With quiet PC Cases becoming more common, it would be really cool if you guys did a head to head. Say Silent Base 600/800 vs. Define R5 vs. Carbide 400Q vs. etc. Especially the temps with identical fans / fan configs and noise from the front and side panel would be cool to compare IMO.
I like this review a lot. And I get the point about water cooling, but the thing is that these cases are sold to people who want incredibly quiet machines. Water cooling, because it has so many moving parts, is noisy. So, I get that it sucks that water cooling isn't all that supported by this case, but that's really not what it's supposed to do.
Bought this case in silver looks great. ended up not bothering getting the top off and stuck to 3 fans on the case. love the quietness though and looks amazing
Wow, after this review I bought this case. It is so quiet that I can keep my child in there while I'm trying to watch a movie 5/5 pirated mad max on my laptop. Didn't hear a sound.
(sorry if I copy past my request to all the buyers but I meet answers urgently ^^') What CPU+GPU you use and how are the temperature? Someone told me that it could have 10C° more than standard cases and have an airflow return on top... But I need a windowed case with three 5,25 bays and this is the only one still easy to find and also good (except the obsidian 750d but is bigger)
This case needs some Dremel and saw work. Front chassis area where the restriction happens and on the top. Great review Dmitry! I especially liked the overlay on the top showing what position the venting slits are in relation to the fans. Bang on!
I don't know what you're talking about when you say it is not water cooling friendly. I did a 240 AIO water cooled setup with the radiator and fans top mounted. granted I had to put the radiator and fans in last to make connections, but you can still get them to fit and it stills stays relatively quiet. I used a Captain 240 and the whole thing works rather well. It took about 2 hours to get everything set up, including time spent troubleshooting a windows install error.

I've got a 240mm corsair h100i gtx setup to intake air on the top of the case and haven't had an issue with it. It's still very quiet and doesn't seem to be chocked for air at all. I fully agree about cable management however.
Looking at this video, I am glad that I purchased my Fractal design R5. Like it's look, a lot of functional design features, super silent. The be quite case tries to do this and at some point it does it, but the minuses it has are not supposed to be in this "type" of cases. Anyhow, I am big fan of be quite products!
Man, I agree a bit on stuff like the radiator space and cable management but my god... I just bought this case in 2020 and my wife is over the fucking moon with how quiet it is. We have had disputes about having the computer in the living room or if I'd be banished to the guest room and I am happy to say this case keeps me nice and comfy downstairs :)

+Sweeds Can you message me with how easy or hard it was to build in? I usually don't build in Antec's for others but I think the s10 will sell really well.
+Sweeds Well, at least you got an amazing looking case out of it. I've got it's long distant relative, a Silverstone TJ10, which is awfully dated by today's standards (yay no cable management room whatsoever and no room for SSDs anywhere). Don't ask what this thing cost back in the day. Just shipping was like $80 USD.
Could it be? Critisism? On HardwareCanucks? I pray to god this trend continues. The negatives are far more important than the positives. Or is the case just that bad?
+Dao Quang I have the R5, R4, Base 800 and this case... hardware is important, but with the same hardware, this case is quieter than the Fractal. The fractal is a great case but makes more noise with the same hardware at the inlets for the front. just my experience.
On pcpartpicker, I made a build guide using a 980ti and this case. It states that drive bays will have to be taken out to accommodate the space needed by the gpu. If anybody has this case, could you please tell me if it can accomadate a 980ti without taking out drive bays or anything else. Thanks
+Jaden Hamer Clearance is around 30 cm. I have a Silent Base 800, a bit taller, but same length of 49.5 cm so I imagine both cases have same measurements when it comes to inner clearance. I am checking to buy a 980 Ti right and it seems most of them exceed 30 cm (31 to 31.5 cm for Asus, Gigabyte, Zotac ecc...). So yes you do need to remove the middle drive bay. You can still install Hard Disks in the lower bays and also install an SSD or upside down on the top of the lower bay or the side panel behind the motherboard (up to two SSD) where you route your cables (a bit messy, but invisible anyway). Beside that, I really recommend Be Quiet case specially the 800 Series Orange with Plexiglas side window.
for my needs almost perfect. only the front intake needs less of those metal frame things for better airflow. And bit more care for able mamanegement. Than it is realy good.
Great review as always! If you guys have the possibility, can you try reviewing the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 Rev.B case? I'm interested in knowing how hard or simple the assembly process is and how silent the case is. Thanks.
That sound test was Awesome! *but* make it a comparison between this Be quiet case and a standard reference one. So far this is not so relevant info. I'm curious mainly about mini ITX noise performance compared to this
You do realize on be quiet's own website it states "Water cooling ready for high-performance systems. Radiators can be installed at the top, in the HDD section and at the rear of the case" For the silent base 600 series.
I just bought a silent base 600 and a dark power pro 11, and cabbage, it's become a damn silent pc!!! I want to add another 140mm bequiet fan to allow a slightly better airflow, do you recommend putting it in the front as an intake or on the top as an exhaust? Please HardwareCanucks answer
I almost bought this case last week, but I went with the define s instead. I do t like how you can see the hdd cages from the window of the silent base and the open layout of the define s looks so much more clean. My pc may no be dead silent but its damn near close. the loudest thing in it is actually the hard drive...
I've got an Air 540 and it's really quiet. Reason being though, I've got an Asus Strix line card, and a Corsair RM series power supply. Unless I'm gaming, there's just a few fans spinning at moderate rates.
I really hope they work on the internals of the case. its a very nice looking case but it just doesn't support the features that i want. I love the large window on it A+
+Huehuehue I can also vouch for that! I've gotten it and i've hade it since summer 2015 and it's been great, lots of fan mounts, harddrive mounts, and the included fans are relatively quiet. It also has a very nice look. +1
Gurjot Bajwa No, I have Noctua NH-D15 and I control my fans through bios and software. Still loud as heck for my ears, but that is also because I have open back headphones.
Would you consider doing a quiet case round up of this, the 800 model, the Fractal Define R5 and NZXT H440 (new model)? There is nowhere comparing these machines for quietest model running skylake. cpus and 980Ti cards! Loved the review otherwise!
A word of warning to anyone getting this case: don't put an AIO cooler on that back exhaust point, it'll make things a whole lot louder if the case is anything like the 800 :P Otherwise, top notch case series!
They didn't evolve enough from the SB800 and improve upon its shortcomings. Be Quiet! has a lot to do to catch up here. They are using the same internal base chassis as the Corsair 300R.
I would like to see a video to compare different sistems with the same components inside and see how much is the difference, like for example compared to de define r5 and the h440
just ordered this case, going to be a pain to put my stuff in but at least it will be super quiet, I got the version without the glass, so it's going to be even quieter? lol
JaneyGames I love mine. But recently had to add more fans. Intake and exhaust. Not enough air flow by default out of the box. Mind you, I had this silent base 600 for over year, never an issue with fan screaming from my rx 480. Temps were manageable. Same for my 6600k. Recently upgraded to a Vega 64 strix and things went out of control. Not really an issue from the silent base itself, more about the gpu itself. So don’t forget that you may have to install additional fans to keep the air flow going to reduce the temperatures in the case. And ... yes even decked out with maximum fans (seven silent wings 140mm) it’s super quiet.
Great video like always I'm torn between using a mini-itx corsair 380T or a be quiet! Silent Base. It would be nice if be quiet came with a mini-itx case designed in a similar way than the 380T, maybe with the help of another car company? Thanks for the vid !
What would be the best Air Cooler for performance and silence? I have the Silent Base 800 with a 120mm AIO in the top but it still gets pretty hot due to air starvation and consequently, its pretty damn loud at load. Any help is much appreciated! :D
+902d So what you are basically saying is: If you put a damn disel engine in there,it will be loud,oh really Cpt. Obvious? For sure its loud if you fuck up fancurves...a pc is just as silent as its components are.....
+902d Depends on which 980 Ti you are getting after all,the reference can still be silent but will be overheating,a 980 Ti with a custom cooler mostly will be silent most of the time due to 1. just starting the fans at 60°C and 2. silent fans after all,and which point did you prove? That something is loud if you make it loud? As i said: Cpt. Obvious... its just a CASE with like 2mm sound dampening meterial,it will make the pc less noisy, but after all,its about the components
Question: would water cooler really be that important for a case which is designed to dampen sound? Water cooling is going to be way quieter in general and thought it would've made sense if it was more directed at people using fans since they'd make more noise.
I don't feel like it should have to accommodate for water cooling because a case like this is basically marketed towards people who will be air cooling
Hi man, i really appreciate your videos - they're awesome! You should definetely check SilentiumPC Aquarius M60W and Gladius M45W, I am really curious what would you say about those, especially considering their price range. Thank you if you ever make a video about one of these, they dont really get any attention they deserve I would say! :D
Love your videos Have recently been planning my first build and found your reviews to be excellent and very informative. There is one case I'd really like to see reviewed now that it is on the market, the Thermaltake core x31(preferably the RGB edition but either would be awesome). I can't seem to find any proper reviews of it. Thanks.
Could you make a comparison with the define r5? Both for silence level and user friendly type of stuff (cable management, fan installations and airflow)
This case had so much potential if they only thought about watercoolung potentials. Great review Dmitry as always! Man so close but for the price point. I would have to pass.
so if you had a recommendation for a case July 2017, what would it be. I'm a home user, I watch UA-cam vidoes, play some music, but I (at this point) do not watch movies or TV on it. I'm not a liquid cool person so what is the best, coolest (tempurature), and quietest I can put together? You pointed out so many things wrong with this one, I'm nervous to try it. I have only built one computer so I'm not that good at it and would appreciate any help. Thank you.
It would take me a while to get used to the "sound of silence". I think I would be checking the case many times a day to make sure all the fans where working properly.
I can see how this case competes with the Define R5. Many of the design is quite similar but I prefer my Define R5 over this case. I still seriously love Be Quiet fans but just not their cases.
So many design overlooks. Wrong price bracket imo! It's amazing how those manufacturers still design and release products like there's no competition on the market!
+Ventsislav Simonov In this case there IS no competition on the market because the only cases that could hope to compete with this are Coolermaster's Silencio line, and even those have many flaws of their own. These cases are geared towards SILENCE. Not value, not build quality, not being a pleasant case to work in. They're built to be as quiet as possible without sacrificing aesthetics.
you should add noises while you run the silent test to have a reference.. like opening a can, clicking a mouse, etc..
With quiet PC Cases becoming more common, it would be really cool if you guys did a head to head.
Say Silent Base 600/800 vs. Define R5 vs. Carbide 400Q vs. etc.
Especially the temps with identical fans / fan configs and noise from the front and side panel would be cool to compare IMO.
my pc was too loud to hear the noise test XD

I like this review a lot. And I get the point about water cooling, but the thing is that these cases are sold to people who want incredibly quiet machines. Water cooling, because it has so many moving parts, is noisy. So, I get that it sucks that water cooling isn't all that supported by this case, but that's really not what it's supposed to do.
I love how the case comes with a built in plant on the top. Very green...!
Bought this case in silver looks great. ended up not bothering getting the top off and stuck to 3 fans on the case. love the quietness though and looks amazing
Hardwarecanucks is my favorite review channel when it comes to PC. Thank you so much for all your quality videos. Keep the good work going!
Wow, after this review I bought this case. It is so quiet that I can keep my child in there while I'm trying to watch a movie 5/5 pirated mad max on my laptop. Didn't hear a sound.

This case needs some Dremel and saw work. Front chassis area where the restriction happens and on the top. Great review Dmitry! I especially liked the overlay on the top showing what position the venting slits are in relation to the fans. Bang on!
I hope they make an updated version with tons more expandability and all the suggestions you had, and a blue version!
You get better by video. Love to see your work here!
I don't know what you're talking about when you say it is not water cooling friendly. why would a company that is famous for their air cooling made a case that is water cooling friendly : P
Just bought mine on sale! I'm replacing my old case that sounds like a jet engine. Can't wait to get it and see the difference!
(sorry if I copy past my request to all the buyers but I meet answers urgently ^^')

very nice case. I did a new build with a fractal r5 blackout case and it runs whisper silent if you don't open the top. helluva case.
Looking at this video, I am glad that I purchased my Fractal design R5. Like it's look, a lot of functional design features, super silent. Too many drawbacks to be an option for me... Despite me being an air cooler guy and not using AIO water coolers.
Great review, as always.
Cheers.
Love the looks of this case especially the fans.
I've been building a new pc and almost bought this last week on a sale. Got the Nanoxia Deep Silence 1 instead. Waiting eagerly for delivery.
The plant is back! Love it...
Is it just me or do orange an black systems look the best?
only u
I would like have seen a comparison between, " What you actually hear" with the system off and on. Other than that great review!
Man, I agree a bit on stuff like the radiator space and cable management but my god... I just bought this case in 2020 and my wife is over the fucking moon with how quiet it is. I'd suggest grabbing some adhesive backed cable tie mounts. They work nicely behind motherboard trays.
Holy mother of reviews, you did a perfect job Dmitry!
I'm picking up the fractal r5 and after seeing this, I'm very happy with my choice
I am early! Quick,let's make a joke!
Antec case prices!

This case is ok but i think be quiet has to work on it more!
+Clashtrix Yes 100%
+HardwareCanucks for other side it is only be quiets 2. base they've ever constucted
You should have put the SSD underneath that top shelf thing instead of on top of it. At least, that is what I did, and it fits perfectly.
You can never be too quiet :p
+Karl Conrad Go home Karl.
+Karl Conrad that's what she said :b
Could it be? Critisism? On HardwareCanucks?
I pray to god this trend continues. The negatives are far more important than the positives. Or is the case just that bad?
+c0mpact We never hold back! Welcome to the channel :D
I got a silent base 600 from 2012, and in fact... it is extremely nice, but... I am looking for new parts, new colors to make it even cooler looking
Despite its drawbacks, is it quieter than the R5 with the same PC Hardware?
Don't think so. Importance factor: Quiet Hardware > Case
HardwareCanucks thanks. Then I'll go with quiet hardware and a cheaper quiet case.
+HardwareCanucks DEEPCOOL GENOME review soon?
+Dao Quang be quiet fans and psu are the reason the case is so quiet.
+Dao Quang I have the R5, R4, Base 800 and this case... hardware is important, but with the same hardware, this case is quieter than the Fractal. The fractal is a great case but makes more noise with the same hardware at the inlets for the front. just my experience.

I used a 980 Ti in this build. Clearance is fine.
+HardwareCanucks depends if he is talking about referance or non reference
+Jaden Hamer Clearance is around 30 cm. I have a Silent Base 800, a bit taller, but same length of 49.5 cm so I imagine both cases have same measurements when it comes to inner clearance. I am checking to buy a 980 Ti right and it seems most of them exceed 30 cm (31 to 31.5 cm for Asus, Gigabyte, Zotac ecc...). So yes you do need to remove the middle drive bay. +Fadi Bassil
Looking at the video at the 5:00 minute mark, I'd agree with your assessment.
+Jaden Hamer If you use the reference 980ti, that Dimitri is using, you will be fine, not sure about other 980ti's
Seems ultra quiet, would a Thermaltake Core x9 or W100 be quiet too or just get this?
Looks nice, I love this amber power button light :)
for my needs almost perfect. only the front intake needs less of those metal frame things for better airflow.
I'm curious mainly about mini ITX noise performance compared to this
Criticism on point. I have the silentbase 800 version and I really agree on your points!
+Robert Watt Same here. I have the 800 and the lack of wire management on the back side is a bit of a pain...but I love this case and how quiet it is.
Linus - heavy breathing
You should test the dB under load were the fans would ramp up, it's easy to be quiet at idle.
You do realize on be quiet's own website it states "Water cooling ready for high-performance systems. Radiators can be installed at the top, in the HDD section and at the rear of the case" For the silent base 600 series.
I have the big brother Silent base 800...its very good in my opinion ! :)
Some cool features. I really like the window. But overall, not a fan.
Highwalker not a fan? What do you mean it has 2 fans built in ;)
What case would you recommend for simple air-cooling? I'm not sure if I'm ready for air cooling
Unless I'm gaming, there's just a few fans spinning at moderate rates.
wow 4k Great Job Dimitry!
+ASUS-STRiX ok i need to realize that my 0,2 mbit download isnt enogh for 4k ..or FHD ...or HD
I optimized my fans in my case and a glorious short moment it were so quit I could hear the electric buzz from my monitor being turned on.
+Oscar Stensballe Might look into BeQuit once they make better cases and update their fans.
+Oscar Stensballe The Silent Wings 2 120mm don't need updating. They run full speed under 16 db with good static pressure.
I really hope they work on the internals of the case. its a very nice looking case but it just doesn't support the features that i want. I love the large window on it A+
This case is one of best cases i've seen, it look cool and is silent now the price
I have this, it is awesome.
My current rig is a freaking air horn, it's loud as heck. I think this case + 1 additional fan for the top would be really nice.
+TheVoitokas get the define r5, it's awesome
Huehuehue Yeah I though about that case as well. Both are really nice and quiet. I just need something as my pc makes so, so much noise.
+TheVoitokas Are you using a stock cooler? Get a fan controller too.

Loved the review otherwise!
A word of warning to anyone getting this case: don't put an AIO cooler on that back exhaust point, it'll make things a whole lot louder if the case is anything like the 800 :P
Otherwise, top notch case series!

Really awesome video editing in this vid. Good job man!
I think the case looks super cute with the plant on top, for some reason :P
the side panel window doesn't look like acrylic. it doesn't look clear and it is highly reflective. hence it passes your nail test.
Maybe there'll be a 602 this year or next year with tons of improvements!
just ordered this case, going to be a pain to put my stuff in but at least it will be super quiet, I got the version without the glass, so it's going to be even quieter? lol
JaneyGames I love mine. But recently had to add more fans. Intake and exhaust. Not enough air flow by default out of the box. So don’t forget that you may have to install additional fans to keep the air flow going to reduce the temperatures in the case. And ... yes even decked out with maximum fans (seven silent wings 140mm) it’s super quiet.
You should not install radiator on intake, it will raise the temperature of the case significantly. Install radiators on exhaust only.
bullshit, for sources go watch jayztwocents' video on it
Quiet, but with quiet comes low airflow. Does it run hotter? Also, where are you located by the way?
Great video like always I'm torn between using a mini-itx corsair 380T or a be quiet! Silent Base. It would be nice if be quiet came with a mini-itx case designed in a similar way than the 380T, maybe with the help of another car company? Thanks for the vid !
What would be the best Air Cooler for performance and silence? I have the Silent Base 800 with a 120mm AIO in the top but it still gets pretty hot due to air starvation and consequently, its pretty damn loud at load. Any help is much appreciated! :D
another great review any idea if you are going to do a budget gaming pc this year?
If you OC the stock 980ti and adjust decent fan curves it will make a whole lot of noise. I mean A LOT.
+902d So what you are basically saying is: If you put a damn disel engine in there,it will be loud,oh really Cpt. Obvious? For sure its loud if you fuck up fancurves...a pc is just as silent as its components are.....
TiMeJ34nD1T
And 980ti is loud af, point proven
+902d Depends on which 980 Ti you are getting after all,the reference can still be silent but will be overheating,a 980 Ti with a custom cooler mostly will be silent most of the time due to 1. just starting the fans at 60°C and 2. silent fans after all,and which point did you prove? That something is loud if you make it loud? As i said: Cpt. Obvious... its just a CASE with like 2mm sound dampening meterial,it will make the pc less noisy, but after all,its about the components
TiMeJ34nD1T
Even running stock 980ti will be loud when given max load.
+902d everything will be more or less loud when you put full load on it, overclock it or cool it badly. i dont get what youre trying to say :D
Question: would water cooler really be that important for a case which is designed to dampen sound? Water cooling is going to be way quieter in general and thought it would've made sense if it was more directed at people using fans since they'd make more noise.
Hey Dimitri, have you taken a look at any nanoxia cases? I am building in a deep silence 5 right now and it is awesome.
This video is dope, good job Dmitry! I am waiting for filming tips pt 3 :D
+kiaTech thanks :D Filming Tips 3 coming soon :)
+HardwareCanucks I feel so good when you reply, thanks man for making my day :)
You could probably use some type of spacer to mount a radiator in the front.
It would great as well if you could always include all the parts you used in PC case reviews.
I don't feel like it should have to accommodate for water cooling because a case like this is basically marketed towards people who will be air cooling
I had so much hope for this case :c
I'm looking for a silent case!
would be cool to see a sound test in the fractal r5 with the same hardware and fans and to compare it to this
Hi man, i really appreciate your videos - they're awesome!
Thanks.
Damn, I like the looks. Hoope you didn't pass out while holding your breath :)
+MrRaivokasMagma With the magic of editing i removed the part where i pass out in the corner of the room....
Could you make a comparison with the define r5? Both for silence level and user friendly type of stuff (cable management, fan installations and airflow)
I have the Silent Base 800 and it's awesome. But the harddrive cages are annoying. I had to drop the top cage to fit my 980 :(
I thought the quietest case was the define r5? Or? Just asking coz im making a fully quiet build soon.
I would get it, currently looking for a smaller quite case, but my H105 won't fit up top I don't think
I own that case and my 240 MM rad fits on the top
+Leonhard Say do you think my H105 will fit? I have a msi z97 gaming 5 Mobo and Corsair Vengeance ram?
not going to lie this case from just aesthetics seems really good
Not sure if it's just me being away for a while form watching your guy's videos, but isnt the music too loud ?

Companies have finally made Dimitri proof side panels a normal thing
This case had so much potential if they only thought about watercoolung potentials. Great review Dmitry as always! Man so close but for the price point. I would have to pass.
Watercooling*
best case ever, too bad its not available in my country..
so if you had a recommendation for a case July 2017, what would it be. Thank you.
Does this look a bit sparse when not water cooled?
It would take me a while to get used to the "sound of silence". I think I would be checking the case many times a day to make sure all the fans where working properly.
I can see how this case competes with the Define R5. Many of the design is quite similar but I prefer my Define R5 over this case.
I still seriously love Be Quiet fans but just not their cases.
this case doesn't even have top insulation...
Time for a new logo HardwareCanucks! Y'all are too good and professional to look like that! (no offense to the little guy in the current logo)
Great vid! But you should have compared it to your main system :) then we would know what the difference would be.
I'm here with my jet PC.
