I miss Syria so much. I was a student studying in Damascus in 2003 -04. It was a lovely memorable experience and Syrian people are beautiful heart-warming humble people. I hope complete peace, tolerance and harmony return to Syria so that the rest of the world can visit Syria as a popular tourist destination with all her charms and allures. They don't called Syria as the "Cradle of Civilization" for nothing. Peace!

While I haven't traveled to the area; it's common knowledge that numerous UNESCO sites (Alepo for one )and countless civilians have been wiped away during the eight-year war.

Ok I know I’m not him, but in order to get to Syria, you have a 2 hour or so drive from Lebanon. You encounter many checkpoints, and in these checkpoints officers look for passports and things like that, if you look suspicious they pull you over and search your car for weapons. If you had something to hide, the sad truth is you can often just bribe the officers. When you get to damascus immediately you see a beautiful city, with many destroyed buildings. It is beautiful, but it is often a little problematic. So always carry spare change if you want to go.

@@Silk-hj5jm I lived in Homs for 2 years which suffered a lot more but visited Damascus occasionally, it looks exactly how I remember it especially the overview of the city's buildings, market places and stores. Its a shame how the media portrays Syria, the culture and its people are amazing! When I returned to my own country I realized how kind and friendly Syrians were and that I never experience that kind of openness in my home country

Damascus is amazing, I myself was very lucky to visit back in 2009. I loved the food, the people and the sights, Pity you did not get to see the last surviving synagogue in Damascus, It was amazing praying in a synagogue that has been there for thousands of years, if you ever go back to Damascus try visit I think you will love it. There used to be another old synagogue that was in Jobar that was used as a museum, which was amazing but sadly was destroyed a few years ago during the war.

Damascus is amazing, I myself was very lucky to visit back in 2009. I loved the food, the people and the sights, Pity you did not get to see the last surviving synagogue in Damascus, It was amazing praying in a synagogue that has been there for thousands of years, if you ever go back to Damascus try visit I think you will love it. There used to be another old synagogue that was in Jobar that was used as a museum, which was amazing but sadly was destroyed a few years ago during the war.
