The car was actually made in Australia. It is a Holden Monaro and was exported to the US to be sold as the last Pontiac GTO. Very cool car and don't ever sell it!!! My first car (from 1969) was a 56 MGA that had seen better days. I loved it but it pooped out and became a parts car for someone else. I currently have a 77 MGB roadster that is getting sorted out for some summer road trips. Hopefully everything will work out OK!
That’s why I said that about the original rotors being from Australia!! I got emotional when the Holden plant shut down… 🥹 I absolutely LOVE that she’s a Monaro ❤️
I worked for GMH for quite a few years including when we made the LH drive GTO. I remember hearing at the time the GTO didnt do so well over in the states and never knew why because it was a really nice car I thought.
As a lazy home wrench spinner I put a wrench on the head of the bolt and use a dead blow hammer to break bolts loose. Kinda like an impact but you can get to more hardware than an impact. I put stuff on the same way, too.
It's great that you've had Roxy that long. Some cars you just can't get rit of of no matter what happens in life. They can alway put a smile on your face every time you get behind the wheel. I've been the care taker of a 70 Cuda for over 50 years... Keep treating her right ♦
When you opened the doors I looked and said... That's a Monaro, then you said she was your first "lov" so glad that you are keeping your Aussie. They are a collectors item here in OZ
I agree, Roxy is a lifer that you never get tired of driving or just looking at. In many ways she seems to be ageless. Have fun guys and thanks for taking us along.
I just love watching people fawn over their cars. When they are special, it shows. It's fantastic. I have one that means so much more to me than it is worth on the free market. I wouldn't trade that '79 Malibu for all of the gold in Fort Knox. Great episode!
Love yer vids. Excellent advice and a true Texas humility. Thank you. Don't ever change, please. I always look forward to watching Aaron and Emily's next project.
Yes mate. You are right about the GTO being built in Australia. They were a Holden Monaro in Australia. So nice to see an Ozzy build car on your channel. Cheers Guys.
Yes Australia. Did Collision repair on these cars in the USA. Holden is absolutely the best general motors car ever made. Extremely easy underline sheet metal construction. Far easier than any u.s. made general motors unibody.
Yep, they were branded down here as a Holden Pontiac. The engines were built in Melbourne, and the car itself built in Adelaide. The left hand drive midels were called SS Chevy, and many were sold to the middle east. They were LS engines, but built here.
I'm very pleased you got back to some Roxie content. I had a feeling something wasn't right due to her not being around. Being a 2005 GTO owner since I bought mine new in 05 I enjoy your vids of work and riding so much. My car is at 622 rwhp and is a blast to drive. I'll never get rid of it. Thanks
You guys need to get a pressure bleeder, takes all the guesswork out when bleeding brakes! Love your replacement brakes made by Baer. Seat those brakes in well, always good to make your car stop just as well as it goes! Thanks for a good, relaxing and positive video! God bless you all.
Seeing Roxy get so much love really makes me jones to work on my GTO, they are even the same color!! Mine has been waiting for a new motor for a couple years now:( I can relate to this video a lot. Its great to see Roxy back on the road!
The GTO struts are fairly easy to work on. As recommended by Pedders - Justice Pete videos back in the day, you can leave the wheels on the car and use the car's weight to your advantage, unbolt the top of the struts, then jack up the car and remove the struts. Then after reinstalling the struts, drop back on tires and let the vehicle weight compress the struts. This also helps prevent the strut from spinning when you tighten the top. Good to see the old girl continuing to rack up the miles!
Hi Emil, My dream car .. take care of her, I been watching your videos and always see it in that corner..it’s about time you gave her the she needs..LOVE IT!!!
I think many will agree M and Roxy are the perfect match. Maybe not brand new but beautiful and improved with time. Thanks Flying sparks. Central California watching
Great video. I used to work GMH Elizabeth midnight shift making the dash panels for the LH drive exports. Very nice to see a GTO still around over there.
Good to see Roxy getting a little needed love. I'm sure you will enjoy hoping back in the drivers seat and going for a spin. Looking forward to catching up with you in IOLA in a couple of weeks~! Take care and safe travels. See you then 👍
Hi from Australia guys . And yes the washers go that way so you can see when that black rubber flogs out it will move up . Hope that explains it love the videos.
Roxy is one of my favorite cars on all the youtubes! I saw her in person at Cecil County Dragway during drag week in 2019. She brings all the awesome! Nice to see her get some love.
We love it when you work on Roxy... We have to do some work on Our GTO (We are the one from Sick week 2023 when we met you and Arron). Hope to see her running again on the track. Maybe you can enter her into Sick Week 2024.. We are hoping to have our 1988 Supercharged Fiero entered in 2024.
Love to see another Roxy episode. I'm surprised the rotors came off fairly easily. I changed the original rotors on my girlfriend's 100k mile GTO and it took a sledgehammer. Also I don't know if you've ever done it but polyurethane radius rod bushings are an easy job to do and make driving and stopping the car feel better. Easier to do than an oil change. I actually replaced all my girlfriend's suspension/control arm bushings, ball joints and tie rods, and her 120k mile GTO drives way better than my 60k mile GTO. Both on the same coilovers.
Look who is stepping up and filling in for her big sister! She has grown up to a walking/ talking little lady so fast! Miss the "Kid" but her stand-in is doing a great job! Great commentary! "It smells bad!" 😂
The GTO was originally a Holden from Australia. They moved the wheel to the left side and had a hotrod. We love it. I wish they would have done the same for the elcamino style car they have.
The “Elcamino” style was called a Ute, short for utility in Australia. The hotted up models were called Malloo. The Ute was actually invented in Australia in the early 20th century when a farmer told Ford Australia that there was a need for a vehicle that he could use on the farm during the week but good enough to take his wife to church on Sundays. It predates what you Americans call a pickup.
Excellent brake mod! Those 6-pistons & larger rotors will do wonders for decreased stopping distance! I hope you guys emptied the master reservoir, & filled with fresh fluid. I change the brake fluid in all my cars/trucks every 2 years. Easy peasy with a air pump tool on the reservoir cap!!
I had a Black 2004 that I bought new. I got a discount because a tornado had brought down part of their dealership sign and scuff the front bumper and cracked the passenger headlamp assembly. Unfortunately mine was a lemon and it spent weeks in and out of the repair center in the first year for freeze plugs leaking and gauge cluster issues where the speedo would go back down when speed was decreased and keep increasing until it hit the max mph and then flip flop all over the place for a few seconds and reset back to zero and start the process all over again. The fuel gauge would not show properly. And finally the whole gauge cluster would flip out and flash lights and the dials would go back and forth. It was a mess. I got rid of it after I got a settlement from GM for it being a lemon. Those model year GTOs are quite rare. I rarely see them.
Hey Guys: Bottom line is that you've gotta keep up with the maintenance on the GTO to keep ot running right!!! Good tthat you're getting it fixed!!! From the home of PB Blaster and Permatex... Cleveland, Ohio.....
Good stuff you two. I've got a serious case of car lift envy! As a former Pontiac owner (Tempest was my first car (4-door version of the GTO)) this installment was very satisfying to watch. Keep up the good work!
I miss seeing Roxy. I now have more miles on my GTO than you have on Roxy. Here is a like and comment to help your channel grow and get you the recognition you deserve.
The GTO is a Holden of Australia product underneath. GM/Pontiac had to make a lot of changes for the US market like door seals, heater mods etc. Those Rotors would be Australian because the car is Australian.
I know I'm a little too goofy for some, but the low key jokes y'all make are my favorite. Glad to see this car back on the road and both of you having fun!
It's so cool that you both still have your first cars! I was the kid who didn't know what he had and let a 70 El Camino go. 😭 Would love to see the GTO and the Z on the road together. Keep having fun and thanks for sharing!
On a thirdgen fbody you take that top nut off (the one and only nut) with no weight on the suspension it all comes apart with the full force of the spring as it is the only thing that holds the spring force. There was a video a few years ago where a guy narrowly missed his leg and foot when the a-arm slammed into the ground and the strut flipped outward.
I always drop the oil filter first, if the oil is hot, that just means a lot less splashing of hot oil, no mess to clean up, and almost no risk of getting burned by hot oil.
Glad I watched this made me realize that I put my rotors on the wrong side. In my defense these are the first slotted rotors I’ve ever used and they were NOT labeled. But they been stopping just fine.
You did it right. They put them on wrong in the video. Remember when they had to flip the bleeders? They are on the wrong side. Slots point towards the rear on slotted rotors.
I drive a GR86 now, so I don't have the oil filter removal issue since mine is on top of the engine. But I'll try and remember that cup trick when I do other cars.
Many cast steel and cast iron parts for GM and Ford were made in Australia and Canada due to the clean air innovative in the US in the 1960 thru the 1980’s but that car is a Holden so that’s why the stamping.
Love it, I miss my GTO. There's quite a few of them out this way, had a wicked sounding orange 06 revving at me over by buc-ees. Heck, if you've had Roxy on the road here recently, I might have seen her, I do recall seeing a bright red one not that long ago.

hello, Emily love you channel and Aaron is and acts like a complete gentleman which is nice to see. i just watched you guys changing the bushings on top of the struts. Did you go back and check the passenger side? i couldn't help but notice the bottom nut didn't tighten up very far so when you put the top nut on you only caught about 3 threads. Its worth checking into especially since you guys work hard and play hard. take care
For best stopping, the brakes need to be proportioned with the weight on each axle, and you have to adjust for weight shift during deceleration. Assuming it was designed correctly, if the Baer brakes are better than stock, then your balance will be off, and the car will not stop as quickly.
The GTO was built in Australia it's a Holden Commodore. Many GTO owners will put the Holden Emblems on the car. Also body parts are hard to come by. I owned a 2006 GTO and had to find out the hard way on the parts situation. Definitely one of the best cars I've owned. I started out in 1967 Camaro.
Well hello Emily and Aaron Reid .was to hope see you guys doing power tour of June 2023 . Vice grip garage is out, DD Speed Shop in from Canada, junkyard out on the power tour. Love the vedio of the NEW tree house 🎉
I remember working security at GMH Fisherman's Bend Port Melbourne Victoria Australia using one of these to drive around the facility until it was sent to be crushed.
The washers go cone up on lower and cone down on upper. )( like this. It centers the shaft and applies the load to the center of the bushing not the outside on the rubber. With coil over the rubber mounts won’t last because the forces applied are increased due to the change in geometry of the suspension. You should have upgraded them to performance poly types.
6/16 Please tell us the tornado missed you guys and your family, I don't know what part of Texas you guys are in, I just seen Perry Tx and seen part of a car that looked like one of yours. Prayers to all in Perry Tx. and the others that were effected.
i'd check those top mounts. as when you put the top nuts on it looked they aren't down far enough, as the nyloc part of the nut has not engaged with the threads. so although you have it tight it's not locked, and the nut can vibrate loose giving strange handling. vauxhall, part of GM for the UK used a similar/ same top mount on the strut over here.

so your 36 now wow you look great.. and a cool car. and you will love the new breaks, as 70% of your breaking power comes from the front breaks
I love the cup idea I always just punch a hole on the bottom of the filter. Let it drink keep it coming.
As a lazy home wrench spinner I put a wrench on the head of the bolt and use a dead blow hammer to break bolts loose. Kinda like an impact but you can get to more hardware than an impact. I put stuff on the same way, too.

I might be wrong but … thought all the late model GTOs were built by Holden in Australia.
Yes you are correct, they were also sent to England , new Zealand and the Middle East.
That’s why I said the original rotors came from Australia!!!

I love them GTO's. getting harder to find though.
I had an 04 GTO. It was a fun car. They were made by Holden (GM) in Australia. The Monaro is what they are called.
Love it, I miss my GTO. There's quite a few of them out this way, had a wicked sounding orange 06 revving at me over by buc-ees. Heck, if you've had Roxy on the road here recently, I might have seen her, I do recall seeing a bright red one not that long ago.

An easier trick with your oil filters is to just jab a hole in the bottom with a bucket on the ground.
Let it drain while you pop the main plug out. Then, when it's time to unscrew the filter, all the oil in there and the threaded neck had the chance to drain out.
I’m probably going to pick one of these up. They are so beautiful
When I remove the oil filter from my Cummins I kind of do the same thing but with a one-gallon ziplock bag. Keeps the mess pretty minimal.
What a car!!! I've always been a fan of Roxy GTO. She's an awesome beast.
With brake rotors a small lip is normal, measure the thickness of the disc to get the real info, in this case that info is actually cast on the disc hat! - though obviously if you are putting new pads on and the discs measure more than half worn it can be worth changing them at the same time.

I’m so glad you talk to your car… I do too,,,my Gto’s name is Gretchen. Hopefully someday the two of them can meet.

For best stopping, the brakes need to be proportioned with the weight on each axle, and you have to adjust for weight shift during deceleration. Assuming it was designed correctly, if the Baer brakes are better than stock, then your balance will be off, and the car will not stop as quickly.
Love those GTOs ! Keeper for sure !!

vauxhall, part of GM for the UK used a similar/ same top mount on the strut over here.
