Thanks for watching! How Does the Golf R Compare to the new Focus RS? Check it out as we find out if the Focus RS is Hot or Not: ua-cam.com/video/ebpiQWf7wrc/v-deo.html
I have been watching this channel for years and you guys finally came to visit my hometown of Montreal haha I'm so happy! Great work you guys keep it up!
But they've been there before, almost exactly 3 years ago. They compared the Renegade and the Wrangler off road in the snow. ua-cam.com/video/9xAP0Oz2mho/v-deo.html
Unfortunately in Canada, depending where you live, studded tires are actually illegal. In Central/Southern Ontario they will result in a fine, no matter the road/driving conditions.
Just sold my '17 R. Great car, but I do wish they made a package for it to make it a little bit more shouty for those who want it for the price. But it really was a joy to drive.
Yeap the de-speccing in North American VW’s is obvious when you check out the specs. My reasoning is that everywhere else, VW is regarded as a semi premium brand, a step up from the run of the mill vehicles. However the US still thinks of VW as “cheap and cheerful”, and therefore vehicle pricing needs to reflect this.
Agreed. It's funny this channel talks about their pricing and why they do it. And yet, every car these guys review they compare the 2 price points. In America people pick cars based on price, they don't pick a car and work out the price (save their money)...
Here in Lake County Florida we have so many wonderful lakes we could drive on but I guess I'll have to wait for the Ice Age then I can take my seventeen-year-old golf out for a little fun without the four-motion
Look at all that understeer. PS, Haldex can only send 50% of the total engine power to the rear, or in VW marketing speak, up to 100% of the AVAILABLE power to the rear (if fronts are spinning, that 50% isn't available to be sent rearward). Former 3 time Golf R owner.
When are they bringing the '18 Golf R to the US ??? Its almost March and they still offer the 2017 model. And ashamed they won't bring the Golf R variant to US...it would be my next car....
Vincent Kecer My dealer told me there are 3,000 sitting at the port. The EPA won’t allow VW to sell them due to them wanting to do further emission testing due to the whole deiselgate scandal. I was pressing for an answer as well because they are in Canada. I guess the new transmission makes them need a new certification? Also held up is a VR6 Passat I think.
William Monto EU spec gets a little bump in HP...310 i thinks so not sure if we get the same in US....should have the digital instrument cluster same as Audi S3, which is cool....
I know VW engineered the crap out of these cars and account for everything and test everything to the bone, but man I'd still be nervous about the plastic oil pan on these motors. It's the main reason I don't lower my GTI at all living in Socal with some gruesome roads. My past cars could take a couple hits and be okay. I'm sure that composite plastic whatever oil pain holds up fine in the cold, but still makes me nervous
Been some good reviews on the Alltrack, its a sensible option..... but looking for a second car (next to my F-150) I don't need a sensible option, I need POWER! and the occasional fun of a Golf R or GTI ;)
DirectX3 Driving on icy lake is like downhill skiing. But It is hard to slow down the car drastically. When you push the breaks, then the tire melts the ice microcospically into water, like hard butter in a hot pan, and the car slides like a ski. Therefore the car will always slide on an ice sheet. You can add studs to the tires or use a smooth rubber coumpound with abrasive particules to promote more tire friction... but the ice will melt into liquid water again. To take a turn you need to plan ahead and lift you foot from the accelerator pedal to keep grip onto the ice sheet.
@ 1:54 round and round she goes, this 4 motion really blows...leave it to VW to make an awd system thats just as uncontrollable as thier fwd cars have always been...the original beatle was good in the snow

The Fast Lane Car could this mean the R will be released soon if VW gave a US reviewer the go ahead to release a video!!!! Awesome.
Golf R has a nicer interior than the Subarus or Focus, and therefore is more expensive.
nyhunter256 S. I never get tired of the road nose in my RS though... Some people just want to drive something fun and not necessarily refined.
I'm from Montreal and I'm so happy to see you have been there ! Amazing channel guys !
you are in mont tremblant NICE TO EAR FROM YOU GUYS
More Greatness from you guys! Thanks Roman and TFL team!

Great town and fantastic people

Indeed :-) In Mirabel, located in the limit of the Northern suburb of Montréal!

Compare the Volkswagen golf to the Volkswagen golf r
4Motion is a Haldex system. So I would expect these cars to be pretty good in the snow

the rain has setted in :( 2 weeks of rain after we had 2 weeks of -20 in december
So nice the Alltrack. ...dream car.
John Grytbakk Yeah I am quickly becoming a fan of it too. Definitely on my short list.
Me too. Likely my next purchase. Nice to see they're putting blind spot monitoring on the later 2018s
A Passat Alltrack in North America?
I can’t wait to try my Golf R in the snow!

Thank you for the answer....it crazy how much hard time they are giving
VW now because of the DG.....
Vincent Kecer I agree. I know the transmission is the new 7 speed. But I think the engine is a carryover?

Seems other manufacturers know enough to use a larger track .... those are tighter confines .... how much meat was on the tires?
Looking t0 buy a 17R with 90000kms. Can it go up to 200k?
Javier Mota 😎👌👍 he is a good reviewer. It’s nice to see you guys collaborate with other UA-cams. Great video 👍
That look like so mush fun I go for the golf R I nice looking ride thanks guys for great videos
What tires is the golf r using
Loved the video, in spite of how much I’d like to do something like this with my 4x4… I’m really chicken to that “Frozen Lake”
When did VW start letting us turn off traction control? Is it completely off? Thanks for the info and nice job on the videos!
All the top trim VW models get real ("Vienna") leather in Canada so the ones you tested most likely had the option
The only thing you need for snow fan, is a subaru sti with 3 mechanical lsd diffs!!!
Does the 2017 golf r have the same Halsey system as the 18 model?

Lol they make aftermarket oil pans
ecs skid plate has got your back
No Amarok V6 diesel in North America?
Why not VW?
David Burt yes , only Mexico have them!

Michelin X-Ice or Bridgestone Blizzak WS80s FTW.
We could also add Nokian with or with out studs.
Looks fun !
what is the part number for the small black lip on the bottom corner off the bumper at 6:42?
I miss my Jetta Tdi cup edition

Their styling is just so boring! Good video...
