Thanks for this interesting collection of films, some quite rare. For anyone who can't make it out, the 3rd movie is Yes Yes Nanette, with Oliver Hardy and co-directed by Stan Laurel. The first, A Lucky Dog, has the erroneous title card that has been added. The film was made and released in 1921 and directed by Jess Robbins.

You see...to be a comedian you don't have to be dirty. To have a good laugh, a good and clean joke must come from a good heart.

Telling a dirty joke doesn’t mean you have a “bad heart”. There’s something for everybody to enjoy.

I believe some if not all of these would have been produced in Jacksonville, FL. It was Hollywood before there was Hollywood.

Was "The Count from Switzerland" at 12:24 Oliver Hardy with thick fake eyebrows?

I didnt think so, but the credit screen says "Stan Laurel with Oliver Hardy", so he is somewhere in the film, and that appears to be the only part he could be cast in.

I think some of the scenes from the first film are missing. Some parts make no sense. Why do all the dogs suddenly come running out? What is with the man under the table and the title car saying "there is always a crumb under the table". Even if that's a period joke, it seems very random and out of place.
Funny to think that when these films were new, they were crisp and sharp, high quality pictures. Everyone thinks that silent films always looked like this, blurry and full of flaws,, but that's actually just because the film degrades with age. We're actually lucky that any of these old films survived. Many didn't. The film decays, and for a period of several decades they were just a bunch of obsolete old films that could no longer make money and were not worth saving. Obviously a movie cannot be art or have a higher value, they are just for entertainment! So hundreds were thrown out, or destroyed, whether on purpose or through decay and fire.

I saw a program somewhere recently on old films and how there was an old theater in Canada that was the end of the line for films. They made it to that theater, were shown a few times, then they took them out in field behind the theater and BURIED them in the ground. They didn’t have to return anywhere after showing they were junk. They were digging up a lot of them and finding some reels of films that there were no copies left anywhere.

Never really liked Laurel and Hardy. The only movie I liked was a silent of them selling Christmas trees in Hollywood out of a Model T truck and getting into a fight with that little cross- eyed guy

@@residentalien7055 A person can have a _different_ sense of humor and still be an amusing person. Some people just dont like the slapstick humor as well as dry humor, or British humor, or whatever. Not everyone has to like what you like to have good taste. As to why he came here, it was probably in his recommended videos, or next on a playlist. He thought, 'ok I'll give it another try, maybe I will like it better this time'. But instead his previous impression was confirmed. I have done the same.

I know the one you mean, good one. I can sort of agree. I don't like L&H as well as, say, Chaplin, but they are entertaining enough to watch, and now and them make me LOL, which is unusual for me (usually I laugh inside).

I guess I just wanted to mention that one movie. That particular silent movie was very good.
Don’t know the name of it. Selling Christmas trees in Hollywood. They ended up destroying a guys house and he took their truck down to a heap of parts.
