  • Scout Leaders, I'm sure we've all been there-those days when work drains every ounce of energy, and the thought of leading Scouts feels like climbing a mountain. In this video, I share my honest experience of one of those tough nights: from battling exhaustion to facing a hyper Scout group. Despite it all, there's a heartfelt reminder from a fellow leader that helped me push through. Whether you're a seasoned Scout Leader or just starting, this one is for you. Remember, we’re all human-just do your best!

I have had the the opposite, where I was mentally drained, after a busy workday. Getting to the scout meeting, using the brain in another way, and the scouts, gave me a boost of energy.

I had one of those weeks. I'm a full time carer to a disabled child so troop nights are usually the time of the week where I can just not be the burned out parent. I was so exhausted on Wednesday but I was in luck, the Scouts were actually relatively well behaved (still chaotic ofcourse) and finished off their badge work so I got to go home feeling good.
I have an 'emergency list of activities' ready for when I just can't human 😂 this includes getting the board games out, just an entire evening of wide games (I have the best parent helper who's great at these!) or I just get the massive speaker out, the YP will add songs to a playlist and just dance and hang around. Everyone happy.
Do your best, your best is enough. After all it's in the promise!

Cub meetings on a day when they had wet play at school were a nightmare, they would be bouncing off the walls, we just gave them some energetic games to try and tire them out...

100% quite often my own kids tell me that they’ve had wet play at school and I might even just change the scout programme to a games night, but in this occasion it was me that had zero energy and motivation for scouts

I've found this this week, the third week of January, is always a horrible week. YP dont list, everyone is tired, getting wound up and annoying each other. So much so that the last few years, we've planned it to be when we write/review our code of conduct

I had a bad week, poor sleep bad mood, and leading onto a Explorers Hiking weekend with Camp, I knew i was going to be useless and camping was not going to be pleasant so i sent in my apologies, fortunately we have a good team around us.

Our troop usually meets 2 times per month on Monday evenings. We cancelled the meeting this week because the weather was about -30 C. How often do Scouts meet for you?

We meet every week during school terms - and just like you, we meet on a Monday evening
