The academy has been a real positive in what's been a depressing time for United. I've certainly enjoyed watching the under 18 matches far more than the first team of late. Kukonki has looked very impressive this season and really looking forward to seeing him given a chance for the seniors. The scary thing is he's a huge unit now but hasn't finished growing yet!!!
Kobbie, Garna (OK, we bought him but I'm still counting him lol), Amir, Amass, Lacey, Kukonki...the academy has been producing some serious talent in recent years. Not everyone will make it of course but one of the reasons I favour keeping EtH is because he gives young players a chance and if he thinks they're good enough has no problem throwing them into the team (though you can argue that he might overplay Mainoo and Garna).

Point is, don’t get carried away with a big kid’s abilities at that age when they’re not playing against fully grown men.
Despite his physicality, the thing he has as well is ball playing ability and is comfortable on the ball, so that alone makes him a top potential player. The physicality is just a bonus and is the reason why hes playing 21s football at 16. Hes taller than van Dijk ffs and plays like Lisandro…
My fear with all of these promising youngster is the desperation of the fans, media and coaching staff for the first team to succeed. I really hope its doest overwhelm the current first teamers like Mainoo and Guancho, never mind the current under 18s players
Im hoping one of the big changes with the new backroom staff is the use of their contacts to find proper european clubs to send our talented youth players on loan. Apart from the few stand outs, it has been disappointing to see a lot of our youngsters not getting the right moves
no need to make buzz about academy players, let them grow ,let them develope in silence without any pressure or attention. thats good for young players.
Heard the same talk with mengi and tuanzebe, what top centre backs come through an elite clubs academy and go straight in the team? Young centre backs are generally not good enough because that position relies so heavily on experience and reading the game. They need time at a smaller club and then go straight in the first team
Who else remembers Howson comparing Chong and Fosu Mensah to Gullit and Vieira 😂😂😂. People need to stop taking youth games as a serious indication of ability. There are people who blitz record numbers in youth games but never carry it to first team football which is an entirely different kettle of fish
How did you not include Harry Amass on that list? I'm baffled how he hasn't already had game time last season when he was the best natural LB that was fit, he got on bench a few times and there was opportunities to at least bring him and have a look at him

Kwambala was never good...he would never make it at manutd. He was wayyy to rush for a defender. Diving into tackles for no reason. His passing was very average as well. Then his injury recoed😮

Thing is Kukonki is 6’5 and is left footed, which is a very rare profile. Plus he can pass very very well unlike Tuanzebe and Mengi.
