I lived in oberammergau for 3 years and went to garmisch practically every weekend. I've been to eibsee countless times, and if you go during the off-season, you are literally alone with your own thoughts and the beautiful nature that envelopes you.
You can have your cake and bier back in garmisch in any of its hundreds of pubs.
I’m not convinced Eibsee has an off season anymore.
@NearFromHome you may be right... I lived there in the mid 80s 🤣🤣🤣
Think I found my new travel UA-camrs! Am planning a trip to Munich along with day trips and your videos are super helpful. Really like the candid advice and discussion at the end of each video too. Keep it up, you two! ♥️
Thanks so much! 🥰 glad to help
Thanks!
:)
Whoa, No beer and cake? I'm going to have to rethink this one! LOL, Going there next year with my buddies for a bike and hike trough Germany and Austria. Thanks for your video. Can't wait to see the lake!
Lol, ikr. The trip felt so empty without it. 😅 Hope you have a nice trip. It’s really wonderful!
Thanks for this awesome bike ride recommendation. Since I am planning bicycle trips in Europe, I can now include this on my itinerary. You definitely make Germany more interesting.
Cool! I hope you have a nice time. We have been wanting to do a bike tour from Salzburg to Venice for a while now. Maybe we'll make it happen in 2023
I think the quality of the camera work is outstanding...! Oh and the news with the cat at the end..! Brilliant..!
I've been working on it! Though the North Bank of Eibsee is essentially shooting pics in a barrel, hard to go wrong.
When I was there a couple of years ago, I took the train from Munchen to Grainau - you have to walk about 800m to the town, but what a beautiful walk it was. I love this part of Germany. The walk back from Eibsee to Grainau through the forest, with all the little lakes is beautiful.
It really is!
Thank you for another video with detailed information. Keep up the great work!
Thanks so much!! :)
I was there today (July 6th) and it looks a MILLION times better than in your videos. On all sides aka south bank was mesmorizing too. I think it depends on the angle and intensity of the sun which influences how the water color looks. So in the SUMMERTIME the whole lake looks like the carribean and 360° degrees around I could not stop taking pictues. So bottom line: it is worth the hype in the summertime!!!! :-)
I think I might still have to respectfully disagree ;) lol. Eibsee is cool for sure, but compared to all the others I’ve been to it’s not in my top 5. I do think it’s a great jumping off point to inspire some deeper exploration though. My latest series that I’m editing now is all about the Lake District of Austria, so if you are looking for some unique lake trips this summer then stick around as I’ve found some gems.
I did the hike around the Eibsee in early May before enjoying a beer at the Biergarten! WOW is all I can say!
I know right! it's great!
Just found your channel and it has been enormously helpful in planning a trip to Bavaria. Thank you so much for all the great info
Thanks so much! :D We also have more resources on www.thatch.co/@NearFromHome
:D
Thanks for the tip! My son and I walked counter clockwise to avoid the crush of other visitors. The bus from GP was PACKED as today is the feast of Corpus Christi.
:)
Yeah it gets SO crowded on holidays and the weekends
That drone footage is fantastic!
ohhhh, why thank you.
I agree with u, the north shore is a stunner😍I think Eibsee is great for taking pictures, but Tegernese is my favourite as you have a lot more trails and things to do around it😁 I personally like Hintersee as well😉love your videos guys, hubbie and I went to Weltenburg Kloster last weeeknd based on your video, sadly the restaurant was closed but the panoramic view from above was great!!!
I agree with all three of those lake opinions. We even made a Tegernsee video over the summer. :D We went to Hintersee as well, but ended up not making a video about it. It was beautiful nonetheless.
Glad you went to Weltenburg! You'll have the return for the food. It's really excellent.
Perfect Channel, Perfect Video, Perfect Nature
awww thanks so much! :D
Hello! You've inspired me to try this for myself, would you mind sharing a google link to the path you used? I know you shared an image of it but it is a bit hard to follow in detail and I need all the help I can get! Thanks for sharing, what a wonderful adventure and well put together vlog :)
Ich freue mich schon auf dein nächstes Video.
:)
Been there last winter and will go back on spring or summer soon, im missing it now😍
:D It's amazing how beautiful it is in all seasons.
Fantastic video! Really helpful. Did you two end up biking on the way back or is there a way to drop the bikes off near Eibsee? Because that sounds quite tiring after biking all the way there + the walk around the lake.
We biked back down, with e-bikes I wouldn’t say it was tiring at all. Even with regular bikes the return journey wouldn’t be so bad because it’s downhill the whole way.
Hi thanks for sharing this video, vositimh garmisch in May . Other than bike, how else can you come to this lake from the train station at garmisch?
Bus or the Zugspitzbahn!
Outstanding video bro. Thanks for the great impressions. 😀👍
Thanks so much!
I want to ride bike to eisbee but want to go up Zugspitze. Is there a place to ditch bike that won't get stolen?
We locked ours up on a metal fence in front of Eibsee! It was fine
@@NearFromHome thank you
I like yr video I will do day trip from Munich is Bavaria ticket include train to Garmisch?! Or need buy new ticket!! And another question bus from Garmisch to eibsee every day !!
Yes! All public transport except ICE trains are covered in Bavaria under the Bayern ticket. The bus to Eibsee runs everyday, every hour ( i think. double check on google maps)
In what part of October was this filmed? I am trying to gauge the timing of fall color in the area. Thanks!
I think near the end. I remember this being the last nice-ish day we could have filmed this, as it was already quite cold.
@@NearFromHome Thanks, love the detailed videos!
@@GlennKroeger :)
Hi, which time of the year did you go on this video? Also, how do you think June or July would like?
We went in October. It was basically the last weekend warm enough. June and July will be really nice. You could go swimming. It will be very crowded though. Be prepared for crowded buses and trains.
@@NearFromHome Thank you for the reply! Your channel has been really helpful on my research for my trip to Bavaria!
@@mohamed_sadaf :)
Pretty Good video on Eibsee Lake.. In which month did you shoot this video?
We were there in October!
I"ve been planning my trip to Munich using your videos. Do you think this bike ride is possible with a 3 year old kid for people who haven't ridden bikes in 15+ years? Do these e-bike shops rent out trailers for children? Are there bathrooms in route (child is potty training...makes for a tough vacation!)
Honestly I’m not sure. I’ve never had to travel with a child so I lack the perspective. You could definitely call the bike shop and ask about child trailers. They aren’t uncommon in the area, but I’ve never paid attention to whether you could rent them. I wouldn’t expect toilets along the way, not at the drop of the hat, but there are some wooded sections and if you go by a restaurant that’s open then you’ll have some options.
What would you consider the best lake
We really like Tegernsee, Schliersee, and Schrecksee!
@NearFromHome ill look into those. My brother is marrying a German citizen and having a party in munich. Doing a day for oktoberfest. And then I'll have 3 free days. Munich seems boring so just want to spend 3 days out in nature. Thinking day 1 mittenwald. Day 2 eisbee/garmisch/wank
Day 3 I'm undecided
Is it possible to walk from Garmisch to Eibsee? Google says it's a 2 hour walk but wouldn't mind if it's nice scenerary along the way.
I think so. It might taken longer than 2 hours, as there is some elevation near the end of the trail. I do think a bike is a better use of time.
I gone last summer, beautifull lake, but there is a lot of people during hot days. If you don't go very early before 9h30 AM you don't find place where you can sit arround the lake.
I can totally imagine that. If we end up gong in the summer, we will keep that in mind. :D
What month did you go. I'm going in early October. Will trees be orange
We went in late October. I think the trees should be changing in early October
@@NearFromHome awesome where I live leaves don't change color so would be magical to see that
What hotel are you referring to?
Really enjoy your videos and what you share! This will be very helpful for my wife and I as we are staying in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in May. On your bike trip, was it easy to store your bike and where did you find a place? We are debating between a Vespa and E-bike. Do the rental places include helmets? Thank you!
I’d go with the e-bike over a Vespa any day. With a scooter you’ll be stuck on the roads with the cars, on an e-bike you’ll be on trails in the fields. Incomparable if you ask me :) and yes they have helmets and everything you’ll need…..except GoPro mounts :(
@@NearFromHome Danke!
@@NearFromHome and for the E-bike parking? Any hints?
Can you also ride “around” the lake with a bicycle?
Pretty sure you can. If I remember correctly, the trail is flat and gravel.
where do you rent the bike close to garmisch-partenkirchen station?
The one I show in the video isn’t too far, over near Partenkirchen.
Hello !
Would you know where is time 3:06?
Hi, I'm not really sure what you mean specifically!
Do you have to wear helmets for this trail?
I am not sure if you have to, and the bike shop owner didn't say anything.
Is this lake easy to walk around? We have a baby and we wanna go here :)
I would say so. The entire path around the lake is flat, crushed gravel. I don't think it would be too difficult with a baby sling. It might also be popular with a pram. but I can't quite remember if there are any roots that would pack pushing difficult. :)
Which part of the month was this filmed?
This was the end of October. Basically the last nice weekend of the year. :O
Of course because it is close to Austria
That's why the mountains look so good
Hi U2
I just did a really cool museum that I think you'd like. So I thought I have to write immediately. It is the Erinnerungsort BADEHAUS in Waldram which is the sourhern bit of Wolfratshausen. You can easily get there by S-Bahn and bus. It's about the camp of displaced persons after the war that Existenz here and it has a lot of oral history bits. If you wanted to turn it into a day trip you could take in the Nazi achitecture in Waldram and then walk down to the Isar. Don't stay on the main path but go down right to the river shore you can either walk back to Wolfratshausen, yet that is a bit difficult to navigate, ( there are walks to be found in the app Komoot) or turn right when you hit the river and walk towatds Geretsried. That is were the Nazis had built the weapons factory, for which Waldram was originally built to house the workers. In Geretsried some of the old bunkers have been convrted into houses, very odd. Then go to the town nuseum there that gives you the history on the weapons factory. Then take the bus back to Wolfratshausen, stroll trough the town, have something to eat, a beer or an icecream, then go up the Bergwald, look at the house where the poet Rilke had his love nest, then go to the Golf course for views and cakes, you can see the farm where the author Wiechert burried his manuscripts so the Nazis would not find them, then take the Kreuzweg back down again. You can take a detour to where the castle once stood before it blew up. Then take the S-Bahn back home. Most probably it is not a trip tourist would do, but you, as a local, might find it interesting. If you do it, let me know, what you thought of it. 😀
We spent 2 weeks in Germany in August and Munich was home base. We saw Heidelberg(super), Regensburg, Salzburg, Noerdlingen, Fussen (the castle). Sadly, we did not get to the Eagle's Nest Berchtesgaden, Mittenwald or Garmisch P. Still had a great time. However, it seems to me that if you want mountains and lakes in Europe you really go one place?? Switzerland! Switzerland! Switzerland! Austria more than Germany too! Tourists? Tourists = economy! Period! To save money? Go and do what the locals do? We may go to the places we missed that I mention before going into Switzerland but it seems to me that Switzerland is where it is at mountain wise. Cheers!😊
Yeah Switzerland would be nice to visit. One day I’ll make a trip out there, but it’s hard to squeeze in amongst everything else I want to do. So we just haven’t prioritised it. Unfortunately it’s both too close and too far. I can’t visit Switzerland in a day or weekend trip, but if I’m taking a week off work to go somewhere, I’d rather go somewhere more different to my home like Turkey or Italy. So maybe one day I’ll go. Who knows when.
i wish we had this stuff in australia. i love our beaches but I just want mountains, rivers and forests lol. All without the spiders and snakes
I have heard Australia is beautiful (minus the spiders and snakes) but I would miss the mountains! Understandable!
@@NearFromHome It is, although I haven't seen much of it because it's so far too travel anywhere haha. But the beaches where I live are absolutely incredible. Some of the best in the world, so I definitely appreciate it everytime I see it, but yeah some mountains would be nice lol. Closest mountain from me is 400 kilometers away haha.
Nice video
Thanks so much! :D
Thanks for the informative video! It is very nicely paced. I plan on replicating your day with my family :) any chance you can link us the google maps route? The steep section shown on your video, is that the narrowest part of your ride? I will be going with my mother and young daughter in a bike seat so trying to assess if this route will be doable for us. How bad was the traffic on the road section?
Hope my videos will have the same quality one day my friend!
Thanks so much! You are too kind. :D
Well I worked there in 1968/69 long before the touristy hype and before you where born you little hotshot
If only you had made a video
must have been nice without the crowds
Please talk slowly
I can try
@@NearFromHome you are fine already, no need to change. thanks for making these cool travel clips! :)
