    I pickle carrots (hot brine, no canning). They are vinegary and crisp, love them.

    Great deal on those veggies! I wish the stores near me would run that deal. While you were unpacking your haul all I could think about was making Borsht. All that was missing was beets. It is my husbands favorite soup.

      @SnowGardener  17 днів тому

      I have never made Borsht....I am not a beet lover. Hahaha!! I have never cooked anything with beets.

    One of my goals is to can more this year. Last year my garden did terrible. We had record breaking heat. One day was 119. It fried my garden and killed one of my chickens. Hoping this year will be different. Can't wait to see your canning and cooking videos. Helps me stat motivated. 😊

      I am so sorry to hear about your garden and chicken last year! Hopefully this year will be better! I have high hopes to have a good garden this year. I deal with the opposite problem you have...freezes and a short season with no first frost date.

    I made a cabbage based meal this week too! I tried to make Runzas but overproofed my yeast dough. LOL! So I made runza casserole and used the dough as a top crust. Then I turned around and ate way more than I should have. 😂

      @SnowGardener  24 дні тому +1

      Oh no! I have been there with overproofed dough! I love runzas though! I bet that turned out delicious! 😁😁😁

      Eggs are now $7.99 a sudden. Yikes! I just made the cabbage recipe tonight. I didn't film it but here is the simple directions my MIL gave me. 1.5-2 lbs ground beef, 1 large onion, 5-7 garlic cloves, 1 package onion soup mix, salt and pepper to taste. Cook the beef and onion until beef is done. Add the rest of the ingredients and cook until cabbage is done to your taste. If there is a bunch of fat in your beef drain some of it off, but leave some for flavor.

    Can you talk more about the $10 produce bag? We don’t have those where I am.. is it whatever you can fit in the bag? Is it regular produce or seconds? I’m so intrigued!!

    • @SnowGardener
      @SnowGardener  24 дні тому +1

      The produce bags are such a great deal. There are certain fruits and veggies that are included depending on the season. Yes, it is a much as you can fit in the bag and no it isn't servings or anything. I love it when they have the $10 bags. I did notice the bags are a little bit smaller than they used to be. So excited to get some canned carrots done this week! 😁😁

      @SnowGardener That is super. We get $1-$2 bags at Woodman's by us. But they are already filled. Sometimes it's a great deal. Other times it's expensive compost.

    Have you and your husband thought about getting some chickens so you always have eggs? I rarely buy eggs, but last time I did I about had a cow right there in the supermarket. $9 for a dozen eggs is what I found. What the hecko? 😳

    • @SnowGardener
      @SnowGardener  24 дні тому

      We have thought about chickens but our town lot is pretty small. It may be something we decide to do, but provisions not this year.

    🫂💜 I buy fresh fruits and veggies and freeze them myself for the winter. Buying bags of frozen isn't worth $10-$12 for not even half of what I can buy fresh. I need more ideas for smoothies. 🥚 are $4.19 for 12 large cage free. Salted 🧈 is on sale this week for $4.99. I have a rain check for 12 salted 🧈 from early December for only $2.99 each. I normally wouldn't buy that much at once. For that price I couldn't pass it up. My husband uses a 1/2 stick of 🧈 for each bowl of 🍿. He normally has 1-2 bowls a night.

    • @SnowGardener
      @SnowGardener  24 дні тому

      That is a great idea for your fruits and veggies! Glad you have that raincheck for the butter. when i butter was $2.99 I could buy a max of 5. I like to have 20lbs of butter in my fridge and $3 is my stock up price. That's a lot of popcorn!
