Ever since its debut, American Pickers has grown from strength to strength, with the show getting more popular every season. The popularity of the show was mainly due to the charisma and gravitas of its two hosts; Frank Fritz and Mike Wolfe.
Both men formed the merry band that went across America looking for rusty gold. Rusty gold in this context were valuable antiques and collectables that were extremely valuable but underappreciated by their current owners.
As the show became popular its viewers did not know that there was a huge conflict brewing behind the scenes. That conflict would eventually cause a huge change in the cast of the show and would lead to huge personnel decisions being made.
For a while now, the second half of the duo hosting American Pickers has not been seen on set. While there were a lot of rumours about why Frank Fritz was no longer on the show, the history channel recently confirmed that Fritz would not be coming back.
Sadly, that was the only thing the History channel said. They did not give any reason why Fritz was no longer on the show, and Wolfe, his former co-host, basically just went on as if nothing had happened. He released a very ambiguous statement on Instagram, and that was it.
This meant that a lot of fans of American Pickers had no idea what happened and were left to wonder what happened to Fritz.

I quit watching a couple years ago when personalities were more important than the actual show. As a lover of nostalgia, it lost it's luster when the lives of the cast were more important than the history of the artifacts.
That always happens when success grows out of an idea. People want more of the backgrounds. This is very normal. Curiosity.
I agree 100%, I havent watched in ages for just that very reason. Its not the first show I have dropped because of "drama" and I am certain it will not be the last.
I agree. It went from the pick to the picker. Then it went further, it was about the customer and the amount of items they showed dropped to virtually nothing.
I think what most ppl wanted was updates on restored items and the type of value, if any, it brought. That format works well for other shows and it seems to be what was in demand from their audience judging by the commenting sections. If they would've supplied that demand rather than the alternative things it would've probably been perceived in a better light but getting rid of a household name like Frank on a show with 2 main characters really has never worked out historically. Upset that the history channel & it's producer's fired frank for getting drunk & arrested for being under the influence of Oxycotin & alcohol.
So It's okay with you & all of you frank pitty party bandwagon that frank could of hit a vehicle head on killing a family member or even worse than that a complete family or a van full of children returning from a sporting event.
That the history channel & producer's making the correct decision by firing frank after his drunk driving for the 5th time testing positive under the influence of Oxycotin & alcohol.

PREVENTED FRANK FROM A VERY LENGTHY PRISON SENTENCE FOR VEHICULAR HOMICIDE.
I'M AM ALWAYS GOING TO SIDE WITH THE HISTORY CHANNEL & THEIR PRODUCERS DECISION.
FIRING FRANK & SAVING HIS LIFE AS WELL AS INNOCENT OTHER'S.
The one thing that struck me as “unforgivable” is Mike not calling Frank after his surgery. Not a friend in my book.
It's my understanding that you can count your real friends on one hand.

People get busy. Calling after a surgery isn’t a big deal. I don’t want to be bothered after surgeries nor do most of my patients.

Mike is the one with the charisma to carry the show. The show needs a lead character to be like him. As many have learned, charismatic guys are rarely the "you go, we go" type. Frank is a loyal puppy, but doesn't have what it takes to be the lead guy on a show. They balance each other out really well. However, if Frank brought alcohol abuse to the show and its cast, he indeed earned his exit.

Seems like Mike was always the guy to actually help the folks on the show as far as money goes. Frank was ALWAYS a cheap skate.

I work with some guys that met Frank at a bike rally years back and they said he was a nice down to earth guy. This was right when the show started so take the info for what it is.
I'm glad they gave us years of good times picking through junk and we'll leave it at that God bless the both of them
It's sad that Frank Fritz is no longer on the show. It's a real loss for the show. One thing I've noticed over the seasons is that on the "picks", Frank was often seen dealing for himself and not Wolfe's store. If Fritz had his own show, I'd watch it. In the meantime, I would like to believe that Fritz is collecting royalties. And, with Fritz's drinking problem, it goes hand in hand with his back problems. I'll bet that he has cause to take legal action against the show's producers and the network. Chrones disease is nothing to be overlooked. People die from it. I'll bet the show pushed him beyond reasonable limits.

I no longer watch the current show. If it isn't a rerun with Frank in it, I don't watch the show. The show has always been scripted, but we enjoyed the series.

Mike divorced his wife and ended his friendship with Frank the same year….it doesn’t take a genius to figure out who is the devil.
Frank had a back injury, surgery and could no longer work on the show.. That is the reason.. Not anything about the personal relationships.
Mike bullied Frank. Screwing him over his brother. Cheating on his wife. Mike’s big head screwed the show.

Anyone watching the show would know Wolfe is arrogant and like all 'reality' TV it's fake.
It has seemed to me that Wolfe is a back stabbed. If Wolfe was really a friend to Frank and he had a drinking problem and Crohns disease he would be there for him. Wolfe is a bad person.
As the show got popular, Mike Wolfe's brother Robbie started appearing more as a regular than a guest appearance here & there. Also in the show Mike & Frank play best friends since grade school. Lies! "We were never friends in Grade School" Frank Fritz mentioned in a recent interview. Like any show on television you have a budget. History Channel couldn't pay Robbie & Frank usually required by the Screen Actors Guild "Union". Mike Wolfe is the Executive Producer of American Pickers. He owns the show. So of course he chose his brother Robbie. Also during this time Mike Wolfe became close friends w/Jersey Jon because of mutual respect of motorcycles & bicycles. Now Jersey Jon is a regular on American Pickers along w/Robbie Wolfe. Frank Fritz became the "5th Wheel" or "low man on the Totem Pole" and wasn't offered a renewed contract.
I learned more from you than this dumb video. lol
Frank Fritz has suffered a stroke and is in the hospital. I sincerely hope he will get well.

I'd honestly watch Frank over Mike.
Sounds like Wolfe and the crew had given up on Fritz before he took off for his surgery and to fight his alcohol demons. The brain fuzz of being an addict can make someone's memory a bit disorganized about the series of events in the mind of a recovering addict. Fritz has improved his health, but maybe the reason Mike and Danielle have not reached out is because they are still waiting on his apologies. Some people who are functioning alcoholics have no recollection of the deeds they've done to others while intoxicated. I have friends who in the past would get downright STUPID when drunk and wouldn't remember what they did the next day.
Mike never talks about frank what a shame ,, they were a dynamic duo .. loved the show i havent watched since .
I haven’t watched since last year. When Frank disappeared.. He was the everyday Dude. I don’t care for Mike at all.
Wolfe basically created the show. It's based on his idea to present stories, not only about the items they discover, but the people, and places they travel to.
Frank was an employee. I've worked with, and known, my share of alcoholics. Very sad, but also very difficult to deal with.
I've worked with many alcoholics and they were the most reliable, seldom missing a day of work and hardest working employees we had. But when quitin time came they were at the bar. I don't condone it but many non addicted employees could take a lesson on what it meant to be dependable and hard working
Wolfe seems like a cold man. They'v knowed each other over 40 years and this how he shows it. I can see know that he used him at the show. You didnt se a lot of "brotherhood" or even any nice words from Mike, frankly he was mean to him here and there, that suprised me. Sure at the beginning everything is new, fresh and excitment. So everything is good then. I know things change, but i thought by the way they were talking about memory lane here and there that they were solid friends no matter how bumpy the roads were. It always seemed that Fritz was "phoning it in". Minimum of interest and effort.
I watched like the first 12 or 13 seasons and Frank was always the one who low balled people the worst for their stuff.

Frank was my personal favorite. I have been through the some of the same battles and it’s hard. And like Frankie I didn’t have anyone stick by me. I like a lot of the same things as well.
I quit watching a few years ago only because the majority of the stuff they purchased were simply of no interest to me. One of my favorite episodes was when they were tasked with finding civil war relics. It killed me sometimes when I would see them walk right past an object that I would find interesting only for them to pick up a motorcycle part. Don’t get me wrong, it’s obvious the stuff they picked were of great interest to the majority of the audience and I don’t have a problem with that. I’m just saying it would have been nice if they expanded their vision of what was pickable.

Without Frank on the show now I wouldn't care at all if this show folded. It's not the same without Frank. And I think Mike Wolf had something to do with getting rid of Frank to bring his brother Robbie into the show more. Mike Wolfe is a backstabber
There are two sides to every story. Frank has some deep personal issues and Mike refuses to speak publicly about them. There are many seasons of reruns with Frank, who is reaping financial residual rewards from them. Mike Wolfe peddled this concept for five years before The History Channel took a gamble on him (Mike brought Frank along). Why wishing for something successful to fold is not being able to accept change. Life happens to every one of us.

I reckon it is a great show with the boys going around the world buying items and showing other great items I have never seen before Pluss the boys would always offer the people that was selling the items more money then they were trying to sell because they were a great team together and wouldn’t take any sellers down
Drunks don’t realize the hurt they cause until they hit rock bottom. Working with a drunk is the worst. Hope he’s telling the truth about having his drinking under control.

I miss Frank, but it seems that this Mike's idea and show from the beginning. Frank was brought on as a friend, someone for for Mike to play off of. Frank was kinda a cheapskate on his deals, while it seems that Mike would overpay for a lot of items. But they only Frank's losses on his deals, never Mike's. This was always Mike's show. It soon became apparent that Danielle came second, with Frank bringing up the rear. I think Mike was looking for a way to get rid of Frank, and unfortunately his surgery and addiction issues gave Mike and the network the out.

It's really good you summed this up with your "speculation" because everyone has one of those and somewhere far beyond that there is the truth.
Im in the quad cities quite often (work there on weekends, MMA shows, etc...) About 5-6 years back a few friends and I ran into Frank at bar in Davenport. Frank was a complete TOOL and had this "I'm larger then life, praise me" attitude. He even made some comments to my friends girlfriend and was LUCKY to leave with teeth that night. I strongly believe this was due to the fact he was drunk an really hope he gets his life back on track. Obviously TV makes things appear how they wish but I do believe there was a true friendship with him and Mike and hope that s gained back for them.
If Frank starts a show, it will be like CNN+, gone in a month.

anyone who thinks two people that have known each other and were "friends" for 40 years cant actually be this way, need to look at the Everly Brothers, its amazing they put out the music they did with the hate the two of them had for each other, dont believe me,? look it up.
And to add insult to injury, poor Frank has had a stroke, he had it in July and no one is talking about that either. So who knows what happened between him and Mike, they grew up together, this is all very sad. I do love Robbie though, he is a kick in the pants!

When a person is in the middle of a drinking addiction as well as chronic illnesses, the way in which they treat others my not have been so evident to himself. Also, accepting a person’s own behaviors and responsibility for these behaviors is a huge part of becoming a healthy sober person. Unfortunately, his blaming and negative remarks do not seem that he is at a healthy point in his life yet. Having a chronic illness also changes who a person is and how they communicate with others. Self awareness is a huge part of sobriety.
Don’t like either one of them, they take advantage often, also complain about bad picks and not making money, while taking in tons of cash for the show
I watched the show for years when it was on a channel that was part of my package. Mike was the significantly more knowledgeable picker of the duo and was always the one making favorable deals on the high dollar items. Fritz was successful in dealing for small items such as Hubley and its' ilk but made costly mistakes when it came to the purchase of items for thousands of dollars revealing a lack of understanding of his resale market in the case of vehicles and an inability to detect repairs in the case the case of the scarce train set and understand that such repairs would affect value. Nothing ever gave me the impression that Fritz had more than a minor; if any, interest in the stores that Mike operated. On those occasions when Dani went on picks, she displayed a broader knowledge of the value of old stuff than Fritz did over many shows.

Mike invented the show. Frank just had the good fortune to be Mike's friend when Mike needed another person to make the show work. Frank had ZERO influence on the creation of the show.

Always wondered how old Mike is. He's 58. My husband still watches the show, but I quit long ago, because sometimes Mike and Frank seemed so greedy, plus I heard it was all scripted.

Fritz always seemed to be irritatingly cheap when dealing with people selling their stuff. He use to piss me off and some sellers recognized how cheap he was.
