Why doesn't he work with the federal gov't on a plan to make housing more affordable instead of leaving it in the hands of some greedy developers and rich property management groups. Atleast there would be some incentive for new Canadians to work hard - to own property. Why work hard if your hard earned money is going to some hoarding stinking developer/landowner who raise the prices every 6 months on a whim. They're all over downtown Toronto. It's sickening. I am an immigrant who immigrated to this fine Canada, and the best province in Canada, Ontario back in 1987. I am not offended by Doug Ford what he said, it's the NDP who are trying to create problems from Ford, I will tell you guys something here my fellow Canadians and New Canadians that the NDP are anti immigrants and are xenophobic because in the 90's when they were in government in queens park, in Toronto, they were anti Immigrants they deported women and children, they welcomed war criminals and wanted fugitives to Ontario, they introduced the xenophobic driving licensing system called the graduated licensing system, so that would prevent immigrants from becoming cab drivers.
I immigrated here in Canada in 2015 and worked my a$$ of 19 hours a day for 6 straights weeks for a duration of at least 8 months. Then Ianded into a better paying job that is more aligned to what was my professional career in The Philippines. I continued to work hard until today I am back to the job/role that I am always passionate to do. I am not in anyway offended by Premier Doug Ford’s comment during his interview.

I really despise this man and hate the fact I actually voted for him. We aren't short people. If we were short that many people in Ontario, we wouldn't have a housing crisis. Immigration numbers are staggeringly high. My city which is around 800K population now. Is projected to be 2 million in just a short 19 years. That's all from mass immigration coming into the country. Yes I think we need more housing, and better highways and all our roads need fixing and our infrasctruture (sewage, water and electrical) need to be updated to handle the capacities. But geezus. We do not need more people coming in. It's quite obvious this man is corrupt to the core. His solution is to bring in more people to an already stressed province? FFS.

My parents were immigrants that migrated back in late 1969. They were both hardworking and instilled that into me and my siblings. I am not offended at all by this, actually I applaud him for saying what he did! There are far too many people that were either born here or migrated here that are taking advantage of the system that either need to leave or be denied assistance.

I'm an immigrant that came here 43 years ago as a 3 month old. I am not offended and agree with him. I don't even like Ford. But what's true is true. Immigrants should not be coming here just to take advantage of a system that many of them never get off of or contributed to. These are resources that taxpayers pay into for when they are in need of them. But many come to Canada with no intention of assimilating into Canadian culture or getting off assistance. My mother was a social worker for 23 years and I would sometimes see her clients and play their kids after school when I would get off school. My mom would get them housing and we'd end up going to school together. Out of the ones I remember and stayed in touch with, one guy died and his brother went to jail, parents still don't speak English living in the same Ontario housing complex for over 15 years. The 3 others turned out okay, but again their parents are still living off the system and like the other parent, still don't speak English. That's not fair to those contributing to these resources. Assistance should be used to help people get off their feet, not keep their feet up.

Words might have been taken out of context, but the opposition is implying Doug Ford thinks immigrants fall into a stereotype of expecting ease and not working hard. Nothing is farther from the truth. Look at most new comers families and they are working multiple jobs, educating their kids and instilling values of hard work. See any graduating class at top universities and most kids majoring in high demand fields and subjects are from immigrant families. Again, don't think he meant those words in a bad way, I personally have a lot of respect for Doug Ford.
