latest version with close-focusing capability, and it’s stunning. I also have both 50 mm Noctilux lenses, but will also get the APO-Summicron next year.

    • @sc1
      @sc1  2 місяці тому

Yes, I sold the 50 Summilux since I did not want to have two 50’s. I just have the 28-35-50-75. Thinking about selling the 75. When I have too many lens, I get decision paralysis. (I end up obsessing about which lens to bring with me)

@@sc1 If you get a 90 mm M lens, e.g., APO-Summicron, Summicron, Elmarit (used), or the Macro-Elmar, and don’t want to have lots of glass sitting at home, then the 75 might be superfluous. I have three M 75 lenses: Leica Noctilux f/1.25 (stunning lens), Leica Summarit f/2.4 (compact, very good IQ), and a Voigtländer Nokton f/1.5 (compact, lightweight, highly capable, and relatively inexpensive).
That said, obsession is a matter of degree. I currently have 23 M lenses (21 Leica, 2 Voigtländer), and 4 LTM lenses with LTM to M adapters (2 Leica, 1 Voigtländer, 1 Nikkor), and am in the process of cataloging them by their rendering character. So far, I can see a use for all of them. I recently learned that someone who frequents the same Leica store I do has ~ 150 Leica lenses. I didn’t feel so guilty after hearing that!
Regarding lens choice, I try to decide what I want to shoot and take one lens out that day. If a subject begs for a different lens, I keep a note on that but try to get a shot with the chosen lens anyway. Sometimes, I take two lenses.

@@sc1curious, where do you usually sell/trade your gear for upgrades. I would like to trade up to the 50 APO from a fairly new Lux, but it’s at least a 20-25% hit.

The packaging back in 2013 was not this big. I had mine for over 11 years. My most often used M lens. Enjoy

Whilst I have the 90mm F2 APO - widely regarded as the best portrait lens ever made - some doubt on that by me - I love the 50mm 1.4 and do not see the need for change - but congrats - it will be a great lens for sure - a real keeper
