Guatemala is an amazing country that gets very little publicity. It's history, people and culture are amazing! Thanks for the video.

Thank you so much for making this video on Guatemala, even if it had some sensitive topics.

Awesome. You left out a lot of the gruesome details but well done. Giving a warm welcome feeling. The Guatemalan people ARE warm and welcoming.

Guatemala's been on my list for a while but struggled to find suggestions on what itinerary I should plan out. This really helped, and sadly I don't think my original 2 weeks would be enough. I'd need more to absorb everything this anthropology nerd would want to experience

that's probably every country, but you're lucky enough to go. Enjoy it!

I visited Guatemala in July. It was awesome and I fell in love with the country and its people. The last few days seem to have been a bit rough for democracy in Guatemala I guess. As I do not speak Spanish really well I don’t understand the whole problem of what’s going on right now. Sadly my country’s media is currently focused on the Middle-East conflict (Important as well of course). Twitter / X is only partly informative if you’re not fluent in Spanish or well informed in Guatemalan politics. Do you know any English sources that report daily?. If not, you could make a video..maybe? :) Cheers.

Unfortunately, there's not many good sources in English. But the gist of it is this. There's an elite that very much wants to keep controlling the country and through their control of various institutions disqualified most candidates they thought could beat their candidate (Sandra Torres). The one guy they did not disqualify, Bernardo Arévalo, came out of nowhere to get to the second round and then won outright by nearly 20 points. Despite this, the country's attorney general has tried all kinds of tricks to prevent him from taking office in January 2024 by claiming there was fraud and seizing the actual votes from the country's electoral office (something which is illegal). They have also claimed that Arévalo's political party, Semilla (Seed in English) committed fraud by including fake signatures in its registration and had tried to ban it. In response, there have been massive protests demanding that the attorney general (Ministerio Publico) along with others in her office resign. It is not yet clear what will happen as a result (if anything) or if the AG will succeed in preventing Arévalo from taking office.

Castillo Armas “For worse” and USAC being the most prestigious university is so wrong jajaja

    •  2 місяці тому

Unless you think the authoritarianism of the 50’s, 60s and 70s as a good thing Castillo Armas was terrible for the country and the university of san carlos is the university with the highest ranking in QS.
