I got a silver sword today for $9.99 in a 3” pot in Michigan. It’s crazy to read the comments and see all the different prices everywhere!
I got mine a couple of months ago and I think it didn't like the move because it kept dropping leaves BUT THEN it started exploding! There are currently like 10 new leafes growing at the same time now. It's a complete mistery to me but I love it :D
Anyone else like before actually watching the video?
❤️❤️❤️
I just bought one today! Had been wanting one and watching your videos about them. Found it for $23 at Menard’s, a Midwestern US home improvement store similar to Home Depot. I’ve noticed this particular store has had a problem with mealy bugs the past week or so. So I didn’t buy it yesterday. Thought about it all day today, and had to have it! I inspected it closely and could not find any bugs on it. So I brought it home and washed it in the shower. It’s currently on quarantine until I can make sure it’s bug free before it meets my other plants! It’s so beautiful! 😍
You are so fortunate to have found that plant for $25. I recently saw one in Northern California at a popup sale - two leaves in a 3 inch pot for $75! I'm still looking for one. Love your videos, Fern!
Wow! That’s so wild! I do feel lucky, as I don’t usually find much this affordable here.
Jesus, I got a small plant with 4 leaves for $50 with at least 15+ others.
Your silver sword is goals, I’m on the hunt for a more mature one 😭😭😭
This plant is on my wishlist because of you :) but OMG you found one for 25 dollars?! That’s crazy!! These can get so expensive!
Yes they can be pricey for sure! I got super lucky.
i just got one of these the other day this is perfect timing !
👏
Same here 🥳
Same haha lovely
I love this plant in her videos and didn’t think it could look better in person like she said. I got a cutting a week ago and I already bought a full plant on its way. The leaves are so beautiful
Just got my 1st one today. Going to do the moss pole! Thanks for info!
Pics DEF do not do this plant justice. Would never have gotten one until I saw it in person. They are so lovely!
When you say you got it from a cutting, they are always enormous to begin with compared to my cuttings. Mine are tiny, rooted few centimeter sized leafs.. takes a while to grow 🙂
Just got one 10 minutes ago and came to see how to treat it 😂 paid 13$ in tlv for a nice sized pot with large leaves, i'm obsessed with it already!
That is amazing! They are one of my absolute favourite plants. Enjoy growing it ☺️
Perfect timing! I just ordered one yesterday! It’s been a wish list plant for me since I started the hobby!!
Ahhh so exciting! Enjoy it 🥰
I'm waiting for mine to come in the mail. Super excited about it.
I just got a couple cuttings that a lady had been rooting in water for three months. Only one of them had about one inch of root growth! So I put one in moss and the other in a bit of stratum I had. Can’t wait to see how it goes!
my #1 wishlist plant and i might finally get ahold of one this weekend! perfect timing for this video 😍
Thanks for the info!
I just got my P.H. it has 4 or 5 leaves..
Looking forward to see a mature form!
Greetings from Honduras 💐
I got a cutting in a trade and loved the colour but it wasn't until I saw yours that I became obsessed. I really love it and after seeing your new growth I'm even more obsessed. What a great find 💚
It is really such a lovely plant to grow 🥰
This plant is definitely high on my wishlist. Watching you care for it made me want to get my own!
Hope you find one! 🥺
Costco in Washington just had HUGE ones for $26!
Fabulous deal!
Another mediocre day made amazing by a video from fern 💛
You're the best! Thank you ☺️🥺
You have a gorgeous P. Silver Sword. I do have a young plant of PSS, it's not as big as yours however I know what you mean by the striking color. I just love mine and it is growing fairly well to my surprise.
I didn’t want one of these either until I got one as a baby plant for my daughter and had to keep it for a couple months and I fell in love with them! I now have my own and it is so chill and beautiful ☺️
Ohhh fire. They are very chill, I love it.
I just picked up a tiny one at a plant swap and so excited to watch it grow.
One of my best plants, have never owned a humidifier. It just has loads of natural light and grows and grows up a sphagmum moss pole
Great video. I just got one today for 12 bucks. Was searching YT and found this. Best vid thus far on this plant.
Oh yes this Video is SO welcomed! Thank you 🙏🏻
I just got a little one a few weeks ago, it's had rough time because the shop messed it up but I have gotten 2 new leafs and I'm hoping it'll do well and be a big pretty guy one day. I already made a moss pole for him and will be transplanting soon.
I'm obsessed with your plant though
I've got one yesterday and it's my new baby!! I LOVE this plant so much! 😍
Here in Germany they're really cheap 😅🤔 always interesting to see the difference in prices
I want to move to Germany for cheaper plants 🍃💚
@@onenessnow3469 Not all plants are cheap here 😁 I don't know the Canadian oder American prices for a Thai constellation but for a good cutting in Germany you have to pay something like 200-250€ 🥲
But the philodendron silver sword is a typical houseplant... Even before the hype 😄 you can buy big plants in big greenhouses for 30-40 Euro :)
@@soso96soso I think it's a cheap plant all over EU. I'm from Romania and just bought one that consists in 3 plants in a 17 cm pot with a height of 70-75 cm, including a coco pole. All that for ~ 20 EUR. The same shop sells a big Thai Constellation for 400 EUR 🤢
I recently purchased a baby silver sword philo. They’re very expensive and hard to find here in FL. The beautiful leaves have me so mesmerized and I hope to get mine as big and luscious as yours! I love your energy I’m subscribing ❤️
I just got mine today at LOWES for $7.00…I’m in love🥰🥰🥰
$70 here in Nova Scotia for a 6" pot. You've seen this at CT?! I just bought this/.
I just ordered mine today 3/5 and I am super excited. You got a really good deal on that plant. Mine was much more expensive for a smaller plant.
Omg this is my favorite plant just because of you, yours is literally amazing!!! So stunning 💚
Thank you so much!
I can feel the love you have for your plant in this video :)
I just got one for valentine’s! they are so lovely and he’s already giving me a new leaf!
i'm obsessed with your chanel omg and this silver sword is so pretty
Love love love silver sword! ❤️
I just bought one because of you. I ran home and looks for this video just to watch lol
mine was also $25 but it is a LOT smaller! I got it from my favorite local nursery that also has ones a bit bigger than yours that are about $75, so you got a good deal!
Love my silver sword, definatly one of my favorite and easy plant
Crazy prices, i got mine in a 5inches pot for 5 euros in France
i‘m so excited for mine getting huge 🪴
Omg I just managed to find a huge one at my local grocery store 😍 Perfect timing 💚
Gorgeous plant! Thanks for the great info. Enjoy it. 🪴🌿
I have a cutting and I’m super in love with it😍. I just don’t know what soil mix to use when I’ll need to plant it
Gawd that plant looks so good on that moth pole
Nice video. I just got one of these and I am in Ontario. Do you know where I can get a Calathea white fusion?
You are so lucky to get a huge one at that price! Those ears are gorgeous! I got a small one in the mail in November and it was putting out a leaf which came out deformed because I think it had thrips so I got rid of them and the newest leaf looks okay but tiny ☹️ so I’m wondering if I should just chop the top off but I hate cutting plants 😩!
Hi Fern! Loved the video! Yes I have one too I just purchased a small one a few months ago and she is loving life on a pole! I want to get another one to fill up the pot. Thank you Fern for all you do! XOXO Nikki from Winnipeg, Manitoba,
Oh amazing, they are so fun to grow. Thank you so much! ❤️
I can’t wait to find a deal like that! I love the new leaves 😍
Right! I got so lucky. It’s so pretty.
@@wildfern it’s gorgeous 💚
I love my Hastarum to! ❤️ I have my in Pon. And yesterday I did my first ever polination. Yep. It had two flowers. I wonder if I will get a fruit with seed's so I get million's of Swords. 😎
Ahhhh what! That's amazing!
You read my mind... what’s funny is yesterday I actually looked up videos on silversword. I saw this but I thought it was your repot video which I already watched 😂😂 I was lucky to get one a little more mature like that one ☝️
Omg, yes! I'm about to pick up my huge hastatum and ugh I can't wait! Amazing video
Yay! Thank you so much :)
A few videos ago, I left a comment that you inspired my love for silver swords and I purchased a massive, mature cutting. Since then, I moved across the country and my cat was in a large dog cage in the back of my SUV. He was mad at life, reached out of the cage and pulled the silver sword close enough to shredddddd the leaves 🙃 devastating, but I’m hoping he will start pushing new leaves soon so I can cut the massacred ones
I do have one and it’s huge it started off small it has latched onto this massive pole I made it and now it’s giving me mature leaves and I’m even more in love and I swear I tell everyone the same thing I didn’t want this plant much either until I seen it and I absolutely fell in love! Pictures do not do this plant any justice at all 💯💖
Woooow that sounds amazing! I can't wait until mine starts climbing the pole.
@@wildfern yes it will and the leaves will just keep getting bigger and look more like swords ⚔️🤩💖
Beautiful! I love the moss pole too! I have to make one just like that ☺️
I just found one in the uk! He was selling for £10! Don’t think he realised how much they are still 😁
That’s amazing 👏!!
I have one about ready for a pole, it's growing great and I love it!
I'm so glad yours is doing well too!
how long prelim. does it take to get mature leafs from a baby?
My sword was doing great but winter hit and it started to drop leaves. It's small not matured yet and I'm scared it'll die before we even get to spring.
Hell yeah needed this just brought one! The other day ✨✨✨✨❤
Perfect!!!
So cool! Definitely on my wish list!!! 🥰😍
Please help me with my beautiful but very broken philodendron silver sword. Late last night my huge hanging Pothos macrame broke and landed on many but my favorite got hurt the worst. Top leaf with the newest leaf unfurling broke off and another leaf without a node broke. Please help me save the top! I just recently learned that propping in sphagnum moss is quickest so I have the top cut in moss now but I'm worried it might rot. Please help save my favorite plant!! What should I do?
can you show us the first cutting , how it looks now
I just got a dragon scale alocasia, this one was sitting right next to it!
Got mine from Gabriella Plants. Wish I had the same experience as some of the others but the first Silver Sword I received was damaged by cold despite purchasing Winter Insurance and they were great in addressing it. However, the replacement (hindsight, should’ve gotten a refund) had severe root rot. I submitted a review a while ago but it’s not up. So… Not even sure how to feel about it. Cut the roots and stuck the nodes in water and hoping for the best, but from what I heard, SS take a REALLY long time to root. A couple of the leaves have already started to yellow.
Update: They issued a refund for the SS due to the circumstances.
Glad to hear you got a refund! And yes, I've had major difficulties rooting cuttings from these guys lately!!
What a beautiful specimen! Will keep my eyes peeled for one but I doubt it will hit the Caribbean market anytime soon :’(
Awe! Fingers crossed
My silver sword is my fav plant... this week 😘
Hahaha yesss
Omg I literally bought one tonight!!!! What the heck!
I got mine for only 10€ like 12 dollars. I live in Germany and they are very commun Here.
I bought mine yesterday, it’s not looking too good. The leaves are limp and soft, i noticed minor webbing in the soil. when inspecting the foliage i found patches that looked translucent, tiny holes were visible. i’m suspecting some sort of mites got to it in the greenhouse i bought it from. I sprayed it with a mixture of neem oil, peppermint oil, dishsoap and water. Any advice?
Girlie pop mentions Canadian tire at any opportunity 😭
Mine is dying 😢 just all the leaves keep turning yellow and dropping - gets lighting from grow lights and watered consistently but doesn’t sit in water - no idea why
I think silver sword is one of the easiest Philodendron. I got mine long time ago and basically silver sword has helped me in learning how to propagate and how to transition to LECA ♡
The only problem is that sometimes the new leaf gets stuck but that's no big deal
Yes I’ve noticed that! Oh philodendron and their inchworm leaves...
girl I wanna know what's going on with your hoya compacta variegata?? You always seem to have issues with it but I need an update!
(It's a wish list plant for me right now and my obsession is growing uncontrollably)
love your videos and vibes ❤️
i recently bought a silver dust philodendron thinking it was a silver sword and can’t seem to find any videos on their care! I’m presuming they are quite similar but does anyone have any info or tips for them!
You have gushed about these so much it has officially made it's way onto my wishlist, now i won't rest until i can find one 😅
Edit: I just found one online from a plant nursery! It's just a little baby but it was less than 4€!! I just have to wait until it's warm enough here for them to ship it
Ahhh that’s such an amazing price! Well done 👏
Have you had any problems with algae on your moss poles?
there is some growing but I don't consider it a problem, I think it helps if you spray/wet them with hydrogen peroxide. haven't tried it yet though!
OMG where did you get that sweater? I love it!
Urban outfitters
Quería encontrar información sobre el sustrato :(
The potting mix is coco coir, perlite, pumice, and orchid bark.
mine is blooming, should I cut it off? I dont want my plant to waste energy for that… Would you cut it or not?
love your videos ✨
You can if you want but I don't think they last very long anyways :)
I definitely noticed they're not the fastest growers! Mine is still more or less a baby & has been working on 2 new growth points for probably a year haha
Ironically I'm so happy to hear that. I saw a really massive one for a great deal and have been nervous about getting it because I just have way too many plants and I think they may kick me out of my house soon if they grow any faster.
Mine gives me about one leaf per month
Hi Fern! I just got a silver sword! It’s really cute! Very hard to find for me (in TN). I’m curious bc my plant is much smaller. It has several leaves but are about 2” in length and about 8 leaves total. I hope it grows up to look as nice as yours! Anything I need to know? What soil mix do you use for them?
I almost spent $50 on a little 4" pot Silver Sword a couple weeks ago. I'm close to the Canadian border though! Maybe some cheap ones will make it through customs soon. 😂
Lol fingers crossed!!
i have one too but its new leave keep getting stuck!
I’m having so much trouble with my little SS. It’s one of my favorite plants & idk what I’m doing wrong. I don’t have trouble with any other philodendron. I even do well with calathea & ferns. It’s leaves keep going translucent on the edges then yellow & soft. Then the fall off ☹️
Really :( I’m sorry to hear that!
That's a huge sign of overwatering .
I have had mine for a little over a year now, and it puts out new leaves about once a month or so. It's almost two feet tall and clinging to its moss pole but the leaves are still small and not triangular. How can I get it to mature and fill out a bit more?
You could try increasing light. If it's already getting a lot of light I would think add fertilizer. Also keeping the moss pole consistently moist will be really helpful in maturing it. I know that can be tricky. Good luck! x
Hi guys, my silver sword has been slowly dropping its leaves one after another. I’ve had 3 bottom juvenile leaves droop, turn yellow and fall off in one month, and it looks like the next lowest leaf is starting the same cycle. I have my plant in bright indirect light and I haven’t been overwatering it. Is this part of the normal leaf cycle? My plant is looking bare at the bottom 🥲 I’m wondering if I should cut the top part and reroot the plant for a fuller look
Oh dear. Dropping lower leaves can be normal, but since you are losing multiple I would think something is going on. Could it have been underwatered? I would check the roots. Just in case. Root rot can be caused by overwatering or under watering. Also thoroughly check the leaves for any sign of spider mites, often the first sign I notice on my plants is the lower leaves yellowing. Good luck!
@@wildfern Thanks Fern for your helpful reply!
Great info. I got a small silver sword for the first time a few months ago. It’s in organic soil, coco coir, bark and worm castings. It was doing well but now all of a sudden the leaves are melting or becoming transparent one by one. It’s not yellowing. Anyone know what could be going on?
yeah omg i bought one on monday 🥰
Ahh exciting!!
@@wildfern the leaf ends are a bit yellow is that bad? i'm a bit worried but i dont want to fertilize it yet :(
Silver swords that size in my area are almost 500 :( I bought a baby for 27.90 cause my bank account would’ve been very sad but now I’m sad lol
I remember your small interest concerning ,plant people and plants.
A year 1/2 ago.
Just found one chilling in a big box store for 5€
I bought that shit so fast
I am having trouble with my new leaves unfurling
omgosshh
Title of the song at the end?
My silver sword has started killing off a few bottom leaves. It's in an East facing window right up next to it am I potentially giving it too much light?
I think east facing should be fine! Unless there’s multiple dying or it’s no longer growing, it should be okay. Could be inconsistent watering or spider mites (hopefully not that one lol!)
@@wildfern Ok I think it's due to the watering because the soil dries out so fast. I'm going to repot soon, thanks!
