This video is absolutely amazing I am from Israel. I accidently landed here and now you Couse me to buy tickets to Glasgow and going to do it on may 25. Thanks so much for this detailed video. You succeed to vanish all my fears from a backpack tour in a far country
Ray, I really enjoyed your video. I love all the water & lush greenery along this trail. There is a long switchback in the Grand Canyon of Arizona called Devil's Staircase and another one called Jacob's Ladder, both are rather grueling. My father's family came to the U.S. in 1775 from Scotland & settled in Wilkes County, North Carolina. My wife & I visited Ireland many years ago on a business trip, but unfortunately we were unable to visit Scotland, perhaps one day. My dad served for 3 yrs. in World War II & was able to pass thru Scotland. He said he looked for our family's last name in the Glasgow phone book and there were 7 pages of Shores, apparently a very common name. However my middle name is Wallace, so I take some pride in that.
My wife and I watched your WHW videos before we took your advice hiked it full kit finishing 7 April 23 in eight days fortunately with mostly good weather, we watched the winter WHW with Scotlands Mountains and now having done the walk in relatively good weather we were amazed at your determination in those conditions. We are no spring chickens so many times we thought of giving up but for the encouragement of some great people we met along the way, we like watching your videos over again reminding us of the beautiful scenery of Scotland and how tough some sections were but that made it more rewarding. Thanks for videos 👍👍👍
Wow, so glad you completed the hike and a great achievement. At times my films and others don't show how hard it can be at times but glad it was of some help. Wishing you Atb
I did the WHW back in 1983 when I was 18 with an old Vango Force 10 cotton orange tent.....before the days of lightweight gear. Could barely get my pack onto my back! Took me 10 days. Loved every minute. What a stunning walk it is. Was great to see it again. Fabulous film Ray. Many thanks.
I finished the WHW on the 6th of May , My 1st ever visit to Scotland and boy what a treat ! The trail is epic, scenery out of this world and the people made us feel very welcome , thank you Scotland, I now hold you dear to my heart 🏴🏴👍

Thanks for this video. Scotland looks to be beautiful for backpacking. I have that same TT Notch Li solo tent. Like you I added fly hem stake loops. I bought the optional "pole handle cups" so my pole handles can be UP and not down in the dirt. Also I dyed my inner tent Green with RIT Dyemore (for synthetic fabrics). This gives me shade and some privacy in an otherwise translucent tent. Not sure yet but I MAY add the mid-fly guy line points you have done since here in the US mountain west we can get some pretty high winds, sometimes for days at a time.
What a couple of years make. I did the WHW back in May 2018 had sunshine everyday. WHW was the highlight of my Lejog walk. The Kingshouse looks good, it was a building site back in 2018.
Well made video Ray, good walk to test gear for the CWT, done it before and plan to go again in Oct with my brother before I head out on the CWT in Nov/Dec. As you say a great to test gear, fuel, scran requirements.
Thanks for that, now I have another trip I need to book. I'm heading up to the highlands in Feb and doing a ride from Edinburgh to London in May so might be able to fit this in to July.....looks awesome.

I have to say Ray, I think this is the best UA-cam account of the West Highland Way that I’ve seen (and I’ve watched plenty)🤣. The photography is superb and the editing on point. I’m itching to hike the second half of this trail before I reach and age where I can’t ! I’m also amazed you did it in that time factoring in all the extra ‘b-roll’ miles that you had to add on! I shall watch this again tonight on the big screen. 👍🏻👍🏻
Loved this video, this was the first WHW video I watched, and just over a year later managed to do the walk myself, in late May, with pretty much the opposite weather as in the video, ie. totally no wind, beating sun, roasting heat, no rain, tons of midges and deer fly. Was also able to fit in a few other summit wildcamps after the WHW, needless to say I love hiking in Scotland and plan to return.
We met towards the end of the Lairig before you head off to Glen Nevis. That last day turned out to be relatively warm and dry. I never tire of the stretch between Ft William and Kinlochleven. Invariably a treat though it has its off days too. Nice video. Nice to have net you in the flesh.
Oaft, flashbacks to doing that same long day between Inveroran and Kinlochleven a number of years ago - really should've gone for one of those wee hobbit huts too, remember that bit of grass out the front being absolutely rock solid and ruining a load of pegs!

Great video, Ray! Sad to say that me and my mates just failed the WHW last week. Tried to do it in 6 days, but this was our first thru hike. Made the classic mistakes. Thanks Ray for taking us along, was great to see the places you had previously camped. Looked like a great shakedown for things to come. Let the camping gods be benevolent.
Nice, a trail I have done many times now, only the first time south bound last year though and it made a fair old difference I have to say. I did find your optimism funny prior to going to the Green Wellie thinking "he surely knows it's pricey as hell". I don't think I have ever done the Beinglas to Inveroran section dry..! Blackwater is a great wee campsite. Unfortunately the last couple of times I have done the trail that last section has been scarred by the new power lines they have been installing and last year the forest had been felled further in, still great to do though and I really do feel it's still my favourite trail, it just offers everything.
@@RS.Outdoors I found it easier in general I suppose, maybe it was just the different perspective of going southbound but I did notice a few things off the trail I hadn't noticed before, it was a good experience so definitely try it.
The snoring on the first night (of your neighbors), cracked me up…! I probably should apologize for being so easily amused, but I will not! 🤷♀️🤣I thoroughly enjoyed this video and all of your practical knowledge!
Nice one Ray, shame about the weather. 2and time I did it I woke up in tent at Ba cottage,Rannock Moor to 6 ins of snow, stayed like that till FW where people were I shorts and tee shirt 😃 it's what makes it interesting.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I'm walking WHW later this year, my first long distance. I have watched several videos of people walking this, but yours showcased the beautiful scenary the best. I am pleasantly surprised at how flat it is in general!
Well done Ray, so enjoyed revisiting the WHW. Took me 6 and half or so days. Was hoping to visit the area next month and do Ben Nevis with a wild camp round the North side but flights cancelled. So that's on hold. Maybe later in the year.
I really enjoyed the video. I did the WHW in April 2019 and I still find myself watching videos of the walk. Yours is one of the best I’ve seen. Very well done!

How did you find walking it south, easier, harder? Might try it that way in a future walk.
Great video. As gritty as a walk of that magnitude would be like. Not that im ever gonna find out. Nice one.
Thanks 👍
Was up at Balmaha for a week at the beginning of August, beautiful area.
Yes it is and some great walks and places to visit around it. Atb
Really enjoyed watching this. Well done. Your channel and Scotland's Mountains are my fave TV programmes 😁👍
Awesome, thank you! Atb
To be,or not to be,that is the question....
Some really great shots here dude! thanks you for such a good watch. 😍
Great video. I used to stop at the real food cafe in Tyndrum, they do great food for Coeliacs
Good to know! Atb
Brilliant, thank you. Not sure I will ever be able. Just hoping.

Have fun!
Nice one Ray, shame about the weather. 2and time I did it I woke up in tent at Ba cottage,Rannock Moor to 6 ins of snow, stayed like that till FW where people were I shorts and tee shirt 😃 it's what makes it interesting.
Yeh, the weather is a peach at times. Atb
Excellent video Ray. Enjoyed watching that. Makes me want to walk the WHW. I once had a terrible baked potato in the green wellie..........I think I bent the knife & fork!! Keep the videos coming m8 👍🏼
The Green wellie does some lovely meat pies though. me and Caz got some on the way home and loved them.
Excellent vlog and great commentary. Thanks for taking us for the walk!!
Glad you enjoyed it. Atb
Excellent video. I’ve stayed at the Beinglas farm campsite, great food and pub. Had my first Scottish gin there!
Nice one! Atb
Thanks for that, the path seems really good. Glad you’ve not had any feet issues.
All good. Atb
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this. I'm walking WHW later this year, my first long distance. I have watched several videos of people walking this, but yours showcased the beautiful scenary the best. I am pleasantly surprised at how flat it is in general!
Glad it was helpful! Hope you have great weather and a fantastic time. Atb
Well done Ray, so enjoyed revisiting the WHW. Took me 6 and half or so days. Was hoping to visit the area next month and do Ben Nevis with a wild camp round the North side but flights cancelled. So that's on hold. Maybe later in the year.
Hope you get back up at some point mate and well done on ding the WHW. Atb
I really enjoyed the video. I did the WHW in April 2019 and I still find myself watching videos of the walk. Yours is one of the best I’ve seen. Very well done!
Awesome! Thank you!
Thanks so much for taking us along on your trip. I miss Scotland a lot. Love your work. Off to watch some more. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you so much Ray, wonderful to see you getting back on track and letting us be part of it 🤗 we had to cancel our scotland trip last year but this video makes me hopeful that we can soon visit your beautiful country again. Stay safe and cheers for now 🍀
Hope you get back soon. Atb
Another great video, made me homesick though. Thank you for sharing. Cheers from NZ.
Glad you enjoyed it. Atb
Good weather , water spout .
Can't wait to get out . Cheers
Brilliant video Ray. 13 of us doing it on Monday, cannot wait to get going.
Great stuff and hope you have a fantastic time. Atb
Marvellous stuff. Looking forward to ticking the WHW off eventually. Thanks for taking the time and sharing the video.
Hope you get to do it and have a great time. Atb
Excellent video, my favourite walk, been blessed with great weather both times. Only needed to wear a coat for 1/2hr in a total of 9 days. Stopped in exactly the same places as you in 2017 and pushed on to do it in 4 days last year.
Good stuff! and thanks for watching. Atb
