    This road can’t possibly be the priority. Surely it is far more pertinent to invest all the resources in powering up that country. Put electricity in all homes and industries, and watch how things begin to flourish.

      Illiterate, during times of economic depression, one of the steps to recover is to embark on massive infrastructure projects like the coastal highway that has the potential to revive businesses, generate transportation, tourism, create new businesses and opportunities, new towns, new industrial zones, etc

      @@user-fp5hq5kj2b Thank you for the insult! But it’s ironic that you commented on the very day that the realignment of the road was abandoned due to the uncovering of marine cables, highlighting the laxity with which they pushed this idea forward.
      I take your point about the economic benefits of undertaking bold infrastructural projects in tough times. Nonetheless, people forget that Economics is neither gambling nor prognostication, it is a pure science, because every decision is tested in time. We have countless examples of such misplaced priorities in Nigeria. Yet, even the least sophisticated among us will see that there are many more advantages in powering the country than linking up a coastal road.

    Stakeholders meeting are supposed to be held accross the whole lenght of the road (from Lagos to Calabar) involving diverse parties that will be directly and remotely affected.
    These consultations are supposed to be completed before any contractor is selected and any contract is signed. The findings from the consultation sessions will influence the choice of contractor and will form part of the details in the contracts.
    The arrogance of this government is mind-blowing. Very insensitive, insulting people all over the place. Lying through their nose at every opportunity.

    We cannot erode history while evolving into the fuutre. We need a coastal highway but it's important that the route and impact is properly thought out and planned. Nigerian government has not shown good faith historically in many projects and seem to be rushing this one too. They make it hard to trust them given their history even if they are telling the truth...and sadly i dont think they're telling the truth.

    In a normal Country you do stakeholders meetings, impact assessments even before you put out a contract bid which should be competitive and then you go to FEC for approval and NASS for appropriation of funds. Why is this road such an immediate priority? Why all the rush? Why a Coastal road before the East. West Road that would connect all the major cities between Lagos and Calabar? Why borrow so much money at this time the FGN is bankrupt? Hmmm this whole thing smells like a scam and in a few years we will uncover the truth all because we lack investigative journalism in Nigeria.

    FG is law unto themselves. THEY WILL INVENT THOSE PRELIMINARY REPORT and we must accept it. The presidency is personally interested in this project and what Nigerians expects is prudence and accountability of our resources. The cost of the project is huge and if i recall what happened to the likes of the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company that has become a jamboree of waste, the people feel this project does not align with the immediate solution to the biting economic circumstances we have found ourselves: insecurity, deplorable road networks, unstable power, increased electricity bill, rising cost of living etc.
    Government can not remain insensitive to the welfare of its people

    Smh.....Are we these gullible in Nigeria? How can the Federal Government hold stakeholder meeting after the project has been awarded and job started! Is this democracy? The idea of building a coastal road is good, but it is not a priority. How can road be more important than electricity. Lives depend on electricity....the economy depends on electricity. Increasing power supply is more of a legacy project than road.
    Why wasn't this project, as huge as it is, a focal point of Tinubu's campaign? About security, he talked about recruiting more people into the military and embarking on farming to feed the recruits, yet the idea of building a coastal road with all the economic benefits never came up! Our politicians always settle for paths of least resistance. They have really understood the people who do not understand themselves. We are not serious.....#wearenotready!!!

    • @giftedchild9490
      @giftedchild9490 Місяць тому

      Interesting how you people sit behind your keyboards and say the road is not a priority...if they don't work, you will complain...how will Apapa be decongested if they don't spread out ports

    • @princewill4477
      @princewill4477 Місяць тому

      @giftedchild9490 I would admonish you to make your comment without appearing unintelligent. Also, read between the lines and make an informed argument of your "own" position. Do not assume all virtual commentators are dimwits. Having an opposing view is healthy for our democracy. It shows that people are becoming conscious of governance.
      If I understand your argument of "how will Apapa be decongested if they don't spread out ports."
      I will start by informing you that the coastal highway is not the same as the development of sea/dry ports. The highway is designed to connect 9 states, commencing from Victoria Island as the point zero and not Apapa. Although it tends to pass through the Lekki Deep Seaport, I had in a latter submission, spoken about the need for Apapa Seaport to be considered, unfortunately the design starts from VI.
      I clearly stated that the idea was good but not a priority. Coastal highways do not resonate with the needs of Nigerians like electricity. Since it has commenced, the striking issues are as follows:
      1. Considering the importance and economic benefits of the highway, why didn't it form part of Tinubu's campaign promises? The idea was completely muted. Atiku's voters' perception dropped when he made a remark during the 2019 presidential debate that he was going to sell the refineries to his friends. Even the APC used it against him.
      2. Why was the contract award process shrouded in secrecy and not transparent?
      3. Why was it awarded to Gilbert Chagoury (owner of Hitech), a fraud genius and friend to President Tinubu. Chagoury has been indicted/convicted for fraudulent acts in some countries, including in Nigeria and the U.S.
      In addition, erratic power supply has forced multinationals to wind down operation in Nigeria and even relocated their plants to other African countries. These companies cited huge costs of running generators, among other reasons for leaving the country. Look at SMEs...for this sector to flourish, it needs power. How do we consume made in Nigeria products if Nigerian manufacturers find it difficult to operate their plants.
      Another argument is that our politicians choose paths of least resistance to tick their scorecards. Nigeria has an abundance of gas that is enough to power the continent, yet no meaningful (capital-intensive) investment is made in the sector. This same highway being built with over 15T Naira will require the budgets of almost 3 or more ministries to maintain every 5-10 years after completion, even though they claimed it will be tolled... These are the arguments!!!

      @user-jh6cx4jk8i Місяць тому

      Well, it is people like you are the problems of Nigeria. EIA is the most important project before any project is commenced. How a project affects people is very important and in a civilized clime, EIA is paid very much attention. LAILA Salami grew up in London, so she knows the importance of law and adherence to law.
      The rush to do this road is because of the quantum of bribery and thievery that will come from it. Coastal road is important but not at the expense of the impacts it will have on people. The original design saw this problem but Emilokan, who rigged himself to be president does not care and Umahi, who once flogged a journalist when he was a governor is too arrogant to obey the law. As an Engineer, he knows the importance of Environmental Impact Assessment.

If this lady who is trying so hard to speak with the English accent would learn about the English and their law, she would know that even in England when it comes to the use of private properties for the use of public benefit - the benefit of the larger society - the private individuals including communities must accept the consequential outcome as patriots.
