I highly recommend checking out the wiki for this game. It's very interesting. The game is technically an autobiography of the lead designer, who wanted a game to show the fist-fights he'd get into while in school. The Japan release featured high-school bullies, while the western release was based on _The Warriors_ movie. It was the first game to establish the "beat-em'-up" genre. This game took off and led to the Kunio (River City Ransom) games and Double Dragon. In Japan, it was the most popular arcade game, in the year it was released.

If memory serves me correctly, you can sit on the bosses to defeat them, but you have to had gotten their energy very low first. Target: Renegade…that will be an interesting review when you get to it. It was certainly a shock to my system when I bought it.
There's a scene missing on the NES that's on the Famicom version after beating the final boss. You rescued some dude, then shake hands with you then-- DIRECTOR YOSHI KISHIMOTO
This is a fun game to play but, I didn't understand what the point of this Renegade game was that it never showed you rescuing anyone, winning anything, or being claimed as a hero without explaining as to why you are fighting bad guys. All the game shows is fighting bad guys and then the end credits start at 10:18. However, I learned on the arcade version (I never played it) that you are rescuing your girlfriend from bad guys but for some unknown reason it's not shown in the NES version. If I ever finished this game, I would have been disappointed not rescuing anyone, not winning anything, or being claimed as a hero where all I would have felt is that I played the whole game for nothing.
This game doesn't seem that fun, but I do like the goofy @$$ graphics, definitely gives the game an identity. =D In fact, the levels seem a bit drab by comparison. Also, nice ending gag there.

The ZX Spectrum version of Target: Renegade is the true port of the game. Renegade 3 just falls of the rails as it's all about time travel bizarrely.
And this game was the game that also was the spiritual predecessor of River City Ransom.
You never talk about Technos (the actual maker of this game) or Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-kun and how the Americanization is what inspired Double Dragon.
I couldn't figure this game out to save my life. Id love for you to do Streets of Rage and Double Dragon.

What I funny here is the Kunio series outlived the Sousetsuken (Double Dragon)series and they're in the same block.

the game had amazing music and the motorbike stage was awesome... I hated the combat system though since It was basically bayou billy double dragon.
kicking enemies into the water was the best as well
you should play the orignal verison of this Kunio Kun. It has a storyline as well .

Something tells me that an entire stage where your character beats up women would not fly in a video game made today.
It wouldn't even fly many years ago. Final Fight was sold in the USA in 1989. They said Poison was a hermaphrodite in order to avoid the problem.
