  • The Heart Breaking Story Of An Iowa Legend, The Tall Brow 8 | Deer Season 24
On this episode of Deer Season 24 we share a heartbreaking story of a giant whitetail, with tons of history in the great state of Iowa. This story dates back to the 2021 season as Mark Drury and the guys encounter a young buck numerous times with all kinds of potential! After a close encounter during the 2022 season Mark decides to pass this deer in hopes that he will turn into something special for the next season. In rolls 2023 season and this deer has BLOWN up. Sitting at the top of the hit-list the guys strategize ways to put them in the right spot for this deer, and Mark almost gets the job done on the morning of November the 3rd. Unfortunately this story takes a sad turn during the late season as this buck disappears from the cameras and the crew gets a call from the neighbor. The story ends in a disappointing heartbreak, but the chapter of this incredible deer finally comes to a close. We hope you enjoy this episode and as always thank you for watching!

Ok I hate to be the guy that says this but I really enjoy these heartbreaker series. The reason is because it is just incredible to watch a buck mature and that there are so many things that can kill them. And hunters are a percentage of the mortality. And it is the single best way a animal can die because it is used and doesn't go to waste when harvested by a true respected hunter. I think drury Outdoors does a great job telling stories, and it's fascinating.

Mark in that tree in early November whispering man that takes me back. Love it. I remember junior & senior yr of hs running to the sporting goods store & buying all three volumes of Drury Outdoors & going back to a buddy’s parents house & six of us, all really into bowhunting & big deer, we’d watch sit & watch each one. That’s when DOD took over the top spot in deer hunting television from Realtree’s Monster Bucks. MB was good but it wasn’t what Drury’s were putting out there.

The patience of mark and the whole crew to let him grow up shows the truth of how they are able to harvest the giants they do it’s not that they have “ high fence” like all the naysayers cry about it’s a true testament of hard work pays off! Kudos fellas and ladies of DODtv

I had a buck like that on my farm last year, never got a shot. Ended up harvesting a 163 ten point

Plot twist: and then you woke up from your dream and realized the 163 you killed was on a video game.

Yea that is not the way toy want to find them. I had one i was after last yr and we got pics of him daylight all the time. I actually had him at 15yds but he was behind me and i couldnt get a clean shot. After 1st day of gun he went missing so i suspected something happened to him. Well 2 months later a neighbor found him dead. And mark. I love that camo pattern you are wearing when you are talking. Reminds me of the tree bark i use to use back in the 90’s

I'm kinda curious as to why the Drury team isn't using the m.a.d growler or the hyper growl grunt tubes. I have the original hyper growl from when it first came out with the mini DVD and it's the only grunt tube I will use until I can no longer use it. Would love to see that grunt call back in the market. I've called in hundreds of bucks with it. Mature and adolescent bucks both.

I live in Southeast Kansas. I had a buck in 2023 that I had passed up for 4 yrs he was 7 finally he’s at his best. My last picture of him was middle of September But this wasn’t abnormal for him thankfully, I had several Farm to the west that he would end up on kind of like a route he would take I knew I would soon get pictures, but that never happened through October. I hunted hard looking for him. I was moving some cattle something caught my eye down at the creek so I stopped to investigate. Wouldn’t you know it was him EHD has killed what I would estimate half our Deer heard absolutely disgusting. I didn’t even hunt after finding him. I was that disgusted to have so much time Invested with him so many encounters, passing them up every year so much anticipation, if he made it through the winner and watch him grow new antlers from January to shed September to find him in a pile of bones at the creek like so many others It disgusting mother nature can be amazing, but yet so cruel

Amen! @seanturner3823 Mother Nature rules all and that is one incredible story with passing that deer up year after year just to find him in a creek.. That's a hard pill to swallow! We hope your deer population comes back strong, and you have another big one to chase in the years to come!

I couldn't keep critters away from the antlers I have if they weren't covered, let alone in the timber.
