It would be great if you could share a video of sealing different quilling pieces… especially for pieces that are not quilled tightly or larger pieces where the teardrops and other shapes have “openings” in the designs. I appreciate your quick responses 👏🏻

I especially liked the idea of putting a couple layers of Modge Podge over ornaments!! I hadn't thought of that!! Someone gifted me a quilled ornament made from magazine pages. Now I feel magazine pages and wonder if they are the right weight of paper for quilling. But even if they were, I wouldn't trust myself to be able to cut them straight. Have you ever cut your own paper?
Quilling is so beautiful & after a few practice shapes, I'm ready to dive in. I'd like to quill a simple scrolled/floral egg shape on heavy card stock for an Easter card. I wasn't sure if I build it directly on the cardfront or on wax paper then transfer as 1 piece? Also, I wasn't able to find any videos by anyone about finishing or how to help it hold up to handling/mailing/bending. You touched on using ModPodge for long term on the ornament here & in another vid you fortified with thicker edges & paper, what would you advise? Thanks for your extremely helpful & well organized tutorials. Your art is an inspiration & thanks for not disguising a product demo as a tutorial, pushing trendy short lived products over useful time-tested ones as so many do now. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for the kind words 😊 First, I would recommend building your quilling on wax paper before mounting to your final surface because that way you can make changes. As far as mailing, I like to use bubble mailers and also sandwich my quilling between 2 thin pieces of card board. I've never had any issues that way. If you do want to make double-thick paper for your edges, I've made a video about how I do that and why, you can watch that here 👉 ua-cam.com/video/gQnzgXpTv_Y/v-deo.html. And for sealant questions, I always refer people to HoneysQuilling.com . She's done loads of research on different sealants and has a lot of info about that. I don't tend to seal my work. I apologize for the confusion..when I ASSume...I'll KISS & double up edges & use waxed paper. Last questions-promise! Do you have a video on transferring? I can reign destruction with white glue & an Exacto! Finally, would making a more detailed template/mock-up vs. freestyle help me create within the boundaries of the project? I tend to get lost in freestyle creating, making improvements, changes, & mistakes..LOTS of mistakes...Did this happen to you in the beginning? Thanks again.
I’m not sure what you mean by transferring. Maybe moving from the wax paper to the final surface? I’ve shown it a few times. What I do is run my needle tool between the quilling and wax paper to release it, snip any exceeds dried glue off with small scissors, and apply small dots of glue to the back, then mount. Also, I prefer using a more freestyle design, but if going in with a plan works better for you, stick with that. And have fun!

I don't seal very often but when I do I use a small paint brush and just apply it very lightly. When crafters ask about sealants, I like to direct them to HoneysQuilling.com as she's done loads of research on the subject and has lots of tips on her page. I hope that helps!
Foil will be a tricky one to get glue to stick to. I haven’t tried to get quilling to stick to it myself so I don’t have any real suggestions. Have you tried E6000? It’s a very strong glue that can bond metal, stone, or plastic, but it’s a little messy. I usually use tiny dots applied with a toothpick but I’ve never used it with quilling. Maybe try a test batch and see how that works? I’d love to hear how it comes out! Sorry I can’t be more help with this one!

I'm new to quilling and have watched many many beginning videos. They don't say what length of paper is used. Is there a chart or something that helps?
I can’t speak for other creators, but I will mention the length of the strips I’m using for each shape in every project. Unfortunately, I don’t know of any easy reference that will tell you exactly the length of paper you will need for all projects, because paper uncoils differently depending on the brand, weight of the paper, even the color can make a difference. With practice, you can start to guess based on trial and error, but even now after many years, whenever I start a new design I take lots of notes so I can make adjustments and sometimes I’ll have to redo a shape because it’s just not the right size.
Hi Meredith! Have you heard of Art Glitter Glue? It doesn’t have any glitter in it that’s just the name. It comes in a bottle with the needle nose as you suggest in your video & it dries super fast. I’m new to quilling but not new to card making and Art Glitter Glue seems to be popular with card creators. I was just wondering if there’s a reason why I shouldn’t use Art Glitter Glue for my quilling. Thanks!
Great question! Spray glue does exist and it is great for some paper crafts, but I think it would be pretty hard to control for quilling and it can be pretty wet so it can cause wrinkles. I only use spray adhesive when I’m gluing something flat to something else flat, like a patterned paper to a background for mounting quilling on later.

I use Aleene's Tacky glue in the Needle tip bottle all the time for my Quilling Projects - Comes out fine

Do you have a glue that will attach my quills to foil caedstock? The Aileens and Elmers are not bonding permanently. Thank you.

I’ve never heard of that so I can’t say for sure, but I would think if you like it for cards it should work for quilling too 🙂
