I have traveled all over the world and I have found that my favorite locations are all expensive, London, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Zurich, Sydney. Seems to me people are willing to spend more to live in really nice places. I have found that when people talk about the most affordable places in the US they are talking about the most undesirable places to live.
Be very cautious about some of the prices listed here, specifically around "Single Family Home" and "Electricity". As someone who lives here, a single family home price that he mentioned is for a very low square footage 1bd 1bath or studio. 2-3 bedrooms start easily crossing the 1M mark even for condo's and townhouses in most areas. Also for electricity as someone who works from home and keeps the AC at ~70 degrees with 1 electric car, our electricity bill ranges from $350-770 a month (Highly dependent on the time of year). San Diego has the highest electricity cost per kw in the entire nation, even exceeding Hawaii. And also don't forget the high california income tax and sales tax which do start to chunk away at you when you add all of this together. My wife and I make >300k a year and have decided to leave SD due to the increasing cost of not only SD but of California as a whole.
Only shop at VONS , FRIDAY FRENZY.. Gasoline at COSCO, usually .50 cents per gallon cheaper. Stanton Optical ,EyeGlass World. Free eye exam . Take a weekend drive to VISTA. Plenty of roadside farm stand sales .. Really great prices. 👍
@Living in San Diego with Bern & Courtney Yes, Tuesday- Wednesday 9-11 am. I answered your question before but it was removed . I mentioned some apps for finding cheap ⛽️ . Also mentioned CALL AHEAD SEATING or Resevations if you go out to eat . 🍷
I live in the mid Willamette valley in Oregon (born and raised). My wife is from Los Angeles, and we've been strongly considering moving down there. The cost of living there vs here is surprisingly not that far off and San Diego has alot more job opportunities.
thanks Bern for the video1 I like how you went into different places and then talked about the prices. When I lived there from 1988-1992,it was so affordable. On studio apartment in Banker's Hill was $350 a month. Had a 1Bedroom in Hillrest,6th ave,$550..i so wish it wasn't so expensive, although so beautiful. Take care hi to Courtney!
@@BernMcGovern they are offering me a job in San Diego, how much would you say is a loving comfortably salary to go to the gym, eat healthy, find me a sexy Mexican and travel occasional accord the state?
Thats what we saw both visiting and researching. Everything OTHER than housing costs are marginally higher (statistically 7%) but like groceries and convenience stores are about the same nationwide Boston/Chicago/SunnyD. Food is WAY fresher though in California, so id pay 20% premium on that alone. Really the TRUE "cost of living" is ALL baked into monthlies like Rent/Mortgage and Gas/Electric. At least thats what we discovered. Is it worth it? 1000% HECK YES! Those benjamins get spent warming you up in winter or flying you to beach vacations anyway! Might aswell just live on vacation and rough it around the edges :P
@@BernMcGovern but in all Facts…! It’s expensive in every state of America. Not just sandiego Ca.. lots of folk get info & just run with it’ never been within 2 feet of the area or know a reputable person that is or have been..😄🙋🏽♂️
So if I’m being honest this is how much it costs literally everywhere else in the country…for anything…the entire country is feeling the effects of this hyper inflation. I live in shitty Louisiana and milk costs 6$ a gallon here…more than San Diego so sign me up lol
Hi there, you showing as your real life I love this but I’m Brazilian and this end year I wanna live there, can you sai someplace more cheap for one single Brazilian for live?
are there many places in san diego that do short term rentals about 3 months you recommend? I want to check out the city to see if i like it but i am debating on an airbnb option or if i can find a month to month property.
It's definitely possible. I used to think you could do it off of $50,000/ year but now I would say you'd need to make $80,000 to be able to do it on your own and that is living modestly
$80K a year is low if you want to live in a nice area and at least 5 miles from the beaches where the weather is cooler. SD is a desert climate and it gets very hot in July - September. (100+ daytime but does cool off at night.) CA is a Blue state and is deep in debt. (The Fed's paid them during COVID or it would be worse.) They tax EVERYTHING. And don't forget, that "$850K average home price" will likely have an HOA. By my calculation, it takes a minimum household annual income of $100K.

Yeah there’s a reason why it’s expensive here
@@jaunt3603 there’s a place for everyone. I hope you are happy there

Great video and accurate prices for every life expense in our area!
Thanks @Nine Angels!
This video was extremely useful im genuinely shocked most other videos i have watched have not been the best> Great Work!

Groceries $220 a month for a single person? That seems awfully low. Are you sure you didn’t mean a week?
We are a family of 4 and we spend about $250/week. I could see a single person probably spending $300/month but obviously everyone lives differently

For two cars Pay $250 in Florida, but job market in FL is terrible and pay is incredibly low 😭
Unbelievable!!!! I live in uSA owned colony and everything you mentioned is more expensive in here😳
And the quality is way lower
There are definitely places that are much expensive then San Diego but it’s certainly not cheap.

When is game day in Houston, or concert, downtown parking goes up to $60, minimum wage in Texas is $7.25 and many people work for $9-14 per hour 😞
well organized video thanks

It’s not easy that’s for sure
Those are all pretty much same prices as Guam. Considering we get everything imported in, I guess that’s pretty expensive to live there
Whats the median home price in Guam?

☝️😑.. my experience is, if you can solve the cost of your housing (pay cash, live with parents etc) then everything else is doable
Housing is definitely the trickiest part
could you cross the border to go to Tijuana and get dental cleanings for less?
@@richardloh-qs2nx people definitely do that
