  • The Hymn of the Intercession, chanted during the Liturgy of the word (either St Basil, st Gregory or st Cyril) in the Coptic Orthodox Church, is a prayerful plea for the intercession of saints, especially the Virgin Mary, Archangels, Apostles, and martyrs. It asks for their prayers on behalf of the congregation, seeking God's mercy, grace, and protection. The hymn reflects the church's belief in the communion of saints, where the heavenly hosts pray alongside the faithful. It is a deeply reverent part of the liturgy, emphasizing unity within the Church and the heavenly intercessors' role in guiding and supporting believers.
This hymn is said, if time would permit, following the hymn of Tai Shore, Ti-shoori or Entho te ti-shoori. The verses vary from church to church, depending on the intercessor of the church and the size of the church (Bigger churches require more time for the round of incense to be completed, which means more verses can be said). Also if there is a feast, additional verses may be said.
