Sensational coverage here Bevan. Good to see new video footages from you. The TODAY show on Channel 9 showed live coverage of this unfold this morning on TV from the channel 9 chopper. Of all the tours and runs 3801 did from regular service days to the 1986-2007 Preservation life it never ran across the Sydney harbour bridge back then. Seeing this unfold will no doubt be in the history books for 3801's preservation career. terrific video as always. Cheers.
I knew something was up last Sunday morning when I saw so many people with cameras standing on Milson's Point station. The helicopters were a give-away too. I live in North Sydney, so I could hear 3801 for quite a while as it crossed the Bridge and made its way to and from the Lavender Bay sidings.
Thankyou! I was hoping you would film our 3801 going over the Sydney Harbour Bridge. My dad and an Aviator, named Goya Henry, where the first to fly a Tiger Moth under the Harbour Bridge. Awesome video.
Interesting to see 3801 on the Bridge assisted by an 86 class electric loco which did not exist in my time in Sydney 60 years ago- there were two electric locos in operation then but not the 86 class. I take it the train came through the tunnels to get to the Bridge even though if I recall catenary clearances are lower there.
I used to watch the steam locomotives engine trains go past our Railway Bungalow in Jangshahi Sind Railway Station in early 50s where my Daddy was posted as PWI with North Western Railway of Pakistan as I was studying in a primary school.in the outskirts of this Sleepy town of Sind, Pakistan nearer to Thatta Town one hour drive away from Jangshahi !
Excellent and well done to all involved. 3801 is a lovely loco and obviously well looked after and maintained. Her train was immaculate too. There is a distinct 'Australianness' about vintage Aussie railway stock. I don't know what it is, but it seems it all shows its British lineage, as opposed to American or European, while being very, very 'Australian' in its execution. Again, brilliant video. PS: Is that the "Red Lady" F1 EMU on the other platform? If so, another brilliant preservation example.
The classic steam engines used to be an important transport back in the day transporting passengers & freight in Sydney.& times has changed as they are now used for charter & tours. & They have a good historical history to them as well.because steam engines was an old school locomotives that was powered by coal.& they needed to burn them in hot furnace to get them running by the second crew member who's job was to load a lot of coal into the furnace.& the 90's sure was different back then.
Nice stuff - 3830 would have been good but hey it's a 38, so who's complaining. We are lucky we have 3801. I'm in need of a camcorder, just wondering what you use?
Runs from shunting neck beside Waverton station to just behind Luna Park. It was the main electrified north shore double track line prior to opening the bridge in 1932. It was later singled and used since 1932 for car storage at Lavender Bay during the day.

Awesome video! I was on the harbour bridge and at Lavender Bay and Turramurra. I also ended up seeing it on the return at Macarthur

3801 is a magnificent steam loco!

Couldn't hear the steam engine due to overwhelming Sound of chopper.

Was this engine (or one like it) stored at the rail museum? Almost sure I saw this engine as a kid somewhere.
