Great update. Good to see that manufacturers are looking out for safety. I had one of the first Buells, and I had three replacement rear shocks on recalls. Enjoying your videos.
Nice, I have a X1, seems like loads of recalls on the early Buells unfortunately. Most fun bike to ride though. Unfortunately mine is down after a severe engine failure at the moment, rebuilding it from the bottom up.
Your a legend Delboy!! I bought those shocks in Australia for $168 delivered and they are awesome. People don’t understand about those spacers you used, they are just hex instead of round stainless is stainless whether it’s round or hex it’s just the way it comes from the factory.
Hi Moonfleet41! Yes. Is damage. My bike swings back when walking on the asphalt. It is without stability. It's not a tire. It is not Shocks. I tested. I need to change the bushings of swingarm. It's hear suspension. You is the best in HD. Congratulations!
Ok, so i thing after working through it with you Heron, you are saying that you need to replace your swing arm bearings?.. if this is so, than like i said, i have not made any video covering that.. So the best advice i can give, if you cannot take it to a garage due to cost, is to buy yourself a genuine HD service manual, and this will cover their replacement, and with a new set of bearings and seals, you could do them yourself taking care and following the step by step instructions in the manual.... sorry i cannot be more help, good luck with the job, it is pretty straight forward, you just need to read the manual fully before you start, and follow the steps, it will be easier than you think.. Good luck my friend.. Del.
+Jamie VanDalen Thanks Jamie, closing the doors on this 'shop' at the weekend, will be offline for a week, due to the broadband move, but will be back up with the big reveal the following week... !
First time commenter, long time watcher. Thanks for all the vids, D & P. My bike's coming up 8 years old so it'll start needing a little bit extra TLC and your video input will help immensely. Thanks again and all the best with the move. Cheers - Mark
+Mark Guppy Thanks Mark, you're most welcome mate... and good to hear fom you at last! Always feel to send us a line, we love to hear from viewers... all the best with your bike and please drop us a line if you need any tips or advice ! Take care, D&P !
Really enjoyed that, thanks! After seeing my bike in motion in Mike's rideout videos I'm thinking shocks would be a wise investment. It was riding really low with the wife on it. Good luck with the move; can't wait to see you all moved in.
I like the vid Del, I wish I had waited for the Tec shocks. I have fitted Progressive heavy duty (yes I ate the mince pies) It has changed the way the bike handles. Thanks to your earlier how to.
I just sold my progressive 13" 412s they are way too stiff for my 140lb the vibration was killing me. I went back to stock wich is lower softer and better for handling. Thanks for sharing I'll try TECs now... I wonder if they could work on just air so I can tune them like in my Downhill bike.
Some great tips as usual Del,,,,, sad to be he last one in that garage but out with the old and in with the new,,,,, even Jonny Cactus had a tidy up in honour of the move. Take Care guys. Boogietj
+Tony Jeffery Thanks Tony, You'll love the new place, its a workshop to die for mate...ive waited a life time to have such a great place to work in, it'll be a week offline while i get stuck in to the buildup, ill do a few videos along the way so you can see the progress..
I think we may well see quite a number of these shocks appearing on the XL platform in the coming months. A fantastic alternative to the other more expenSive brands and a splendid solution that you have come up with. I'll be really cool interested to hear the results of a few rides in due course. Now, clearly you have more pressing matters on your hands and minds and I absolutely wish you the very best with this move. A little different to the others in recent times, as this place is your own. Very exciting. Of lesser import, but enticing for all the rest of us too is the new garage. We've seen the blank canvas, but what delights from therein shall spring? Of course we can anticipate and conject to our hearts content, and that's half the fun of it. I wouldn't mind betting a pound on the fact that you're looking forward to the reveal as much as we are!
+pgod1960 We most certainly are Peter , it's like all our Christmasas at once... and it's the culmination of 10yrs saving and going without! You're gonna love the new garage mate, we pretty much bet the barn on it, but it's gonna be worth it, as it's now gonna be more or less, a filming studio... and I hope you're right on the Harley shocks, been chatting on email with George tonight and they've already started making the spacers to form a 'fitting kit' to make the whole thing bolt on for any Harley rider... and it will be the first video in the new garage where I take me nuts off and fit the rounded spacers ooeer! Moving tomorrow, a big deep breath and here we go....!
Hi Del, I thought you were limited with shocks on the harley as they only have about about 1.5 inches of travel and most shocks have about 3 inches of travel. Harley shocks will bottom out but shocks with longer travel would cause the tyre to hit the fender.
Thank you for the information. You got it. I need to replace the bearings. I'll buy the service manual. In Brazil it costs US $ 45 dollars. You are the best. If one day I visit Brasil / Brasilia I will help you in my house. Just let me know. kkk ... Let's fix HD bikes here in Brazil.
Hi, your video is very good. I would like to mount the absorber in the video on my HD sportster superlow; I have only a doubt, I didn't find the fitting kit to reduce diameter of upper attack in TEC web, how can I order it? Using moto with a passenger the absorber improve the situation?
Delboy, can I ask you, do you always need to change front and rear suspention when lowering? Im just new, in this. Bought My first motor, HD sportster 99 XL1200 a few weeks ago. Thank you in advance
D & P - nice upgrade and at 129 GBP ( 184 USD ) that's a great value - the question is why would someone not upgrade to that level of adjustability ?! Would love to watch a feedback video also. Thanks for sharing and look forward to more stuff from the new garage. EW :)
+Ernst “Banditboy” Wondering Thanks Ernst, may well do a follow up.... Penny has a pair on the Scrambler as well... they are great value and are so much better than the factory ones!
Hi Delboy. Crackin vid. I've got the same bike. I'm about to buy some for minr. You said the spanner is 1/4 inch for holding locking nut... but what size is the Torque bit to losen bolt? Dose not say in work shop manual. Help....
+Michael Rench Hi Mike, I can do that for you mate... ! I'll just need the details of the fittings on your bike and I can send you the plans for what you need to make to make them fit... a shock is a shock, they are a reasonably universal item, it's on the spring rate and fittings that differ... let me know when you're taking delivery lol !
Thanks Del and Penny for another great video., and as others have said, sad to say goodbye to that shop, but you are able to even do half as much (forget double) in the new space,we would all be happy! It was your videos that first put me onto the TEC shocks (and the rest of their products for that matter) but as a new rider whose experience is limited to my first and only bike, a triumph Bonneville, I'm not sure what sort of qualitative change I should expect in changing my stock shocks. People will say it will feel "better" less bouncy or less squishy/squidgy/sloppy/hoppy/bouncy/flouncy...but what does that mean? Could you describe the differences before and after in a given scenario? Tight cornering? Steering response? Over uneven ground? Where and how will I feel the difference of upgrading my shocks? My butt doesn't seem to calibrated well enough to feel what's wrong or lacking with my stock shocks yet.... Thanks and congrats again on the new space! Can't wait for the first vid!
+Phoeff99 Hi mate... the very simplest way to put it is...if you dont notice the performance of your shocks, then you are all good to go...no need to change... any deficiency is only felt at the limit...i push my bikes hard and ride like i stole them....thats why i find the factory shocks run out of ability to control the back end very quickly....but when i push the TEC shocks, the bike just keep asking for more.... so unless you are riding like a bonehead, (like i do), then you dont need them buddy... but then, some people fit them because they look good and last for ever (because they are rebuildable, not thrwo away like the factory ones)..
Hi Del & Penny. Excellent video again and i watched it just in time as i have been looking to upgrade the suspension on my 48. Quick question about doing that though. The stock shocks are 11.5 in, or 292 mm for us metric people, and the shortest length TEC do seems to be 12.5 in or 310mm. Any issues in raising the back by an inch? Belt tension or anything else? Also have you done any vids on putting an after market air filter on a harley? I have a V&H naked vo2 with a fuelpak FP3 that is coming from the US of a in a couple of weeks.
Hi, thanks for your videos, they are really great. I have a sportster 2000, it's in 11,5". I really like to buy those TEC shocks, and I want to mount the spacer to push it to 13", because it's very low and the rear tire is touching the fender, on bumps, when I have a passenger. Did the smaller bushes come with the TEC shocks? And please, should i take the Triumph Scrambler 22ad89 reference? I found them on ebay for 139 Pounds. Thanks again
Hey Kamal.. Glad to hear that you like the TEC shocks... the best advice i can give is to call the guys at TEC directly, tell then exactly what you want to do and they will send you the exact right shocks for your bike... that way there will be no dramas of getting the wrong parts.... The number is on their website and they are very helpful.. Good luck with it, let us know how you get on..... Del.
Hi Del What Torx bit is required to remove to rear shocks.....I have a sportster XL1200C from 2004. Done a quick search on web and all a bit vague, hence the moment to yourself Keep up the good work lad love the videos...
Hi Doug. Its usually a T-50 buddy... but i have had an 03 bike on the bench that had T-40 bolts.... but any set should have both..! hope that helps matey.. ..
great gear that tec and motone from what ive seen you use thus far... why pay shed loads ? i like your way... happy moving see you in the new gaff xxxxx
+springy 2112 Cheers Brother....cant wait to get in to the new place, and the garage is gonna be just daft...spent more on it that i have on most bikes...lol
Hi Delboy I'm changing location of my rear indicators on my Sportster my problem is the long bolt hits the tire would raising the rear end help or would I need to unbolt the bottom shock bolt to raise the swingarm enough to get the bolt out. Regards Rob
H Bob... does loosening the bolt not allow the indicator body to be pulled away from the fender strut?.. if it does, then presumably the bolt head can be turned and remain flat against the inside of fender.... No?.
+Gavin Grierson Yes... contact George at TEC, tell him what bike you have ans how you've adapted it.. and he can work with that to make what you need.... tell him i said hi... Del.
Hey Delboy! My Iron's top belt cover just randomly broke, and since it's the same bolt, I decided I might upgrade the stock shocks as well. Would you have a recommendation on a tool kit that includes that size of a torx bit (can't believe it doesn't specify it in the service manual) plus other imperial tools? I find it hard to find any here in Spain without going to the super-premium HD-official tool kits. Thanks!!!
Hi Aker, if you mean what is the size of the shock mounting bolt.. it is "Torx T50" not metric of imperial.. Torx are just their own scale.. I dont know of any kits i can recommend.. specially in Spain, but as long at it includes a T50, then that will fit your shock mounts.! Hope that helps.
Hey! Thanks for the response! I'll go hunting for a T50 then! I meant a kit including imperial spanners and allen keys, as well as the T50. I've heard great comments on the CruzTools H3, for example, but it doesn't contain a T50.
+Tony “2wheels” C Hi mate contact the guys at TEC directly via the link and tell them you want them for your Sportster... the springs are weighted for a Sportster and you need a Harley specific fitting kit whilst the shocks are reasonably uinversal, the ones they are sending out for Harleys need the 10mm spacers and thicker bushing sleeves ... so make sure they are for a Harley ! I'll be making a video agao shortly once the garage is open showing this new fitting kit going in place... from now on, all shocks for Harleys will be sent out with the kit... for £129 get stuck in whilst stocks last !
Del----huge fan from Ontario, Canada. Thanks for the great explanatory videos. As I am doing my search of what shocks are best for my Sporty Iron, I have heard of swapping out the factory ones for stock Road King shocks. Have you heard of that? Any thoughts? Thanks. - Nello
Hey Nello, good to hear from you sir, and thanks for getting in touch... Yes the Glide shocks is an age old trick that, would you believe, goes back all the way to the 1970's... guys who rode Ironhead Sportsters had just about the worst shock absorber option possible... (it was 40 years ago, im sure you can imagine lol).... so a really common and popular upgrade, was to fit a second hand pair of the air shocks from an old Police Special........ Now this has endured, and even to this day, if a Bagger owner upgrades to some fancy shocks, then he can sell his factory ones for almost what he paid for the upgraded ones.. they are so popular they sell right away on eBay..... so Yes, fit them and you'll see why, they are height adjustable with the air valve, and ride really smooth as you would imagine...! you may need to make a few small adjustments or mods to get them to fit.. but nothing drastic, its just common sense.. so if you get stuck, bt all means drop me a line and ill talk you through it.. Hope that helps... Good luck and keep warm, i imagine its baddass cold over there at the moment.! take care.. Del.
Del, Thanks so much for your reply and your offer to help. I'll do a bit more research and some searching on ebay and see where I end up. I may even settle for the progressives 412 so I am weighing my options. The weather has been alright. Its a balmy 3 degrees right now which is a heat wave for the middle of January. Be well and thanks again. N
Yo Delboy. I ordered some TECs for my Sporty through a third Party, Dime City Cycles. Where could I get that 30mil spacer to extend the shocks ? How would I go about it. I found them through this video a while back and just got around to ordering them. Thanks for your the time man your a bad ass. Mad Respect from New Jersey 🤘🏻⚡️⚡️
Hey there brother, good to hear from you... when you buy these shocks from TEC directly, they come with the spacers included, and also on the Dime City website it says they're included in the pack, so you should have them!... I would either contact Dime City and ask where they are, or alternatively you could contact TEC and am sure you could order a couple, here's link for you: www.tecbikeparts.com/contact/
Hi buddy, I think has upgraded the shocks now, and they are £139 Sterling UK for the damping adjustable ones, he also does them in all black now, so I guess this video almost 18 months ago, and they've gone up a little in price, but the ones pertain to this video are the £139 ones now... still, ridiculously cheap for what they are I think !
Nice video I have a 2000 Harley Davidson Sportster I see you center Jack iam looking for something like that could you point me too the one I need if you can thanks
Hi Moonfleet41! Yes. Is damage. My bike swings back when walking on the asphalt. It is without stability. It's not a tire. It is not Shocks. I tested. I need to change the bushings of swingarm. It's hear suspension. You is the best in HD. Congratulations!
sent this to hdforum with 200 views ,no replies. after searching interwebs it would seem raising the rear shocks by 1 " i will gain better ground clearance so this should be the way forward, when and if i go back to graft and can afford it, then i watched your vid and now i am not so sure 3 thou miles on my 2008 super glide now, new tires and 15 weight oil in forks, so much better but still not happy with handling, stock front and rear suspension is almost certainly the problem but i dont have funds to buy aftermarket parts yet, my biggest issue is exhaust clearance on my standard exhaust with Harley slip ons fitted , it seams that even low speed right hand bends are scrapping the slip on muffler this prob looks great from the rear with sparks flying but does nowt for rider confidence, has any body had any success in remedying this, left side no probs foot pegs i dont mid grinding but when the bike wants to sit up mid right hand corner its time to make some changes, the bike is 100 percent original with no mods and i like to keep up with my mates pan European and my mates gs1100 shaft drive on a 1982 plate. yes its on full preload. whats you thinking on it del PS not trying to hijack your channel, Promise keep safe and dont park it up for christmas, theres stills dry sunny days ahead
It sounds like you're having a problem, from the way you describe it, with wanting to lean your bike further than the under carriage will allow? And you say you're trying to keep up with road style bikes, when Harley's are a cruiser style bike... they will always have limited ground clearance by comparison... All I could suggest, maybe, is to take a look at one of the high level exhaust systems that runs up the side of the bike, I think Bassani and a few others, certainly Rough Crafts from Japan, but that would give you a street scrambler style exhaust that would hang it 6" higher than your exhausts, up level with your shock... but as you say, you don't have money to buy parts, not really sure what to suggest.
You wouldnt happen to be in the print industry would you? I recognize that hook scale. One side has imperial/metric measurement, the other has 6/12 point measurements.
I dissagree with your assessment on the linger shock making the bike less stable withthe handling. Most sportster owners in the US go with the longer shocks. My reason for doing it is to help in cornering by raising the ground clearance. Just my opinion.
Use what works best for you Jeff.. old video, but it think my point was they lowered suspension always makes any vehicle more stable.. longer shocks do indeed enable steeper lean angles though.. :-)
Hello Jack, good to hear from you and thank you for our kind words... the link to the supplier is under the video, but here is it is again: www.tecbikeparts.com/ Just select the correct ones for your bike/year and if in any doubt, contact George, the owner of TEC Bike Parts, and he'll be happy to advise!
Nothing libel about what I said, I actually bought a pair and had the the oil seals leak after only a month and it wasn't a small leak it was quite profuse. If your going to do any real riding don't buy these, but if you just want people to see you have shocks with cooling looking piggyback reservoirs once each sunday be my guest. These type of products aren't gucci bags where you're just paying for a name, if you want a quality part that's going to last, buy from a quality brand.
+Lmenzol I had those shocks on my Bonneville and also now on the Scrambler, and I've never had a problem with them, have done many, many miles on them and still very happy with them... maybe, if you've had a different experience, it would be right to contact George Milburn at TEC and explain, if they don't know about any issues, they can't resolve them, or work with customers to get to the bottom of it and find out what the problem is... as we said in the video, they are a budget shock, but not everyone has the means to spend much more on expensive ones, and as far as we're concerned, and quite a few people we know who also have them, they are really very happy and have found no faults with them at all, regards, Penny
Wow, them hubs cleaned up a treat, great video Sir

Also have you done any vids on putting an after market air filter on a harley? I have a V&H naked vo2 with a fuelpak FP3 that is coming from the US of a in a couple of weeks.
Hi Del any comments on my post above?
Del.
Thanks Del, you're very helpful, will let you know.
Hi Del
What Torx bit is required to remove to rear shocks.....I have a sportster XL1200C from 2004. Done a quick search on web and all a bit vague, hence the moment to yourself
Keep up the good work lad love the videos...
Hey del just wondering what i can use to clean those black marks off your exhaust kind of annoying after having used autosol to shine it up
+Meterz. What black marks mate..? boot burns, greasy hand prints... what casued them..?
would luv a set of these for my scrambler.. shame they dont ship to Australia :(
+Nitermare They used to have a retailer there but didnt sell enough to make it work....have you asked if they can post you a pair..?
Ah bummer.. yes i've emailed them 3 times about getting some stuff from them but unfortunately haven't had a responce yet.
Hi Delboy
I'm changing location of my rear indicators on my Sportster my problem is the long bolt hits the tire would raising the rear end help or would I need to unbolt the bottom shock bolt to raise the swingarm enough to get the bolt out.
Regards
Rob
H Bob... does loosening the bolt not allow the indicator body to be pulled away from the fender strut?.. if it does, then presumably the bolt head can be turned and remain flat against the inside of fender.... No?.
@@Moonfleet41 Yeah that's right I get it all loose but if I try and pull the bolt out from the inside of the fender it hits the tire.
great vid. I'm needing a new set of shocks on my Dyna that's been triked, do you think these would do the business?
+Gavin Grierson Yes... contact George at TEC, tell him what bike you have ans how you've adapted it.. and he can work with that to make what you need.... tell him i said hi... Del.
I have a sportster xl1200c which shocks did you order that will fit..or what are they originally for?
I’m wondering the same thing
Another awesome video. Which shocks are these? There are quite a few on their site.
I have a 2010 sportster nightster.
Cheers Delboy.
+Moonfleet41 thank you. Ill get some as soon as!! Keep up the awesome work.
Del/Penny, also a fan from Ontario. Can you get as soft a ride with the TEC as you would with the Glide? Thanks for all the great vids guys.
I ordered them at 12.5. But I really want 13.5
Right on Del. Thanks for your help. Your the man 🤘🏻⚡️⚡️
Hi Del, what size torx bit do you need for the rear shocks? Thanks Alex
+The gameing melon Hi Alex, on a Harley they are "T50" buddy... hope that helps.. Del.
+Moonfleet41 Great thanks all sorted.
Great video man. I want a pair but cant seem to find the ones at $129 pounds on the site, can I ask for the model of these shocks?
Hi buddy, I think has upgraded the shocks now, and they are £139 Sterling UK for the damping adjustable ones, he also does them in all black now, so I guess this video almost 18 months ago, and they've gone up a little in price, but the ones pertain to this video are the £139 ones now... still, ridiculously cheap for what they are I think !
Moonfleet41 great man! Thanks. I agree, they seem to be worth that money. The ones in black will look great.
Nice video I have a 2000 Harley Davidson Sportster I see you center Jack iam looking for something like that could you point me too the one I need if you can thanks
Here you go..! www.spanner-monkey.co.uk/scissor-stand-for-motorcycles-450kg-115618?search=MC5908&description=true
Hi, Moonfleet! Replace swingarm of Sportster.
I have not made a video of replacing the swing arm im afraid, never needed to replace one... is yours damaged.?
Hi Moonfleet41! Yes. Is damage.
My bike swings back when walking on the asphalt. It is without stability. It's not a tire. It is not Shocks. I tested. I need to change the bushings of swingarm. It's hear suspension. You is the best in HD. Congratulations!
Send me all those 13” shocks, I need clearance, all those short shocks, is look cool, but cool is a handling motorbike!
Hey del can you help me find some in the US , know any similar?I ride a 2010 iron 883
Hi Victor, here you go, they have a US website: www.tecbikepartsusa.com/
Thanks
Why does the EU Harleys have 2" longer shocks than the US models?
I don't think they do any more mate, I think that was up till about 2012, and who knows what the reason was, probably some daft Euro law - again !
sent this to hdforum with 200 views ,no replies. after searching interwebs it would seem raising the rear shocks by 1 " i will gain better ground clearance so this should be the way forward, when and if i go back to graft and can afford it, then i watched your vid and now i am not so sure
3 thou miles on my 2008 super glide now, new tires and 15 weight oil in forks, so much better but still not happy with handling, stock front and rear suspension is almost certainly the problem but i dont have funds to buy aftermarket parts yet, my biggest issue is exhaust clearance on my standard exhaust with Harley slip ons fitted , it seams that even low speed right hand bends are scrapping the slip on muffler this prob looks great from the rear with sparks flying but does nowt for rider confidence, has any body had any success in remedying this, left side no probs foot pegs i dont mid grinding but when the bike wants to sit up mid right hand corner its time to make some changes, the bike is 100 percent original with no mods and i like to keep up with my mates pan European and my mates gs1100 shaft drive on a 1982 plate.
yes its on full preload.
whats you thinking on it del
PS not trying to hijack your channel, Promise
keep safe
and dont park it up for christmas, theres stills dry sunny days ahead
+Robert Johnson No mate, am just a humble bus driver, don't even know what a hook scale is lol !
+Moonfleet41 your ruler in that video.
+Robert Johnson Oh right, that was a gift from a kind viewer mate!
do you have an email address i think that my shocks are not in the place, and i would like to send a picture for you to see
+גל יפת No blroadband for a week now, but send to "moonfleet10@yahoo.co.uk" and ill have a look what i come back on line..
Hi, my friend! Vídeo Swingarm maintence of HD Sportster.
Ok, "Swing Arm maintenance", its a solid steel part of the frame, so what maintenance do you need to do to it, ?
Moonflee tHi! swap swingarm of sportster. Replace part.
moto clube de faro t shirt?
+Rui Simão Oh yeah...!
can I have the model number of your gas shock and where to order them thank you
Jack
Hello Jack, good to hear from you and thank you for our kind words... the link to the supplier is under the video, but here is it is again: www.tecbikeparts.com/ Just select the correct ones for your bike/year and if in any doubt, contact George, the owner of TEC Bike Parts, and he'll be happy to advise!
you come across as a bit manic today are you on wiz. but good video as allways
these shocks are garbage dont waste your money or time.A little extra money for quality goes a long way
+Lmenzol Care to qualify that libelous remark??? Or are you just a label tart???
Nothing libel about what I said, I actually bought a pair and had the the oil seals leak after only a month and it wasn't a small leak it was quite profuse. If your going to do any real riding don't buy these, but if you just want people to see you have shocks with cooling looking piggyback reservoirs once each sunday be my guest. These type of products aren't gucci bags where you're just paying for a name, if you want a quality part that's going to last, buy from a quality brand.
+Lmenzol I had those shocks on my Bonneville and also now on the Scrambler, and I've never had a problem with them, have done many, many miles on them and still very happy with them... maybe, if you've had a different experience, it would be right to contact George Milburn at TEC and explain, if they don't know about any issues, they can't resolve them, or work with customers to get to the bottom of it and find out what the problem is... as we said in the video, they are a budget shock, but not everyone has the means to spend much more on expensive ones, and as far as we're concerned, and quite a few people we know who also have them, they are really very happy and have found no faults with them at all, regards, Penny
more power to you if they worked for you i just had a bad experience and saved up for a different brand best of luck and safe riding to you
