Being a total Prince fan and a radio DJ was very difficult. I was a “baby” jock so I worked weekend overnights. I had gotten my bootleg of the Black Album and didn’t dare try to slip in any Black Album tracks. The one thing I could do was take and use the lyric “put it where it feels good!” I would use that phrase anytime I could.
@dcc Clinton prince has a reallybgood voice as well. Micheal just had a higher vocal range in his chest voice, but Prince head voice and scream vocals arr insane
I love this WHOLE album....the beats are funky....o I still listen to the album like if it just came out...clap ur hands like double time...up in here.👏🏽👏🏽💜💜💜
Prince at his most raw and funky. Lovesexy was a good album but a tame replacement for this potentially explosive alternative successor to Sign O' The Times
I’m gonna go ahead and disagree. I think lovesexy is a masterpiece. I love this album but I 100% see why this wasn’t released. Bob George alone is a good enough reason it didn’t release.
I thought it did get released but Prince had them all pulled from stores because he was under the influence of Camille Shockadelica when he recorded it
The reason given at the time from release being pulled was that 'spooky electric' (referenced a year later in 'eye know') had influenced him. Is why on the cover of Lovesexy Prince is naked (reborn) and lots of lyrics throughout the songs reference his faith. The truth however is likely more commerical: the Black album didn't hold a light to Sign O The Times and Prince feared it would be a commerical failure. He did play songs from the Black album on his Lovesexy tour. Personally I love the Black album but it isnt as high a watermark as Lovesexy.
@@sterlmorrison Just read your opinion and it's compelling. I understand Black was to be his return to black music. Then Lovesexy was the album because he feared dying with Black and it might be his last and he thought it was bad juju. But it's likely (sadly) you’re right about commercialism. The thing is - I think Lovesexy (specifically) is the most insanely brilliant album Prince has ever written. It's utterly, cripplingly brilliant. I love the fake london accents here. On the off beat, I sing to myself... 'grind,.. le grind', when I'm walking down the street in Crazy Rich Hampstead..... Makes me feel at home.
VERY IMPORTANT!!!! Please add that this album was actually his 10th to be released but was recalled. Understanding this history helps the album make sense coming right before Lovesexy and having some of the left over sounds from SOTT. VERY IMPORTANT if you are a Prince fan and are reviewing his musical growth through his album releases.
Not releasing this album plus not touring the States for SOTT ended an unprecedented 8 or 9 album streak of insane brilliance. Something happened after this era ended. Could have been the dismissal of Wendy and Lisa and the Revolution but there is a significant drop in product quality following this period and then again after the Gold Experience.

Michael Jackson, prince and James Brown are all musical legends no matter the nickname well which one you prefer is really minor ☮️

This album is Prince's best work of art. It's a shame that it isn't on itunes.

Not on tidal anymore
Back when he was alive I would think that about the newest album.
the best is subjective as the pest and personal in time and space
Prince at his most raw and funky. Lovesexy was a good album but a tame replacement for this potentially explosive alternative successor to Sign O' The Times
The lovesexy album is a masterpiece
Lovesexy is probably his best album. It feels like an experience.
Tame? I disagree. Lovesexy is complex and dense. Layers of harmonies and counterpoint and amazing tones. It's almost like a prog album at times.
