I don't know, even if she is ruthless. But I think I can't hate Lady Melisandre because she always act accordingly to Lord of Light. She totally believe in her God and without her efforts, this battle would have a different results.
I know, but there is such a thing as doing the right thing for the wrong reasons. For Melisandre, it was always about serving the Lord of Light and little else. If that same Lord of Light had asked her to kill every man, woman, and child in Winter fell, she would have done it without a second thought. But apparently this is a god who likes to be worshipped by the living, so it asked her to do the opposite. I can't even imagine what her childhood was like. Sold into slavery and packed off to Asshai, a place of darkness with no children and little joy beyond the perversions that go on there, raised by a cult of fire worshippers and necromancers to be the fanatical instrument of an inscrutable deity.
I get chills every time Melisandre chants. The doubt and terror in her voice is chilling, and it just makes the scene feel so much longer in that instance.

Lady Melissandre was such an amazing, complex character. For all her flaws and evil deeds, she was devout and a true-hearted ally of the living. She really meant what she said when she said she wanted only to help good triumph over evil. There was no selfishness or ulterior motives, unlike a lot of people in the GoT world.
@RandomNetizen Yeah the Dothraki and the morons commanding them sucked (can't blame Mel for that) but they would no doubt have sucked harder without the flaming swords. Also, the spell allowed the Unsullied & knights of the Vale to witness how badly the Dothraki got defeated and so to prepare themselves. Melisandre knew they weren't going to last long, hence why she said "Valar Morgulis" to Grey Worm to remind him that soon the Dothraki would all be dead.
Their strategy in this entire fight was brainless, if she hadn’t been there they would have all lost and it wouldn’t have even been a battle just a massacre
The neat thing is that she was going to die in a few hours anyways, so the fear in her voice is not fear for herself. It's fear that she can't save the others.
In the beginning I hated Melisandre. And of course this hate intensified when she burned Shireen. But she always fascinated me as a character. And especially after she came to Castle Black and her belief was way nore humble I really began to like her. Stannis' loss and Davos confronting her really brought her down to earth and she started to see through the illusions she had for her belief. One of my favorite scenes from Seven 7 was when she was talking to Varys on that cliff, because they are both great actors, fascinating characters und really important in this "acting in the shadows"genre. I was really happy to see her, even though I did expect her to bring other Red priestesses from Volantis with her or the Fiery Hand even. But nontheless it was great seeing Melisandre in this amazing episode and having the focus on her quite often. If we say other characters did redeem themselfs like Theon then we definetly need to say the same about Mel. And she had a fantastic end for her. She came to peace with herself and the world. Sold as a slave, used and humiliated, she found hope in her belief, only to become a fanatic. But then she realised that her belief doesn't need her to burn children or kill with shadowmagic. So she became humble. She brought together Ice and Fire (and did we hear that phrase ever before in the show?). And now she brought Arya to being the absolute MVP this episode. Goodbye Melisandre! You were a great addition to this show and hopefully you found your way into the light. I also liked Carice van Houten's personality and knew her before I started watching GoT from her performance in the Movie "Black Book".

Let’s not forget to give credit where credit is due- Liam Cunningham’s performance in every Melisandre scene is heartbreaking- his constant inner battle of wanting to do everything to save the North and wanting to bring Melisandre to justice hurts to watch. Such a good actor
Her confidence is shaking and her magic is waning you can tell by her voice. Say what you want about the Red woman but she was always devoted to the lord of light even till the very end. It was part of her agenda to help out those like John snow and Arya even if it cost her , her own life.

The many faced God, and the God of light, are truly fascinating entities, and their servants, the most interesting characters.. The fåceless man, melisandre, the guy who's missing an eye
Their origins are as old as the Valyrian empire itself where slaves from the dragon lords created these societies based on those gods to later free themselves from slavery it’s truly a very intriguing period and my favorite one in the whole game of thrones universe
She only had a handful of scenes in this episode but she gets the award for the best acting. Her expression when trying to light the trenches: she wanted to redeem herself so bad. That shot of her with the flames in her eyes afterwards gives me chills. Exquisite acting.
I believe now that Melisandre wasn’t a carbon cut out villain . She is more like Ned stark than Ramsey Snow . She was a person that was so lead by her faith and convictions. She was willing to do anything to keep them . This obviously caused so much peril for herself and those around her . But she believed so steadfastly about her Lord .. and by the end of this clip her feelings are vindicated.
Melisandre made many mistakes, some of which are unforgivable. That being said, without diminishing Arya's accomplishment, when the night was darkest Melisandre of Ashai turned the tide.
@@HulklingsBoyfriend yup, and even if it was the Lord of light, if Melisandre didn't show up in person and risk her life to say the fire spells then the North would have lost.
I really like that none of the gods have any proof, and that anything attributed to them can be explained by people that possess magic within themselves. Even the "old gods" of the northmen and their sacred trees were explained as being connected to the children of the forest, not a true god. Some in this world are born with magical blood, like the Valyrians, so it's only natural that there would be other bloodlines with their own brand of magical ability. Melisandre's belief in her god could have been a channel for belief in herself, and that strengthened her magic. The fact that she was also a seer capable of reading visions within fire, like Brann, made her even more powerful. She was a spectacular gray character, one of the best created, imo.
Melisandre and the Hound were two of the only characters to get a nearly flawless story IMO. Both feel true enough to the vibe from the books and their actors were amazing.
I hope in the House of Dragon, we can see Asshai. I know Asshai and eastern-essos has little to do with that place, but I hope they deviate a bit. I want to see the Shadowlands and Yi Ti. Also the mysterious Five Forts, which is the Essos The Wall.
Beautiful character. Beautiful actor. Beautiful development. Beautiful and chilling start, beautiful and incredible end. She was the highlight of this episode and the great final battle of Game of Thrones. Turning the Dothraki into flaming warriors, lighting the trench with indescribeable music and VFX, complete chills. And luring Arya Stark towards her path, just like Syrio Forel and Jaqen H'Ghar fought so valiantly for, and what Ser Beric Dondarrion was put through for. A magnificent, powerful character with an incredible ending to her chapter. Brilliant. Beautiful.
Ce jeux d'acteur absolument exceptionnel, on peut ressentir l’inquiétude de Mélisandre, toute sa peur, son étonnement, et son soulagement. Juste magnifique
Along with all of this, Melisandre reminded Arya who the f#@! she was to get after the Night King. Melisandre was one of the most valuable players throughout that battle.
@4:24 Finally, not so ominous background drop for the Lady Melisandre. Sacrificing Shireen was her lowest point and this was her highest and right up there among the greatest moments in all the series for all characters
4.39 sums up the shitty writing we got in season 8. Jon and a dragon were 10 foot from the pit when she lit the fire. He is meant to be blinded by the storm so can't see the signal. Instead him and Rheagal are on a coffee break and they can see exactly what is going on.
One of my favorite scenes in GoT to this day since I really felt like the actress was channeling not only Melisandre, but the mythos from the books here! The “white walkers” are basically the vessels of another God of Westeros, so her fear here is completely valid. In the books Melisandre doesn’t touch Shireen because her companion, “Patchface”, scares her due to him being a prophet of the Drowned God (yet another God associated with water.) In that context, it feels like she’s wavering not only because of the fighting going on around her, but because she is standing against the might of another God, one that is just as powerful as the one she follows! She is unsure if her God truly has the ability to go up against the army of what is essentially the second coming of “The Other,” the God of Ice.
Melisandre: "Valar morghulis" ("all men must die" in other words "brace yourself Unsullied because the Dothraki are screwed") Grey Worm: "Valar dohaeris" ("all men must serve" in other words "I know they're screwed and we're all going to have to fight")
That Dothraki would never let her touch him, Dothrakis hate witches. However she was the real hero of this episode because thank to her we could see at leqst something.
I hate how when the zombies are all piled up and stop moving, the archers stop firing like what??? You have a quarter million troops in front of you. Keep firing!

The music is more lit than the trenches

What does it mean ?
Melisandre made many mistakes, some of which are unforgivable. That being said, without diminishing Arya's accomplishment, when the night was darkest Melisandre of Ashai turned the tide.
Imagine if she herself burst into flames, an epic release of power from the lord of lighting using her almost. Like a Phoenix,
Thank God someone remembered to turn on the lights 😒
The lord of light is the true mvp here.
No evidence that he's real still, this could very easily be caused by Melisandre herself. Magic exists there.
@@HulklingsBoyfriend yup, and even if it was the Lord of light, if Melisandre didn't show up in person and risk her life to say the fire spells then the North would have lost.
AdeptLen the lord of light is real, I pray for you, sir you smell of piss and fear, for the night is dark and full of terrors
She was a spectacular gray character, one of the best created, imo.
lord of light iis only one Lucifer
Melisandre and the Hound were two of the only characters to get a nearly flawless story IMO. Both feel true enough to the vibe from the books and their actors were amazing.
Would be cool if she could throw fire balls.
Bian Chang who said I couldn’t 😉

@Daniel Pereira she- she's still dead..

Melisandre redeem herself in this episode.
I don’t know why but this is one of my favorite parts of this final battle. It gave me the chills.
Even with the tactical problems, you can’t deny this episode was pretty damn beautiful to watch-especially at these parts
You mean the parts we were able to actually see what was happening
I hope in the House of Dragon, we can see Asshai. I know Asshai and eastern-essos has little to do with that place, but I hope they deviate a bit. I want to see the Shadowlands and Yi Ti. Also the mysterious Five Forts, which is the Essos The Wall.
The Dothraki never actually stood a chance against the cold gods.
Say what you want, but for me, she was one of the best and misterious characters. From the beginning
Brilliant.
Beautiful.
I never thought Melisandre would become one of my favorite characters but here we are. Remarkable scene.
Ce jeux d'acteur absolument exceptionnel, on peut ressentir l’inquiétude de Mélisandre, toute sa peur, son étonnement, et son soulagement. Juste magnifique
the highly dramatized Lord of Light theme when Melisandre lights the barriers aflame is so fucking cool!
4:39 you were right there, mounting a dragon, useless......
The Dragonfire got put out by the storm earlier in the episode.
God that Stannis theme gives me chills every time. Such a simple but powerful track.
She should have given Jaime a fire hand and he kicks ass killing the Night King. Thus, he becomes the kingslayer twice over.
Jaime bitchslapping the dead ones with a flaming hand. Beautiful. Thanks for the image
Along with all of this, Melisandre reminded Arya who the f#@! she was to get after the Night King. Melisandre was one of the most valuable players throughout that battle.
Why couldn’t John just light it himself since he was already there. John is so useless, he always needs to be save
Give him a break. He knows nothing.
Saved* :)
She was so lit.
That background music every time she makes an appearance; epic!!!
imagine if Thoros made it in this battle...
Thanks melisandre for letting us see the chapter from this moment
Those violins give me the chills every time
@4:24 Finally, not so ominous background drop for the Lady Melisandre. Sacrificing Shireen was her lowest point and this was her highest and right up there among the greatest moments in all the series for all characters

Thank you for this, Lord of Light!
She knew she was going to die during or after the battle, and decided to stay and help. ❤️ She completed her task and died peacefully ❤️❤️
*dying thoughts*
"thanks for the flaming swords, now we can see exactly what slaughtered us all in seconds"
4.39 sums up the shitty writing we got in season 8. Jon and a dragon were 10 foot from the pit when she lit the fire. He is meant to be blinded by the storm so can't see the signal. Instead him and Rheagal are on a coffee break and they can see exactly what is going on.
The only person who lightened season 7.
Me when electricity goes for 5 minutes straight : Ayexyo sonyo elon misas...
Army at the far back : what? .. oh we lifting our sword?..why"
Melisandre was kind enough to turn on the lights because seems R’hllor was taking a break this whole episode.
Honestly, these scenes were really epic !!
This is my go-to video when I need some light while going to pee at night.
Such a goosebump moment! 🔥
She’s my favorite character she’s serve and carrying period.
Awww, Melisandre warmed Dolorous Edd's heart and made him smile. :)
That guarded entrance to light the trench would even dare the night king to slow down 🤩
Say what ye will, but R'hllor is the only GOT god to actually do something during the "apocalpyse"
One of my favorite scenes in GoT to this day since I really felt like the actress was channeling not only Melisandre, but the mythos from the books here! The “white walkers” are basically the vessels of another God of Westeros, so her fear here is completely valid. In the books Melisandre doesn’t touch Shireen because her companion, “Patchface”, scares her due to him being a prophet of the Drowned God (yet another God associated with water.)
In that context, it feels like she’s wavering not only because of the fighting going on around her, but because she is standing against the might of another God, one that is just as powerful as the one she follows! She is unsure if her God truly has the ability to go up against the army of what is essentially the second coming of “The Other,” the God of Ice.
Watching this in 2020. Jesus these scenes brought a tear to my eye.
Melisandre: "Valar morghulis" ("all men must die" in other words "brace yourself Unsullied because the Dothraki are screwed")
Grey Worm: "Valar dohaeris" ("all men must serve" in other words "I know they're screwed and we're all going to have to fight")
That Dothraki would never let her touch him, Dothrakis hate witches. However she was the real hero of this episode because thank to her we could see at leqst something.
This was one of the best scenes from the episode
I hate how when the zombies are all piled up and stop moving, the archers stop firing like what??? You have a quarter million troops in front of you. Keep firing!
such a beautiful and powerful scene
If that's the last of the Lord of Light theme that we're going to hear then it was a fucking epic way to go out.
Melisandre foi a melhor cena de toda a temporada.
Always in my heart...
Edd had the smirk of ok. No matter what happens we got this.
The Red Lady second in line to Danaerys Targarean in terms of most deserving respect, beauty, valor, talent and spark (pun unintended!)
such a great actress.
Despite it's flaws, season 8 had it moments.
