Hi Brett, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Yes - it really is something isn't it - just adds so much tone, depth and character to your mix. Great to hear that you're enjoying LUNA as much much as I am! Have a great week and thanks again, Matt
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment , I really appreciate it! Yes, Luna is really cool, isn’t it! I’ve been a huge fan since day one, so much so that I thought I’d make a UA-cam channel about it. 😉 Just in case it’s helpful, here’s a link to my website with all the videos from the channel arranged with a simple search option as well. Have a great weekend and thanks again 👍 Matt ww.distantsunstudios.uk
Since the recent update of LUNA I completely switched. Used it for my mixes, because it sounds terrific! But now, with the added functions, LUNA is my main DAW. I also compared my projects across Cubase, Logic, Studio One, Ableton and Reaper, and LUNA blew them all out of the water. It is such a pleasure to record and mix in it now, that I actually exported all my unfinished projects to fit in LUNA. Great sound, super simple workflow … It has really improved just about everything. No turning back for me :)
Hi Ruru - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. That really is fantastic how you've AB tested mixes in all those DAW's. I had a similar experience with ProTools and Studio One with the mix in the video. As you can tell - I absolutely love LUNA, the workflow is simple and elegant, and most importantly, it just sounds like a record. Thanks again and have a wonderful week! Matt
To answer your question, I’m using UA Apollo into Logic. I tried Luna when it first launched - but decided to give it a year or so before diving in. I think it’s time now that it’s been going for a few years. I loved the simple and quick way you showed the comparisons. Short and to the point. Luna definitely sounds tons better. Cheers! 🙏
Hi, thanks so much for watching! I hope that you’ve had a chance to try out Luna - it really is very easy to use and sounds fantastic. Thank you for your kind words. I really enjoy making the content for my channel and I’m so pleased that you’ve enjoyed watching and found it helpful. Thanks again and take care, Matt
I first got into the Apollo about four years ago so that I could bring my preamp emulations with its presets on the road with me. I am a voice actor and a consistent processing chain is important for pickups and long-standing clients. Then when LUNA came out and ProTools started with all their subscriptions I made the switch and I have never looked back. Now, the first DAW I ever used was Session 8 (look it up kids) so I've basically been a PT lifer up to the time LUNA came out. The sound and flow of LUNA was so inspiring that I even started to record and produce my own music. I had never tried to use anything midi up to that point, but it was so simple and not at all intimidating through LUNA that my output has been inspiring to myself ;-) I can def hear the difference in your examples, but then again I am running it all through my UAD Console and listening in my headphones. Cool vid, I look forward to more JP
Hi JP Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! That's awesome how inspired you are by LUNA, and I totally get how effective it must be for your work as a Voice Actor. What a great job! I'm hoping to get my next LUNA video up soon - thanks again and have have a great weekend! Matt
I'm ALL in.... Please, I'm not trying to offend anyone but I feel LUNA is how recording in the box is meant to be. Almost like the real thing. Thank you. Thank you UA and Office Hours.
Hi, thanks so much for watching. I’m so pleased that you enjoyed the video! Yes, Luna really is fantastic isn’t it? Having grown up on tape this really is the closest I’ve ever been to a traditional workflow but with all the advantages that working in the box brings. Thanks again so much for watching. I’ll have a great day! Matt
I have Luna and the API package. I just need to learn how to create a session and track from scratch. I did not notice if I could add midi instruments to the sessions. I worked with it for a couple of hours recently and did not see how I can just add a midi track as opposed to an audio track. Once I get that, I could see myself abandoning Cubase Pro and going with Luna exclusively. By the sound bite in your video, I could hear that the sonics are in the pocket.
I have Luna on my computer, and it's not bad. But in order to get all those nice sounds, it still needs UAD plugins like API summing, tape etc, which unlike the DAW are not free. That's ok though, a few hundred dollars is a pretty good deal for those plugins. I do most of my work using Logic Pro x and Pro Tools. Logic is for MIDI based stuff and PT for Audio (Mixing / Mastering) because I'm very used to the work flows. I feel that Luna is a DAW in its infancy, and I'm not planning to do much with it except slowly learn to use it. As it matures and becomes better, maybe it will replace my other two DAWs, but for now I'm watching with interest to see how it evolves.
Hi, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment - I really appreciate it! Yes, I totally agree, for me, the magic of Luna is still when I load up the tape, console and summing extensions across the tracks. Without doubt, I no longer have to use so many plug-ins to get a great sounding mix. Luna is still definitely, and it’s infancy, as you said, and that sounds like a great solution for you to continue working, in logic and pro tools for the time being. If you ever have time to do a rough static, mix demoing the extensions in Luna - I would give it a try as you may like the tonal character that this gives to your Music. Thanks again and have a great weekend! All the best, Matt
This is really great content. Very polished. Your channel is grossly under-subbed. I’ll definitely share your channel with my UA-cam community, as your channel is excellent. (Great video depth, lighting and clarity). Had to like and subscribe. Cheers from Texas, US 🙏
Hello again! I’ve just been replying to a couple of your other comments! Again, I’m very sorry it’s taken me until now to reply. Thanks again so much for your kind words - I really appreciate it - it’s made my day 👍 😊 I really enjoy making the content of the channel. Matt, I love the way you approach answering each message! Congrats. Hard work pays off. Can't wait to check out another of your videos. Like you, I've now left other DAWS and I'm working 'exclusively' with Ableton Live 11 for multi-tracks and recording and then LUNA for editing and mixing. And I think I'm subscriber #100.
Hi Jorge - thanks so much for taking the time to comment - very kind words - you've made my day! Great to hear that you've got a workflow with Ableton Live 11 & Luna that's efficient and enjoyable for you create with. You are my #100 subscriber - which accompanied by your comment is wonderful! Have a great week - and thanks so much again for watching. Matt
@@JorgeSilvestrini Yes - I've got the UF8 and it works really well. The mapping hasn't been done for everything yet - but it will come in time. I've used it for automation on volume, panning and also use the spill function to navigate around the session from the bus tracks. You can also now control the bus sends from tracks either using the rotary knobs or "flip" the sends to use the faders. It's a really well made controller and you can also run it with several profiles at once - eg: swap between Luna & the SSL 360 software if you wanted to use the 360 layout to mix on an SSL style console. Highly recommend it! Hope that helps. Matt
Haha! Thanks Javier - yes - if you've got an Apollo - it's definitely a day well spent giving it a try & it's free! I've previously worked in Logic, Pro Tools & Studio One. It's a very personal thing - but I find Luna is the most enjoyable to work in & also effortlessly adds the character and analogue tone that I grew up with. 😀Thanks again!
Luna and the extensions like tape and console and summing are great. ATR 102 is a powerhouse. If you are thinking of getting into it you can save money by not buying a ton of their other plugins. UA shines with it's reverbs on DSP saving your CPU for everything else. Get a good EQ plugin like fab filter... Done.
Thanks so much for watching and your comments! I love the fab filter eq as well - it’s killer! Totally agree, a couple of well placed reverbs & engage the extensions. With a bit of eq & compression - which can also be done in console - you’re a long way into your mix. Thanks again - great to hear from you 👍
@@DistantSunStudios I like tracking with it too. Like zero latency. I also print hardware inserts and they are a little off but I just line it back up with the OG. I wish the track level tape inserts had a blend knob. But a trick I do sometimes is run the tape emulations through the outboard gear. It's even more analog sounding than analog hah
I use LUNA since day one. For me as a 57 year old musician Luna is the most interesting and inspiring DAW when it comes to tracking and mixing. Worked with Logic before a lot, which is totally fine. I think, when it comes to MIDI, Logic still might be a better choice. Of course, Luna has to learn something. But its relative new and the guys of UA are doing a great job in terms of improving Luna. The office hours are great. With Luna i have the feel, that i´m sitting in a kind of an oldschool studio. Liked and subscribed. Greetz. Carsten ✌🏼
Hi Carsten - thanks so much for taking the time to comment and subscribe! I'm with you on that - I find LUNA inspiring for exactly the same reasons. Growing up on tape and recording sessions in studios through the late 80's & 1990's - LUNA gives me the vibe that I'm recording back a the console to tape. Luna get's updated roughly every 6 weeks - so you can see how hard they're working to add the features requested from the feedback button! Thanks again and have a great week. Matt
I’m about to pull the trigger on Apollo x4 with free plug ins including autotune real time and uad ultimate 11 package which has 114 plug ins I have a windows pc and have bee told by sweetwater Luna can now be operated by windows 10 and higher Is this true? And am I making a good decision upgrading from s Focusrite 4i4, abelton live 11, and waves plug ins? Really excited to stream vocals live and track with zero latency Use abelton live 11 or Luna works well just as good on a high powered windows laptop? Hi, thanks so much for watching the video and taking the time to leave a comment. So sorry it’s my take on me until now to reply. I would love to know if you ended up getting the Apollo X4? The plug-in offer coming with the interface is fantastic! To my knowledge, Luna is currently still only available for a Mac computer working with a thunderbolt UAD Apollo interface. I personally have used the Apollo‘s for over the last 10 years - and I I did notice a big improvement when I switched - compared to the more budget entry level interface I had after learning tape and hard disks! Initially I also had quite a few waves plug-ins, and I’ve just found the UAD plug-ins more responsive and fluid to work with. Additionally, I think they are very highly regarded with regards to the authenticity in tone and the programming / development that has gone into creating the plug-ins. I hope that helps and would love to know where you are at with your music production now. Thanks again, Matt
Hi Matt. I have a digidesign 003 desk and I'm wondering if there's any way I can use the 003 desk as a controller using Luna. Thanks for your time and videos.. Really enjoying them all. Cheers, Ray.
Hi Ray - thanks so much for your kind words - very much appreciated! I'm not very familiar with the digidesign 003 desk. However, I know a man that I'm 99% sure will know the answer! I'll tag in Drew here @UniversalAudio - and also send him a DM for you. I hope that helps and thanks again so much for watching! Have a great week, Matt
Thanks again Matt for your help and your response to my message. Keep up the great work and I look forward to watching more of your videos which I really enjoy and are also very helpful...so thanks again for everything.
Thanks Chris! Yes - I would highly recommend giving it a try. Add the extensions and mix bus processing first, then get a good static balance with panning. It really is an amazing head start just by applying those broad strokes to begin with. All the best and thanks again! Matt
Hi Jimmy - Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Yes - I thought about exactly the same thing when I made the video. I did have a try in Studio1 - using Console 1 and Fader 1. It sounded great, but was a little "muddy" in comparison when I listen back to the two mixes now. The plugin's weren't like for like, but LUNA definitely has an easy of use and a very fast workflow with the integration of the extension built into the fabric of the software. It really reminds me sonically of when I used to record to tape (without the grey hair!). Thanks again, Matt
This is a cool video, but I gotta mention 2 things, first is when you compare sounds with "off/on", it should just change on the screen with no talking in between, so we can hear a real-time "difference" between sounds, if there is one... and 2nd and more important, to me at least, stop the constant "side view" switching of camera. This video is really well presented when you're talking straight to us, then annoying when we have to look in your ear while it looks like you're talking to a different audience (just a personal gripe of mine! Ha!). 💌🤟Nice vid though! Hmm...Luna... 🤔
Hi - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to let me know your thoughts! Really useful & funnily enough, I was in two minds about talking on the comparisons... I decided to incase people were just listening on headphones or maybe not focused on the screen. I may well do my next comparisons with no talking - which I think I did on my last video - 1962 Fender Deluxe v/s AXE FX 3. I like to change up the camera angles - just to keep it a little more interesting - but that's a great point that it felt more impersonal to you when I used the wide angle shot from the side. Really helpful comments - thanks again! Matt
Hi, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Yes, I was staggered when I saw the pro bundle for just $199. I haven’t added it how much these plug-ins would cost individually, but it must be a huge saving. You’re absolutely right it’s also has everything you need a great mix! Thanks again and have a great week😊 Matt
Hi - Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave a comment. I totally agree with you "louder" always tends to sound better, and on listening back I did also think I could hear a difference in volume (which I thought I had pretty much level matches in post). Just to test myself - I loaded up the mastered audio last night and ran the A/B comparison loops through ADPTR AUDIO Metric AB. Interestingly the first 3 loops examples (Summing / Tape & Console) were + 0.1 db louder, then when all applied together + 0.4 db louder. So barley an audible difference, especially once UA-cam has done it's thing! The perception when listening is that the extensions have increased the volume - but they have actually just changed the character and tone of the instruments. The waveforms are significantly different between A & B. When the extensions are added, the increase in harmonic content etc. creates a much richer tone with more depth - and this is shown in a denser waveform - but it's volume peak is no louder. I hope that helps and makes sense - I always find it difficult to describe sounds! Overall - I think it's just personal preference, there's no right or wrong answer. If as the artist / producer your mix sounds good - then it is good! Thanks again Matt
I would - it sounds like a great set-up. Also, by using Spark you can really get a feel over time if you want to commit further into UA with an apollo & LUNA. Thanks again!
Hi Matt, after extensively using Cubase and Logic Pro, LUNA opened my eyes (should I say ears!) to the workflow and the clear, distinct sound quality which set it apart from all the other DAWs. The best part of the API/Neve Summing and API Console Emulation, which hardly uses Apollo's DSP, gave me ample power to run various effects through the bus and complete a song without printing tracks. All the memory issues I used to have with Cubase and Logic disappeared with LUNA. The same software and hardware instruments sound much better in LUNA. The best part is - I got my creative juice flowing again with LUNA. I run it on Apple Mac Studio Max with 64GB+1TB and Apollo x6.
Hi Naweed - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment 😊 That’s fantastic to hear how well LUNA is working for you, and most importantly, inspiring you to create music - which is what it’s all about! I’m a big believer in technology not getting in the way, and like yourself - I find working in LUNA both effortless & inspiring. Thanks again so much for watching - Happy Christmas from Nottingham, England 🎄! Matt
Jesus Christ !!!! Sir What are You Doing With Logic Thats Taking Up 64GBs of RAM on a MAC Studio with An M1 Max How are you Maxing Out That Incredible Machine?!!!!
Hi @@kiidz760 , I discovered some plugins from Waves and Virtual Instruments (Spitfire Labs), which were resource-hungry, resulting in CPU over usage. I also discovered - even some of the Apple Silicon Native-supported plugins were consuming a single core and then crashing the other cores. I am now mainly using UAD 2 plugins, and a few hand-picked plugins from Waves, Fabfilter, Izotope, Baby Audio, Soundtoys, and Valhalla DSP. No issues at all. With LUNA's API Console - you hardly need any additional plugins.
One thing I noticed is when I was using the studer or the oxide. The in depth settings of the tape such as ips, bis and etc all copied over to each track the same. Is there a way to change them all seperately? I have not found a way to do that yet
Hi, thanks so much for watching - great to hear from you! Using lunar extensions, you have the option to add up to 4 different tape machines. They can be any combination of either / or the Studer A800 or the oxide tape extension. When you then add tape to an individual track, you can assign which tape machine A, B, C or D you would like to use. For instance, I have sometimes used a different tape formula for the drums and bass (tape slot. A) compared to a different type tone for the other instruments in the track (in tape slot. B). The ATR master tape extension that you can add to the buses - is different again. Here you can apply any settings that you would like on each bus individually. I hope that helps, and all makes sense! All the best, and thanks again for watching. Matt.
Would you be open to making a video on this process? I promise you this is not easy to set up or find and first time using I was not able to sort out how to set different tape types per bus or per group. @@DistantSunStudios
Sonar X1, MixBus were there first. Studio one and Cubase made their attempt to incorporate channel strips and console summing. Luna is not a pioneer, but due to high quality of integrated plugins, it can reserve itself a place under the sun.
Hi, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. Yes you’re absolutely right the DAW that you’ve mentioned have all created solutions for a similar workflow. I guess using heat on Protools is a similar concept for adding console style, harmonics. I completely agree with you, it’s the quality of the emulations and their integration that makes Luna so much fun to work in. It’s not for everyone, but as I grew up recording to tape from a young age, it feels like Luna has now given me the keys to Abbey Road! Have a great week! Matt
@@DistantSunStudios thank you for making this video. "Keys to Abbey Road" is a great metaphor. If one still cannot succeed, then it's not the equipment, right?
@@misstress1928 yes - you're spot on! Any DAW is just capturing the what goes into it. It should always be all about the song. Then whatever DAW is most comfortable / makes most sense to for each person - is the right one for them. Thanks again for watching, take care 👍Matt
Hi Nico, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment - it's really appreciated! So pleased that you're enjoying Luna. I noticed a definite tonal improvement when I moved across from Pro Tools & Studio One. It's hard to describe in words, but like you said, it just sounds great! All the best, Matt
I'm curious, why you say Luna sounds different as other DAWs? Without the extensions (meaning, having plugins inserted on all tracks, like you can do with any other DAW) it sounds like any other DAWs :) In contrast, Mixbus 32C sounds different no matter what you do because has all the "extensions" embeded inside from the start.
Hi Michael - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! When James from "The Studio Rats" clip makes the comment that LUNA sounds different - he was referring to LUNA having the extensions built into the software - so without adding any 3rd party plugin's - LUNA can add that "character" to the mix if you wish. I maybe wrong - but I haven't come across Summing emulations in third party plugins for specific consoles on bus tracks either? Having said that - I totally agree that you can build a console to tape workflow in any DAW and indeed Softube Console 1 is a great example of this. LUNA is just my prefered choice, as I find it effortless to set up a mix. I have previously worked in Logic, Pro Tools & Studio 1, on reflection I think it's the way that UA have integrated these extensions that lends itself so well to the style of music that I record and produce. I totally agree that MIXbus 32C emulates a Harrison console exclusively - and you quite rightly say that the character can't be turned off - hence the difference n sound! I'm sure LUNA isn't for everyone, and indeed it's extensions aren't necessary to make music at any level, thanks again so much for watching. All the best, Matt
@@DistantSunStudios thanks for answering:). You prefer Luna just for the workflow (which is subject to one’s needs). What’s confusing is why everyone keeps referring to “Luna having the extensions built in” like it’s something no one have seen before, when it’s just like any other DAW - you need to manually add each plugin (called extension by UAD). Every DAW comes with their own developed plugins, Luna coming with UAD plugins, no surprise why. A matter of flavour. To me it’s about flexibility, I can work on a project loading a template with SSL flavour (every channel, bus or master bus loaded with SSL emulation plugins), another project with a template Neve flavour, and so on. Regarding summing emulations for buses or channels, there are tons of them “replicating the behaviour ” of an analog console. SSL, Neve, API, etc…..they are all out there, you just need to look for them.
"Luna sounds different as other DAWs" I have also heard this, both from UA and other users. That it "does" something to the audio, that they "can't explain". And they mean without plugins and extensions. If so, the DAW itself is doing something "under the hood", unlike other DAWs - which could be the case, but would be a bit strange. Maybe we will know more in the future. 🤷♂
Hi Dad4 - Thanks so much for watching and your comment! Yes - I totally agree, I thinks as a DAW it sounds the best for me. To add the character of a console and tape is so fast and effortless the way UA have integrated it into the software. Thanks again for watching! Matt
@marquinhosgospel Muito obrigado por assistir e tirar um tempinho para comentar! Sim - eu sei que o Windows tem sido muito solicitado há algum tempo - esperemos que esteja a caminho para você em breve!
Hi, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. From memory in the free version of Luna, you do get the oxide tape extension. However, I think the summing and API console extensions are a paid upgrade. UA have got a sale on at the moment - with some of the lowest prices I’ve ever seen from them.. I think it ends at the end of the month, so if you are thinking of buying any plug-ins / extensions, it would be worth a look. I recently made this video which detail what is included in the free version of Luna, along with the bundle for the paid option. ua-cam.com/video/cTTTSQw0424/v-deo.htmlsi=azTP1rhlK2IMIJPX I hope that helps and thanks again so much for watching! Take care and all the best for 2024. Matt
Hi Dude - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! It's a SSL UF8 control surface in the desk. Really well made and fantastic for automation, setting pans and navigating sessions. Thanks again, Matt
Luna isn’t free if you have to buy expensive hardware. Luna sounds good for mixing, but it’s still not as fast and complete as daws like Ableton/Bitwig/Logic/Cubase.. etc. Though, I’m sure one day it will be
Hi @MaximusWhyman thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Yes - only free if you have an UA Apollo interface & also currently only available on Mac. I've been a Mac user for 25+ yrs and by chance my second ever interface was a UA Apollo Twin (maybe 10 yrs back). So in my case - to try LUNA was free - and as I grew up recording on Tape - it's a perfect fit. I agree, DAW's are a very personal thing and as long as they help the creative process and importantly, don't get in the way - any of the DAW's you've mentioned will do a fantastic job. Thanks again, Matt.
@@floretsports5910 Still have to buy UAD hardware. “As of update 1.4, although you can use LUNA without an Apollo connection, a Thunderbolt-equipped Apollo registration is still needed to obtain and use LUNA.”
Hi Zay - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I think Pro Tools will always be the industry standard and if you love it - I agree - why change! So many great records have been made in Pro Tools. Thanks again and have a great weekend, Matt
Luna’s editing workflow is a bit lacking. Especially with respect to take comping. The minute they adopt quick-swipe comping as in Logic or Studio One, I will record, edit and mix exclusively in Luna.
Hi Luckal - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Yes - I'm sure revisions like that will come - UA have consistently followed up on the feedback suggestions and I've a feeling another large update isn't too far away.... Thanks again and have a great weekend! Matt
I don't wanna pay for 900€ of luna extensions I'd rather get Ableton in that case. Without the extensions there's nothing unique which would make it worth really giving LUNA a shot.
Hi Joost - Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment - it's really appreciated! I totally agree - it is the Extensions in Luna that make it for me, and UA plugin's are premium in price. I've always bought their plugin's in their sales over the years - and just looking now - you can buy 6 plugin's (including extensions) for £299, which would give you everything I showed in the video and more. It's still £299 though and Alberton is a great DAW and I'm sure you'll get fantastic results with it :) Thanks again for watching and have a great Christmas & New Years! Matt
@@DistantSunStudios Yeah thanks for the video dude. And yup I have bought a lot of und stuff too and use stuff like Autotune Realtime and Capitol Chambers, the La2as and 1176, Fairchild's etc on a regular basis, but for me UAD always comes a little short when it comes to sheer value (on the software side, I love the quality of the output converter and mic pre's etc.) - I just feel like they should include a simple gate for console (why the f didn't they do this already - now I need to load a 300€ api vision channel strip which eats up more than 1/4 of one of my dsp chips just to use a simple gate). Same with LUNA extensions, without them luna is really not that special, and yeah I do have the oxide extension for free, but that's not enough incentive for me to actually give it a "full on" shot at replacing my current DAW and workflow. I really hope UAD listens to their community when it comes to this.
Hi @ipoponq - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I don't know if Windows is coming soon, but with the UAD plugin's now going native and latest Luna update allowing any core audio devices to be used alongside an apollo - I wouldn't be surprised if it's on it's way. Thanks again for watching, Matt
@@DistantSunStudios yeah, thank you for review. I wrote that only hoping someone from UAD will eventually see the comment, because I'd like to try it out on windows and there's no point for me in switching to LUNA even if I have a mac, cuz I need to stay flexible to work in multiple environments.
@@ipoponq yes - if you can work in multiple environments - that can only be a good thing for collaboration / clients. NAAM just around the corner - let’s see what UA bring. 🤞👍
Hi Dewayne - thanks so much for watching and then taking the time to comment! Neuendo is a great DAW - good to hear that it works well for you in your workflow. 👌 Thanks again! Matt
No one makes a comparison through a pause-it's terribly unprofessional. And the fact that you put a voice in every pause made the comparison even worse.
Hi, thanks so much for watching - I’m sorry it’s taken me until now to reply. I really appreciate you taking the time to comment. I think the comparison at the start with talking and a pause in between - was a clip that I took from the UA office hours live stream so in fairness that is why it was there (as a live playback). However, I do agree that talking between comparisons can be offputting which I did do in this particular video as well. I have also posted #short videos of all of the audio comparisons. a There is no talking at all on these - just the audio back to back. I hope that helps and thanks again for watching. Matt
Hi Michel - Thanks so much for watching, great to hear from you! Yes - unfortunately Luna is still Mac only - but I'm guessing that PC compatibility must be up their as one of the highest requested update. Who knows - maybe this year 2023.....? Thanks again, Matt
No luna is not the daw for me its too basic. Why would i leave a truely professional and feature packed daw like Cubase that has feature that no other company thinks of putting in their daw and thats actually useful, Dont get blinded by the pretty design its all superficial
Hi - thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment. One of my best friends uses Cubase (as does Hans Zimmer I believe). He loves cubase and it sounds like it’s working really well for you as well - so I totally agree with you - there’s no reason at all for you to change. But also just to add that for me the design of Luna is not only wonderful to look at, but also very intuitive and easy to use. It would be a very boring world if we were all same - so thanks again for watching and all the best! Matt

Have started using Luna again over Logic, the depth the tape and summing gives to the mix is amazing, loving it.
Hi Brett, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment! Yes - it really is something isn't it - just adds so much tone, depth and character to your mix. Great to hear that you're enjoying LUNA as much much as I am! Have a great week and thanks again, Matt
Nice to know @brettcooney7958
I have just started using Luna. I’m amazed with it!
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment , I really appreciate it!
Yes, Luna is really cool, isn’t it! I’ve been a huge fan since day one, so much so that I thought I’d make a UA-cam channel about it. 😉
Just in case it’s helpful, here’s a link to my website with all the videos from the channel arranged with a simple search option as well.
Have a great weekend and thanks again 👍

I had never tried to use anything midi up to that point, but it was so simple and not at all intimidating through LUNA that my output has been inspiring to myself ;-)
I can def hear the difference in your examples, but then again I am running it all through my UAD Console and listening in my headphones.
Cool vid, I look forward to more
JP
Hi JP
Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!

@@DistantSunStudios Love it! Have you ever looked at a controller for LUNA? After buying some of the SSL plugins, I started looking at their UF8.
Matt
Oh no now I tempted to have a go at Luna!! Excellent video 😊 thank you
Brilliant - I love the Unison preamps when tracking. If it sounds good - it is good!
Matt

Thanks again,
Matt
Hi Matt. I have a digidesign 003 desk and I'm wondering if there's any way I can use the 003 desk as a controller using Luna. Thanks for your time and videos.. Really enjoying them all.

Great video. Really interesting!! Might have a go with luna on my macbook.
Thanks Chris! Yes - I would highly recommend giving it a try. Add the extensions and mix bus processing first, then get a good static balance with panning. It really is an amazing head start just by applying those broad strokes to begin with. All the best and thanks again! Matt
This makes me want to compare the same session in another DAW but utilize the same plugins on every channel and every bus to see the difference
Matt
@@DistantSunStudios A great vid anyway, I subbed! Keep doing them!
Cheers Man - I'm working on the next one now!
Also buying the LUNA pro bundle for $198 saves you a lot of money as you don’t need any other UAD plugins really 😊
Each comparison had a different volume, always a little louder on the ON position, so it makes it sound 'better'. Should normalize volume to compare
Thanks again
Matt
Cool!
Wait, do I need a UAD interface to use this? I have an SSL, and use UAD Spark plugins..
Yes - I'm afraid so. You'll need an Apollo interface & a Mac (not Windows) to run Luna at the moment. This may change in the future though....
@@DistantSunStudios Thanks man, ah well, I'll keep doing what I'm doing for now :)
Hi Justin - that’s a great idea. I will make a note to create that video. I have a few on my list first. - but will get it done. It’s a great idea. 👍
Idk. Something about Luna. It does sound different. Can’t explain it. But my stuff sounds great
Hi Nico, thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment - it's really appreciated!
Without the extensions (meaning, having plugins inserted on all tracks, like you can do with any other DAW) it sounds like any other DAWs :)
In contrast, Mixbus 32C sounds different no matter what you do because has all the "extensions" embeded inside from the start.
Every time I start Luna, my ears are like „oh wow, it sounds so deep“
Can’t tell you why but it’s always the same
@@DistantSunStudios thanks for answering:).
"Luna sounds different as other DAWs"
I have also heard this, both from UA and other users. That it "does" something to the audio, that they "can't explain". And they mean without plugins and extensions. If so, the DAW itself is doing something "under the hood", unlike other DAWs - which could be the case, but would be a bit strange. Maybe we will know more in the future. 🤷♂
It’s the best sonically
Hi Dad4 - Thanks so much for watching and your comment! Yes - I totally agree, I thinks as a DAW it sounds the best for me. To add the character of a console and tape is so fast and effortless the way UA have integrated it into the software. Thanks again for watching! Matt

Is this the free version or the paid version of Luna with the extensions?
Which DAW controller is that on desk?
Luna’s editing workflow is a bit lacking. Especially with respect to take comping. The minute they adopt quick-swipe comping as in Logic or Studio One, I will record, edit and mix exclusively in Luna.

Make Luna for Windows
Hi @ipoponq - thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment. I don't know if Windows is coming soon, but with the UAD plugin's now going native and latest Luna update allowing any core audio devices to be used alongside an apollo - I wouldn't be surprised if it's on it's way.
On the spectrum
@TaiChiRehab Thanks so much for watching! Yes - LUNA is really worth trying if you get the chance :)
Nope. Luna isn’t the best DAW for me. Nuendo is. Cheers!!
Hi Dewayne - thanks so much for watching and then taking the time to comment! Neuendo is a great DAW - good to hear that it works well for you in your workflow. 👌 Thanks again! Matt
It's really not a useful DAW
Matt
Nop I'm on PC so never gonna be ... Sad
Matt
