Two main reasons why CV90 was chosen: 1. The autocannon it uses right 'out of the box' is the same one as the one Lithuania got for their wheeled boxers (bushmaster 30mm). Also the exact same spike-LR anti-tank missiles and launchers. So very seamless integration of that, plus same ammo supply. 2. There was terrain traversal testing done, with multiple models of tracked IFVs from various countries. CV90 proved to be the best at traversing the more difficult parts of Lithuania's terrain, like swamplands and such. So all in all it wasn't that difficult of a decision to make.
Congrats on your future channel plans. You're doing well and if you do have time and it makes sense financially, I'm very happy that you plan to expand, so to speak.
The French CTA40 cannon looks amazingly powerful, it's being used on AJAX for the UK and french wheeled IFVs, I'd really like to see it trialled on the Boxer/Wilkas unit - the one cannon has more range, ammunition types to cover antiarmer, antipersonnel, buildings and an air defense round. One point to make about tracked vehicles, they have a very different maintenance and reliability profile to wheeled vehicles, even really good german engineered ones are much more demanding than wheeled vehicles. So only use tracks when only tracks will do.
@@LithuaniaExplained the other element to be mindful of is how thirsty tracked vehicles are. A large truck with a trailer might do 20-30litres of diesel per 100km. And wheeled armour like a Boxer will be closer to that bracket. But a leopard 2 is 5litres per 1km… 500km from its 1000ltr tank. Which then has to be filled by a tanker.
CV90 is time and battle tested platform thats the main reason to pick it over tracked boxer. Also tracked boxer would be more expensive and while some parts would be the same as Vilkas, the majority would not, as it is very diferent plantform.
I know a guy who operates one of these as a gunner in Lithuania. They dont seem to bring them out for practice very often, relying mostly on simulators. I wish they had more budget for actual training.
Curious why we didn't go with CV90s right away. As long as there's something to replace the M113s, though! Also, very much looking forward to the new channel
I think the CV90 is the better choice over the boxer due to its 40mm armament which allows for programmable ammunition. It's also a purpose build IFV with better protection and frontline capabilities. I'm from the Netherlands and my goverment also chose the CV90 instead of more boxers whom mainly serve supporting roles.
Hey man, how much for rent $$$ for an aparment in vilnius for a single man and how much is a coffee with a sandwich in the nearby bakery? Asking for German Infantry, thanks
we will have cv90 and tanks like leo. both tracked. vilkas is wheeled very good as same ammo. wheeled cant go frontal attacks ends bad. tracked cv90 go behind leo tanks. fpv just another weapon system in battle, can be jammed, or simple shotgun guns them down. also we must buy gepards. ukr used them wrong in war sadly. they must also come in same attack pack, nowadays also jamming on tanks armor, seen some usa stuff microwaves on hammer. point is tracked more armored machines which covered by gepards from helicopters and also jammers rolling from fpv. nothing change in battle tactics. best defence is offence.
Still the Lithuania bought the tanks Leopard in general amount 44. Just tell me how do they defend them from Russian drones and jets. The Lithuania has no jets. The Ukraine also denys the meaning of heavy armour at modern warfare. The Abrams M1 is simple useless overthere. Instead "out of date" Braedley is high valued by Ukrainians
@ZhylvisLT you are pretty smart if you think Frenchmen with Englishmen and other Danishes come to help in some different way , than they did at 1939 September 01. Ask for damn Ukrainians what do they need: they answered many times already: 1. IFV Bradley M2. The Abrams is usrless piece of junk, coz Ukrainians have no sufficient amount of jets 2) Drones and missles at least 700 km far shooting distance 3) Patriots 4) Platoon, campaign and batallion level moŕtars . 5) Electronic reconaissance devices. The Russian had 14.000 tanks at June 1941 and they were smashed by Wehrmacht with 3000 their "advanced" tanks what best ones ( hundred or teo) were slightly better than T26. I strongly suspect that business like Lithuanian generals hunt the "back up" money from the Reihnmetall. The Lithuania on the march🤣🤣🤣

Tanks are important but they're not very multirole, IFVs are generally used 3:1 or more with tanks to give the right mix of firepower and manoeuvre, remember the only asset that can hold towns and buildings are infantry and they can't ride in a tank.
Because they keep your infantry alive and can do a very wide variety of mission due to their speed, mobility and the amount of crew they can carry. Ukraine's relatively high infantry losses early in the war are in no small part due to the fact that they were short on IFVs and APCs. Which typically save infantry from the 2 most common causes of death: shrapnel and small arms fire, both of which are plentiful in wartime. Tanks have a very specific role. It's a heavy supporting unit for punching through fortified defenses, destroying heavy armor and the like. Good supporting unit for punching through fortifications, attacking/counter-attacking to take a town for example. Destroying well armored vehicles. Completely different roles.
