I got an M1911 last year. When CMP called to say my number in line was next. I gave them a credit card and they said they would ship via UPS that day. They called back to say my card was declined as Capitol One will not do firearms sales. The Capitol One card was a CABELA'S card. So, you can but guns at Bass Pro or Cabela's but nowhere else. One hundred thousand 1911 .45s. That's breathtaking. Eight thousand pistols released...well it's a start. And it sure beats the horror stories I used to hear of perfect, in some cases new never issued guns being chopped for scrap at Anniston. The general public deserves a crack at these relics, not a scrap dealer at 40 bucks a ton.
I didn’t get lucky on the M1 Carbine lottery. I sent in an application for 1911 round 2, so I’m crossing my fingers. I love the CMP mission and am thankful for them.
My random generated number, on the first go around was 18,3++. I thought there was no way I would ever get one. 2 years and three months later, I was holding an 1945 Springfield in my hand. Yes it was $1050 but it was a good buy. Out of the box it shot a fifty cent piece, three mag group. It was cheaper than any of my milsurp rifles. It is a great piece of history.
thats cool i lost mine in a boating accident but i paid $1050 for mine to, its a Remington Ran 1944-45 with a 60's restoration and a SW barrel , not as cool as yours but i still liked it
This was the first handgun I ever fired. A MN Army National Guard 1911. I have a very nice Springfield Armory replica in stainless. It is a favorite of mine to shoot. Good luck to all that get in on this purchase.
I was trained to shoot by the CMP back in the 70s . In the 80s I was able to pickup 4 M1s . My go to deer rifle for 40 years. In the lottery for one of these.
We could probably use a boating safety program too. Most of my family have also been involved in boating accidents resulting in the loss of all firearms.

Interesting handguns, but let me add this word of caution. If you are buying one as a historical piece, that's great. But if you intend to shoot these guns, just know that many model 1911 pistols manufactured during World War Two were manufactured in such a rush that manufacturing steps were skipped in order to get them to the front lines. WW2 guns were generally not heat treated, so the slides and frames have steel that is a bit on the soft side. Those handguns I mention were intended to have a life span of about five thousand (5,000) rounds; which was more than adequate for a sidearms that was intended to be carried by an officer during the war. But...for modern shooters....some folks will shoot 5,000 rounds in a single year for target practice. (And remember....you are buying a reworked, used handgun that might have already fired 2,000 or more rounds before you got it.
100,000 1911’s in Anniston !!! Damn !! Hopefully the CMP will be able to eventually sell all of them. It would be a sin if they destroy any of them... I received mine in the first batch, an Ithaca from 1943.

If you don't want a frankengun or parts bin gun then I suggest you look at the pistols that are selected for auction . There you will find that each pistol up for auction has several photos so you know exactly what you're buying. They'll be more expensive but it'll be worth the effort. With the service, field or rack grade you get what you get. In my opinion every pistol that has a matching slide and frame should either be sent to auction or sold as service grade. You thought $1k would get you a 1911 that wasn’t a depot rebuild? Your disappointment was not due to the CMP. You had incredibly unrealistic expectations.
Too much hassle for an old antiquated 1911 firearm.
Need to earn it. If you can’t, don’t be bitter 😂
very cool
I was 2111.
Anything I can do, to help?
How much for one?
I would love one
Hope Korea returns the stockpile of 1911 and M1 carbines.someday
I would very much appreciate the opportunity to buy one ot two of those pistols.
My father had a Switch and Signal.
Your name is familiar. I knew a Gary McClellan. Vietnam vet. Staff Sgt. Union Switch and Signal was a railroad equipment manufacturer.
Aaand... they're gone.
Only 1911 I have any interest in owning. You can have all those nasty kimbers, Rugers etc.
I’ll buy at least one
Now is Teddy Roosevelt could have done away with that horrible drawl.
I would like to purchase a 1911 PLEASE.
Disappointed to see the price increase. American history has become expensive.
$1200 for a clapped out, so loose they rattle GI 1911????? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH....OHOHOHOHO man....excuse me...BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wonder if you are going to charge $3k for one? Hope not, many of us 1911 owners would like a chance to own history.
I want one!!!
Round 2 packet sent 14 JAN 2021, RGN 24302 on 05 MAY 2021. Pre-programed CMP number on phone. Tried to educate wife about if my phone rings with this number, just say, "Yes. Service Grade. My card number is ..."
Is this batch of 1911s going to be priced at about a grand each too? These pistols that were already purchased once by taxpayers many decades ago.
Price 'em too low and people scoop 'em up to resell.
Hear you, but the money goes to support the CMP mission. I'm ok with that
You should watch the video in full. They explain they are selling them to fund their program. If people are willing to pay 1k, why should they charge less? They also do not want people buying these to flip them, so they have to be at a price that's below market but not too much so.
Yes these are priced between $800 - $1100 for a used 1911. For history, or bragging that may be fine. I purchased a new Kimber 1911 for about $1000 and it is class, clean and new. I just thing that they could drop $200 off the price range for these old things and it would be reasonable. Ya, I'm just going to go buy another new one down at my local store and save the brain damage. I don't need a piece of history that may not have been anything exciting.
@@ctromanus Which is what exactly? I have not seen the CMP actually host ANYTHING outside their own little private matches at Anniston and booths at Camp Perry.
There is alot of media about 'they do this and that' but I have not actually seen it.
How"...
I love this program but I hate the ppl that buy guns from this and flip them.
Over priced that we already paid for in taxes should have lottery for war service veterans to get one
To complicated, takes to long and is way to expensive...
For the price they ask?
Fuck'em.
I'll buy a new one.
1911's are clunky and the ergonomics are lacking, I prefer a Hi Point .45.
