  • A friend allowed me to harvest the abundance of plums that she had and after stewing them, freezing some and making jam I thought I’d have a go at making wine. Oh my! It is delicious, I only wish I’d made more!

This seems so simple and straight-forward. I'm definitely trying it.

I like simple recipes, I don’t want lots of ‘extras’ in things I consume. I think that’s the beauty of making it yourself, you are in control. This wine tastes delicious too, one of my favourite wines.

Hahaha 😁 love the way you tried to pour it through a sieve, and then decided it wouldn't work🤗🤣. Was like being in the kitchen with a friend 💝🌹. Thank you for that imperfection 😁🤗🍾. Can't wait to try making my own plum 🍑🍉🍎🍒🍓🍋🍈 wine 🍷😋

Thank you for your lovely comment. Not sure what was going through my head when I tried to pour it through the sieve at that angle! 🤪🤪 I hadn’t been drinking it , honest!🤣🤣

It was so good to see you try something that was obviously not going to work! It's so discouraging to watch recipe videos where everything is done perfectly, because it's never that way when I try it myself!😄 The way you did it was so refreshing 🥰 and just like being with a friend in the kitchen as we try it together 😄 So much better than any other videos I've watched! Does the lid need to be tight shut for the first few days? And does the airlock in the demijohn need a small amount of water in it to show the bubbles? I think I remember that from my dad's homemade wine making.🍷🍷🌹💝

I used to think I had common sense but I’m not so sure now! The lid doesn’t have to be tight although I tend to as I don’t want to encourage fruit flies and yes you do need water or glycerine on the airlock. I always use water. Glad you enjoyed it.

How long did you leave it in the demijohns before bottling? Making a batch for the first time today:)

It can vary depending on the ‘batch’. You will probably need to rack it off-transferring into another Demi John leaving the sediment behind- to give a clearer wine. I would say 3-6 months in the Demi John, basically once the airlock is no longer going’plop’. Then age for at least another 6 months. Hope this helps:)
